CHAPTER 169: CHAPTER 169: STILL FEELING SORRY FOR HIM?

Caleb Grant paused, turned his head to look at Sheila Yardley, and after a moment of thought, said, "One year."

Without waiting for Sheila Yardley to say anything further, he continued toward the door, leaving behind a sentence: "I’ll wait for you downstairs."

"Where to?"

"The hospital."

Sheila Yardley froze, and after realizing it, hurriedly adjusted her clothes, put on her shoes, and followed him in a rush.

When it came to this man, Sheila Yardley was becoming more and more puzzled, not understanding what he was after. She couldn’t say he was good, but he wasn’t bad either.

Perhaps it wasn’t as bad as she thought, at least he was helping her now.

Sheila Yardley followed Caleb Grant to the hospital. Sheila Yardley wasn’t clear about the specific procedures, as Caleb Grant had people handling everything.

"Go and rest. Take some time to pack your things, and I’ll come over to pick you up later."

"My mom..."

"Don’t worry. The surgery is the doctor’s business. Staying here won’t help, so do as I say and don’t delay my affair."

Sheila Yardley didn’t want to cause Caleb Grant any trouble, so she hesitated and prepared to go back to school to pack.

As she walked out of the elevator, Sheila Yardley remembered Julian Yardley, and took out her phone to call him, only to find her phone was off. She couldn’t remember if she had charged it the night before due to being too busy.

On the way to school, they passed by Ryder Griffin’s studio. As they passed, she couldn’t help but glance in that direction, with some memories as clear as if they happened yesterday.

In a moment of distraction, Sheila Yardley suddenly noticed the motorcycle parked at the studio entrance...

"Sir, please stop by the roadside." Sheila Yardley paid the fare and hurriedly walked towards the studio.

She didn’t dare go in directly but stood outside, peering inside through the glass door.

"Elaine? You’re finally here. You should go in and take a look. Your brother suddenly went crazy and started hitting people in the studio."

Sheila Yardley’s face turned pale, and she quickly pushed the door open and went in. The lobby was in disarray, with scattered chairs, shattered glass, and papers strewn on the floor, along with some bloodstains.

Following the sounds of fighting, Sheila Yardley hurried into the office inside, where she saw Julian Yardley and Ryder Griffin tussling. Julian Yardley was clearly dominating, holding Ryder Griffin by the collar, ready to throw another punch when Sheila Yardley immediately stopped him: "Stop!"

Their eyes simultaneously landed on her. Sheila Yardley ran over to pull Julian Yardley away and took a glance at Ryder Griffin, who had bruises on his face. Ryder Griffin also looked at her.

As their eyes met, Sheila Yardley couldn’t understand what was in Ryder Griffin’s eyes. Perhaps there was guilt, regret, and remorse, yet just thinking of him with Lynn Kendall, her heart couldn’t soften.

"Why are you causing a scene here? Do you want to be locked up before you behave?!" Sheila Yardley was a little shaken, and her tone was a bit harsh.

The incident with Lynn Kendall last time was smoothed over by Caleb Grant, but that didn’t mean they could always be so lucky.

Julian Yardley was also furious, "Causing trouble? I’m helping you vent your anger, damn it!"

Sheila Yardley glanced at Ryder Griffin again. It was clear he hadn’t fought back; that’s why he was injured like this. If they had really fought, it would be an even match, and Julian Yardley wouldn’t be unharmed.

"Don’t tell me you’re still feeling sorry for him now?!" Julian Yardley looked at Sheila Yardley with exasperation.

Indeed, seeing Ryder Griffin injured, she felt bad, but she also had her limits.

From now on, she would no longer judge right or wrong, and in encounters, they would be strangers.

"Let’s go." Sheila Yardley withdrew her gaze, pulled Julian Yardley’s arm, and left without looking back.

On the motorcycle, Julian Yardley asked while driving, "Where did you go? I couldn’t get through to your phone. I thought you were so upset that you were going to do something stupid."

"I’m not that foolish. My phone ran out of battery."

"So, where did you go?"

"... I went back to school." Sheila Yardley didn’t plan on telling anyone about her dealings with Caleb Grant. Though there was nothing shady about it, she knew Julian Yardley’s temperament, fearing he might act rashly and mess things up.

"Oh, right, I just went to the hospital. The doctor said they found a suitable kidney donor."

Julian Yardley stopped the motorcycle by the roadside, thinking perhaps the wind caused him to mishear, so he removed his helmet and turned to look at Sheila Yardley, "What did you just say?"

Sheila Yardley smiled and leaned to his ear to loudly say, "They found a kidney donor!"

Shannon Quinn was waiting in the family area, still worried about Catherine Yardley’s condition. She couldn’t help but seek out Silas Kerr for another discussion.

"Your body was already weak after giving birth. Undergoing surgery poses considerable risks. I understand your feelings, but you should remain rational about some things. It’d be best to discuss this with Young Master Rhodes."

Shannon Quinn merely smiled without responding. What was there to discuss? Once the child was born and the divorce papers signed, they would be people from two different worlds.

"You’re about to give birth, and you haven’t asked anyone to accompany you at the hospital?"

Shannon Quinn retorted self-mockingly, "When even my own husband isn’t here, would anyone else accompany me?"

Silas Kerr paused after hearing this and then smiled, "I don’t know the full story between the two of you, but I can tell he cares about you a lot. When he came to discuss your matters with me, he considered every little detail and frequently inquired about you and the child. If he could be by your side, he would certainly be a good husband."

Shannon Quinn merely smiled without speaking further. There were never so many "ifs." She only saw the life before her eyes.

What she minded most wasn’t whether Vincent Rhodes could accompany her. She understood his difficulties.

If he weren’t the second young master of the Rhodes Family, but an ordinary person, she could bear it alone and wait for him to return to life. But he had such a prestigious identity that it was enough to thrust her and the child’s life into the eye of a storm, into deep water and heat.

Shannon Quinn, supporting her round belly, prepared to stand up as her brow suddenly furrowed, showing some pain: "Dr. Chester, I think I’m going into labor..."

Silas Kerr immediately stood up to support her, instructing her on what to do, while calling his assistant to send Shannon Quinn into the delivery room...

Simon Rhodes, upon receiving the news, urgently rushed to the hospital.

He wasn’t sure whether to feel happy or regretful about the news.

The arrival of the child implied the end of the parents’ marriage, which sounded rather tragic.

These matters hadn’t been discussed with Shane Royale yet. If told, there’s no way the child and Shannon Quinn would be taken away.

If the child were taken too, it would be a severe blow to Shannon Quinn.

Outsides the delivery room, everything was quiet, and the situation inside was unknown. Simon Rhodes patiently waited outside for two to three hours, already feeling nervous. If Vincent were here, he’d undoubtedly be even more flustered.

There was also a desire to see him at a loss, to see his reaction to becoming a father.

Simon Rhodes glanced at the divorce papers in his hand and sighed lightly.
