My Mysterious Hidden Husband
Chapter 206: Why Don’t You Die?
CHAPTER 206: CHAPTER 206: WHY DON’T YOU DIE?
Sheila Yardley woke up in the hospital, the smell of disinfectant was very familiar to her.
The glaring lights in front of her seemed to be her last memory before fainting.
She moved her body slightly, the soreness and pain made her frown.
Upon hearing movement at the door, she closed her eyes again, wishing she wouldn’t wake up anymore.
Caleb Grant finished his call and walked in, both his actions of opening and closing the door were very gentle.
Standing by the bed and looking at Sheila Yardley’s pale face, he sighed, wondering what she would be like when she woke up again.
Caleb approached her, looked at the hand with the infusion tube, and reached over to try and tuck her hand into the blanket.
However, as soon as his hand landed on her wrist, he felt a slight force avoiding him. He paused, looked up at her closed eyes, released her hand, lifted the corner of the blanket to cover her hand underneath, and then softly said, "Awake?"
Her eyes trembled, she took a deep breath and kept her eyes shut, as if she didn’t want to see him, nor did she want to say a word to him.
Caleb stood by the bed for two seconds, then turned around and went out to call the doctor.
After a brief examination, the doctor said: "Nothing serious, once the infusion is finished, you can go home."
After the doctor left, Caleb sat down on the chair next to the bed, neither of them spoke until Sheila Yardley’s phone rang.
She acted as if she didn’t hear the ringing, still lying motionless.
Caleb got up, took out the phone from her bag, glanced at the caller, and handed it to her at the bedside: "Your brother."
Only then did she slowly open her eyes, reached out to take the phone, never looking at him once.
"Hello..." she began, her voice hoarse, almost merely mouthing the words.
The room was so quiet that Caleb could faintly hear Julian Yardley’s voice from the other end: "What’s up? Acting as if you are dying."
Sheila Yardley simply replied: "Sleeping."
Caleb knew, given her nature, she would definitely not tell her family about these things.
"I’m going to mom’s the day after tomorrow, do you want to come with me?"
"...No, I’ve got work."
"Alright then, just letting you know, take care of yourself. I’ll be back in two days and bring you something good."
"Okay."
Julian Yardley didn’t notice anything unusual and hung up the phone.
Sheila Yardley put away the phone, her eyes began to moisten, with her back turned to Caleb, unsure how to live the days ahead.
Caleb took a call midway and left the hospital early, but still had people watching her closely.
Sheila Yardley didn’t think about escaping, she knew if he didn’t voluntarily let go, no matter where she ran, he would find her. She also feared implicating her family.
After returning, she locked herself in her room, and Caleb returned not long after.
Both Sheila Yardley’s and work matters were somewhat wearing him down.
After returning, he took a shower and immediately went to the kitchen to prepare lunch.
She hadn’t eaten a thing from last night until now.
He brought the meal into her room, placed it on the table by the window, and looking at her lying in bed, not asleep, he said: "Get up and eat."
She stayed wrapped in her blanket, motionless.
"Did you hear me?" Caleb sounded like a strict parent dealing with a stubborn child unwilling to eat.
After a few seconds, Sheila Yardley propped herself up and sat up in bed, looking at him and asked: "When can I leave?"
Caleb looked down silently, didn’t answer, leaving behind a "Eat first" as he exited her room.
Just as the door closed, the sound of a plate smashing on the ground was heard within the room.
Caleb’s face remained composed as he sighed almost inaudibly and walked away.
A while later, he returned to clean up the scattered items and broken utensils, saying while leaving the room to the lying Sheila Yardley: "I’ve already arranged sick leave for work, just stay home and reflect for these two days, think it through before going out, I don’t have time to argue with you daily."
The next day, he had someone guard the door, limiting her movement to the mansion, while she stayed locked in her room.
Caleb continued delivering meals to her room three times a day, didn’t force her when she didn’t eat, merely changed the dishes every meal.
Two days passed, she stayed locked in a stalemate with him.
Caleb called a doctor to give her nutrient injections, but she refused to cooperate, pulling the IV tubes out repeatedly.
The doctor, faced with difficulty, said to Caleb: "Mr. Grant, I really have no way if the patient doesn’t cooperate. I think you should have a good talk with her, maybe... A psychologist might be more suitable for Miss Yardley."
"Thank you, please leave."
After the doctor left, Caleb closed the room door, walked to the bedside, looked down at the disheveled Sheila Yardley, and coldly asked: "Are you hoping to die?"
Sheila Yardley smiled bleakly, looked at him and said: "Why don’t you die?"
Caleb took a deep breath, turned and sat on the sofa beside the bed, lit a cigarette, took a puff, and said lightly: "Your mom’s illness just improved, she hasn’t enjoyed a few good days yet; your brother has been busy with a project recently, the investor is a friend of mine, if they suddenly pull out, our losses are insignificant, but for your brother..."
Sheila Yardley maintained her smile: "Mr. Grant, besides threats and force, do you know anything else?"
Caleb sneered: "I have plenty of ways to deal with you, don’t challenge my patience. Since you don’t want to die, follow my instructions, it won’t be as miserable as now."
"Follow your instructions? Lay obediently and accept your humiliation?"
"Don’t test my limits while I still have some patience. You choose whether to live or die, your death is merely a replacement of a toy for me, but for your family, it might be a lifetime’s pain. Think it over."
Caleb stood up, tossed the cigarette butt into the small trash bin by the bed, and turned to leave the room.
She didn’t want to die, but neither did she want to live under his shadow.
If she had a knife, she would stab it into his chest, not her own.
On the fourth day, Sheila Yardley was once again admitted to the hospital, in emergency.
Thankfully, she was saved in time.
Caleb devised a plan and had someone bring Catherine Yardley over.
During Sheila Yardley’s hospitalization, Catherine was always at the hospital with her.
She naturally didn’t dare reveal the truth to Catherine, and Caleb didn’t face her directly, telling Catherine that Sheila fainted at work and was brought to the hospital by colleagues.
After staying two days in the hospital, Sheila was discharged, not wanting Catherine to worry, she asked Catherine to return to Shannon Quinn’s place that night.
Sheila Yardley then returned to that hellish place once more.
