CHAPTER 21: CHAPTER 21: MY HUSBAND BOUGHT IT FOR ME

The light shining in from outside could barely illuminate the contours of the furniture inside, and it allowed them to see each other.

"Is there... something wrong?" Shannon Quinn spoke first, asking him.

Her subconscious knew he wouldn’t hurt her, but her inner fear was uncontrollable, making her voice tremble a bit.

The man stopped at a distance of one meter away, seemingly looking around.

"Do you wish not to see me?" After some time, a raspy voice responded to her.

Shannon Quinn couldn’t express her complex emotions; she felt fear, guilt, and sympathy towards Vincent Rhodes. "...That’s not what I meant, I... I’m just confused..."

"You’ll understand later. For now, you just need to remember your identity. I’m not dead yet, and I don’t want my wife to be ambiguously involved with another man."

Shannon Quinn’s spine chilled, her hair standing on end. She even wondered if there were a pair of eyes watching her every move from a place she couldn’t see, surveilling her constantly.

She didn’t know if Vincent Rhodes was aware of her and Landon Sutton’s situation; she dared not say anything.

After a while, she saw Vincent Rhodes take something out from his clothes and place it on the coffee table, saying, "White Audi, parked at the far right in parking lot number one. Don’t let me find you returning in another man’s car again."

Shannon Quinn’s eyes widened; before she could respond, the man wheeled himself away, disappearing into the dark.

Soon after, the room returned to being bright, and the TV continued broadcasting the previous program.

She looked at the car key on the coffee table, her thoughts a bit jumbled.

Could Vincent Rhodes be hinting at her ambiguous relationship with Aidan Lockwood rather than Landon Sutton?

But she’s ridden in Aidan Lockwood’s car more than once or twice; why is Vincent Rhodes only now warning her?

Not bothering with too much confusion, she was clear in her mind that she should keep distance from all men, whether it’s a teacher-student relationship or a friendship.

She picked up the car key and examined it, suddenly feeling a bit happy.

She had gotten her driver’s license in college, but due to financial reasons, she hadn’t bought a car. Eventually, she’d gotten used to taking taxis or public transport and had completely forgotten about buying a car.

Besides, she quite liked this Audi model; if it were up to her, she wouldn’t have bought it.

She eagerly went to her room to change into new clothes, grabbing the house keys and car keys before heading downstairs.

Arriving at the parking lot, she didn’t go directly to lot number one; instead, she cautiously observed her surroundings, noticing that Vincent Rhodes seemed to have left.

The lights in the parking lot were bright, eliminating any eerie fright.

Just like Vincent Rhodes had mentioned, she immediately spotted the white Audi and pressed the car key, making the car lights flash twice.

Shannon Quinn ran over joyfully, carefully opening the car door. Standing by it, she felt like a child seeing delicious food, unable to hide her delight.

The interior was pristine, and she couldn’t bear to set foot inside; she just reached out to touch the seat, suddenly feeling that Vincent Rhodes wasn’t as bad as the rumors made him out to be, perhaps even... considerate?

She was absorbed in her observation, not noticing the approaching footsteps behind her.

"Stealing a car?"

The man’s voice made Shannon Quinn snap back to reality, turning to see Landon Sutton standing behind her. Her momentary gleefulness instantly turned into caution: "Why are you here?!"

"I should ask you the same."

Shannon Quinn’s first instinct was that he was stalking her, "Playing dumb!"

"Bought a car?" Landon Sutton glanced at the white Audi behind her.

Shannon Quinn hesitated for a second before straightening her back proudly, "My husband bought it for me."

Landon Sutton snorted, seemingly mocking something. Shannon Quinn frowned, glared at him, locked the car door, and walked straight toward the elevator, hearing Landon Sutton’s footsteps following behind.

She stopped near the elevator, ready to question why Landon Sutton was following her, only to see him not even glance at her. With long strides, he passed by her, pressed the elevator button, and entered, only then looking up at her: "Coming?"

Shannon Quinn frowned, standing still, not understanding what his intentions were.

He seemed to ask just symbolically, then directly closed the elevator door.

Shannon Quinn entered the adjacent elevator, lost in thought, and to be safe, she dialed 110 on her phone, ready to call the police if Landon Sutton tried anything.

"Ding dong," the elevator reached the floor, its door slowly opening. Shannon Quinn poked her head out cautiously to check, just as Landon Sutton walked past her, creating a slight breeze as an unknown men’s cologne wafted by.

Watching Landon Sutton walk away without a glance, Shannon Quinn stared at his back in confusion, worried he might be waiting to ambush her at her door.

Following behind, she realized he stood at her neighbor’s door, lowering his head to input the password on the lock, then opened the door and entered.

Shannon Quinn felt momentarily chaotic, internally shocked—he’s living next door to her?!
