My Mysterious Hidden Husband
Chapter 185: He Wants to See the Child
CHAPTER 185: CHAPTER 185: HE WANTS TO SEE THE CHILD
Originally, there was a certain distance between the two of them, but with Caleb Grant’s pull, her back was almost against his chest. Through the thin shirt, she could sense the warmth emanating from him, and Sheila Yardley’s face turned red in an instant. Fortunately, the dim lighting in the venue meant no one noticed.
Because of his words "Stand still," Sheila Yardley stiffly controlled even her breathing carefully.
After a while, she finally moved two small steps forward, slightly increasing the distance.
Little did she know, while her gaze was fixed on the stage, the man’s eyes behind her often fell on her profile.
There wasn’t much exchange, yet neither could ignore the other’s presence.
When the models were changing clothes at intermission, Sheila Yardley took the excuse of helping to escape.
Shannon Quinn deliberately walked over to Sheila Yardley and quietly asked her, "Have you been in contact with Caleb Grant often?"
Sheila Yardley kept her head down, feeling guilty and not daring to look up at Shannon Quinn, wanting to explain but unsure what to say.
"Elaine, be honest with me, has he been bothering you?"
"No, Shannon, he just happened to be invited today."
"Be cautious, I’m afraid you’ll be deceived."
"Mm, thank you, Shannon."
"How’s your mom doing lately?"
...
The final auction segment was considered the climax of the evening, with collectors from home and abroad, as well as high-society ladies, enthusiastically bidding.
Shannon Quinn sat in the audience, listening to the conversation of a foreign team behind her.
"Last time, LW’s operatic series works really stunned me, but I don’t know who that mysterious designer is."
"Isn’t the circle saying it’s Ms. Kendall’s work?"
"Ms. Kendall? Chloe?"
Chloe is the name Lynn Kendall uses for her works, more commonly known by the public.
"Yes, but it’s just hearsay; LW hasn’t officially announced any precise information."
Another person said in a puzzled voice, "But I think that series doesn’t resemble Chloe’s style; whether it’s her previous or subsequent works, you can’t find that feeling in them. Maybe this isn’t a real message."
"But it’s clearly a good thing, so why would that designer want to hide their name? I also really like her work; it’s truly eye-opening."
"It should be Chloe’s work; she admitted it herself, just there’s no public announcement. She said being anonymous was to make people focus more on her work rather than her fame."
Sitting beside Shannon Quinn, Aidan Lockwood also heard the conversation. He turned and quietly asked her, "Does this matter to you?"
Shannon Quinn turned to glance at him, smiled lightly, and shook her head. "Having my work liked by so many people is a form of acknowledgment for me."
"But if your achievements are impersonated by others, I would be unwilling too."
Shannon Quinn just smiled without speaking, but at this moment, Vincent Rhodes suddenly appeared in her mind.
She remembered that he was also present on the day of the LW competition.
The reason her works couldn’t bear her name had a lot to do with him.
Initially, she held a grudge against him, feeling he brought almost no good things to her, but later she realized he had his difficulties too.
He probably pursued a peaceful life just like her, yet reality often contradicted desires.
"This is my fault; I should have stopped it long ago. Don’t worry, I’ll handle it."
Shannon Quinn recovered from her thoughts and said, "She seems to have work tonight as well, right?"
"Yes, it’s the one that didn’t pass at LW before; she made some adjustments. Honestly, there’s a lot of your imprint in it. She’s made her name in her circle based on the previous operatic series works, so many people are here for her work tonight."
"Then... what are you planning to do?"
"Let’s not do anything tonight, just proceed as usual; I’ll resolve it afterwards."
Seeing that Aidan Lockwood seemed to have figured out a solution, Shannon Quinn didn’t ask further.
As expected, while Lynn Kendall’s work wasn’t the centerpiece, when displayed, the audience’s reaction was noticeably more enthusiastic than before, bubbling with discussion.
The bidding price also set a new high in the venue, far surpassing the other works before.
As the gavel fell and the deal was made, Shannon Quinn received a message from Lynn Kendall: Thank you for achieving such a price.
The tone was filled with evident pride and provocativeness, but Shannon Quinn didn’t pay it any mind, quietly setting down her phone and keeping her eyes on the stage.
After all, the event was hosted by their company, and as the company’s top designer, her work was reserved for the final highlight.
A modern gown with traditional elements, elegant yet luxurious. The women present were almost glowing with admiration.
The price bid was slightly higher than Lynn Kendall’s work, giving Shannon Quinn a sense of vindication.
With the event concluding flawlessly, Aidan Lockwood and Liam Sterling arranged a gathering for everyone present, but Shannon Quinn politely declined because she had kids at home.
While heading to the parking lot, she ran into Simon Rhodes. It was said to be a chance encounter, but it seemed more like Simon Rhodes had followed her.
"Mr. Rhodes, is there something you need?"
Simon Rhodes said, "Actually, I’m here mainly on Vincent’s behalf; there’s something he wishes to ask you."
Shannon Quinn was puzzled and asked, "What is it?"
"Vincent would like to see the child, even just a picture."
Shannon Quinn paused, taking a deep breath. In that moment, there was a vague pang in her heart, and she hesitated before nodding. "I’ll send it to him after I get home."
Apparently, Simon Rhodes wasn’t expecting her agreement, as he visibly relaxed and continued, "Just send it straight to me. Vincent has returned to the training camp and won’t have phone access for a long time due to missions. I’ll print it out and deliver it to him."
Shannon Quinn pursed her lips, seemingly wanting to ask something but ultimately unable to. She simply replied with one word, "Okay."
"The gentleman sitting next to you tonight, is he..."
Anticipating Simon Rhodes’ question, Shannon Quinn interrupted him, answering, "He’s my boss."
"Oh, I mean no harm. Vincent also hopes you meet a good man to take care of you and the child."
"Thank him for me," Shannon Quinn said politely, opening the car door and getting inside. After a brief farewell with Simon Rhodes, she drove off.
Coincidentally, Susan Wilde happened to witness this scene upon arriving at the parking lot, prompting her curiosity about the relationship between Simon Rhodes and Shannon Quinn.
Her boyfriend had left early due to other commitments, but upon seeing Simon Rhodes turning towards her, she instinctively wanted to hide.
Unfortunately, her feet couldn’t outrun his gaze, and with only a few people in the parking lot, she was easily spotted just exiting the elevator.
"Heading home as well?" Simon Rhodes openly approached to greet.
