My Mysterious Hidden Husband
Chapter 179: Don’t Save Money for Me
CHAPTER 179: CHAPTER 179: DON’T SAVE MONEY FOR ME
Upon hearing his uncertain words about whether he could come back again, Shannon Quinn felt as though something tightly grabbed her heart, causing a dull pain.
She couldn’t quite understand this strange feeling. Perhaps it was simply because he was the father of her child, and no matter how their lives turn out, she didn’t want them to be separated by life and death.
"Is the child doing well?"
"Yes."
"Don’t just worry about the child, take care of yourself too."
"Thank you for your concern."
Listening to her overly polite response, Landon Sutton didn’t take it to heart and continued: "I’ve been depositing money into that card every month, but you haven’t touched a single cent. I can’t do much for the child, so you really don’t have to save money on my behalf."
"You think too much. There will be many expenses for the child in the future, I’m just saving it for later use."
Landon Sutton smiled and nodded, saying: "Alright, just let me know if the money isn’t enough. Spending my money makes me feel more balanced."
Before Shannon Quinn could respond, there was some noise at the door, followed by the assistant knocking and opening it a bit to inform: "The boss has arrived."
Immediately, Liam Sterling walked in, accompanied by his personal assistant.
"Mr. Sutton, I’ve heard a lot about you. I apologize for the delay due to some last-minute business."
Landon Sutton quickly composed himself, smiling and saying politely, "It’s my fault for intruding, I should have made an appointment."
"Shannon, how is your discussion going?"
Shannon Quinn responded with a dry smile, "We are chatting right now."
Once Liam Sterling joined, the conversation promptly shifted to work.
Shannon Quinn was slightly absent-minded, not really sure what was troubling her.
"I will communicate the remaining details with Miss Quinn privately."
"Okay, Mr. Sutton, would you like to stay for dinner?"
Landon Sutton glanced at Shannon Quinn, thinking she probably didn’t want to participate in the dinner, so he politely declined: "Thank you for the invitation, Mr. Hughes, but I have plans this evening, maybe another day."
Shannon Quinn accompanied Liam Sterling to see Landon Sutton off to the elevator. Liam exchanged a few simple pleasantries with Landon like two close friends, while Shannon stood silently on the side, not uttering a word until the elevator door closed.
After sending off Landon Sutton, Liam turned to look at Shannon Quinn, observing her with a strange gaze for a few seconds. Feeling uneasy from his stare, Shannon asked, "What’s wrong?"
Liam replied with a smirk, "Doesn’t it seem like... Landon Sutton is interested in you?"
Shannon seemed caught off guard by his remark, her expression freezing for a moment as she replied stiffly, "Why would you say he’s interested in me?"
"I’m not blind, when I talked to Landon Sutton, his gaze was on you eighty percent of the time, and you’re acting weird today too."
Shannon turned her back to Liam while walking ahead, saying, "You’re the weird one, gossiping all day long for a grown man."
Watching her back, Liam closed the gap between them with two steps, smiling softly: "Is it okay to come over for dinner tonight?"
"Can you really do that? A boss visiting an employee’s home just for meals."
"I just miss Leo, besides there is nothing going on tonight, it’s settled then, just prepare a couple of dishes."
Shannon absent-mindedly agreed, her thoughts drifting to Landon Sutton, thinking how he came yet didn’t get to see Leo.
When she thought of him saying he didn’t know if he’d be able to return, her indecision deepened on whether to let him see the child now, considering that the child was still young and wouldn’t remember.
But she hoped even more that he could live well...
The conflicting questions in her heart hadn’t been resolved, and he hadn’t appeared again.
A week later, even the design drafts were sent to him online, the payment arrived as scheduled, and there was no further communication from him.
She didn’t know if his vacation had ended, and he had returned to a not-so-free life.
She hadn’t inquired about any news regarding him, yet would unconsciously pay attention to military news when she came across them.
She felt that his profession was somewhat similar to that of a soldier, being away from home for years, and when she saw similar news, she would instinctively think of him.
"Shannon, how is the preparation for the fashion show going?" Liam messaged on WeChat, asking.
Shannon sat on the sofa with one arm around a sleeping Leo, while holding the phone with the other hand, and replied, "Almost done. I’ll go check the venue tomorrow, everything should be fine."
"Alright, Lockwood will come along tomorrow morning."
This fashion show was hosted rather grandly; at the venue, some works would be auctioned off for charity. Therefore, those invited were not only from the fashion industry, but also from the upper echelons of society and business.
Erin Bishop asked Shannon for an invitation card and flew over the day before the show.
She had been pressured by her family to marry, so she used this trip as an escape.
"Shannon, I suddenly envy you," Erin teased Leo while speaking to Shannon, who was folding clothes beside her.
Shannon asked in puzzlement, "You envy me?"
"Yeah, I feel like I might have developed a man-phobia. I really don’t want to get married; I’m considering doing it like you, find a man, have a child, and then live with the child."
Upon hearing this, Shannon paused what she was doing and turned to ask her, "What’s going on? Isn’t your little wolfdog treating you well?"
"He is fine, but for some reason, I don’t feel the urge to want to live with him for a lifetime. The notion of marriage horrifies me."
Shannon carefully asked her, "Could it be because you haven’t moved on from Zane Rhodes?"
Erin instantly faltered, lowering her eyes for a moment and said, "I must just not want to marry; thinking after marriage, it becomes a matter of two families..."
"I think you’ve just gotten used to living independently and can’t settle down quickly."
"Oh, let’s not talk about me. Do you remember June Yardley, the one you mentioned to me?"
"Really? What happened?"
"She got engaged to Sean Fairchild. I tagged along with a friend and attended their engagement party. You know Sean Fairchild is quite handsome, but having June Yardley beside him is quite a mismatch. I wonder what Sean sees in her—a wonderful lad, but what poor taste in choosing June."
"Speaking of which, the Fairchilds and the Rhodes Family are relatives; Vincent’s mother is from the Fairchild Family."
"What kind of game is June Yardley playing? The Rhodes Family broke down the Yardley Family, so the Fairchild Family shouldn’t be helping the Yardleys, how did they end up in-laws? I don’t believe they share true love."
"Who knows? June Yardley is very calculating. I’ve seen it firsthand."
