CHAPTER 24: CHAPTER 24: I’M THE WOMAN YOU’LL NEVER HAVE

Shannon Quinn looked at Landon Sutton with a face full of confusion about why he was also here.

She couldn’t understand how someone as upright as Simon Rhodes could be so close with Landon Sutton.

"Shannon, come on, let’s go sit down inside."

Shannon Quinn deliberately lagged behind, walking slower. Simon Rhodes turned back and said, "Oh right, during the last ancestor worship, Shannon and Mr. Sutton met, right?"

"Mm." Shannon Quinn replied quietly.

Simon Rhodes said, "Then could you keep Mr. Sutton company for a bit? Guests are arriving continuously, and I’m afraid I can’t handle them all."

Shannon Quinn said nothing, mumbling to herself in her mind.

She wasn’t really thinking about Landon Sutton; she came here for Vincent Rhodes, but it seemed like Vincent might not attend.

She didn’t understand why Vincent hid himself. Sitting in a wheelchair with a mask wouldn’t really affect anything; people wouldn’t see his face anyway, so why did he make himself a living ghost?

She used to think he didn’t dare to appear because he feared she’d divorce him upon seeing him, but as his wife, he’d already exposed himself to her. No matter how many flaws he had, others couldn’t really do anything to him, could they?

The more she thought about it, the more puzzled she became. Knowing Vincent wasn’t going to come, she couldn’t muster any excitement.

"Shannon, could you get some tea for your Mr. Sutton? Mr. Miller has just arrived outside, and I need to go have a look."

"Oh." Shannon Quinn responded perfunctorily but didn’t get up.

Picking at her nails on the sofa, she raised her eyes to glance at Landon Sutton across and asked him, "Are you thirsty?"

Most people would modestly say they’re not thirsty, but Landon Sutton directly said, "A little."

Shannon Quinn rolled her eyes and retorted, "If you’re thirsty, get your own water!"

"It’s fine. When your brother comes over, I’ll have him send someone with water."

Shannon Quinn increasingly felt this man had ulterior motives; he seemed kind and understanding on the surface, but he was essentially using her brother to pressure her.

Reluctantly, she stood up, brewed a pot of tea, and placed it in front of him with a bad attitude. She didn’t sit back in her previous seat but turned to leave.

Landon Sutton, however, called after her and asked, "It’s Old Mr. Rhodes’ birthday today. Your husband, as the second young master of the Rhodes Family, isn’t attending?"

Only then did Shannon Quinn realize they were here for her grandfather’s birthday. She was also curious about Landon Sutton’s question.

"It’s none of your business! You’re just meddling!"

Landon Sutton continued, "They say the second young master of the Rhodes Family is a monster and no one has ever seen him. As his wife, have you never seen him either?"

Listening to him, Shannon Quinn felt a bit guilty but still put on a haughty façade, smiling as she said, "What nonsense are you talking about? My husband and I are very close. He’s not some monster; he’s much more handsome than you!"

Hearing her defend him like that, Landon Sutton felt quite pleased inside.

Yet he still deliberately needled her: "There’s no smoke without fire; rumors can’t be entirely made up. Stop deceiving yourself."

"Don’t be so self-righteous! You’re just jealous my husband married such a beautiful wife like me, right? Let me tell you, I’m a woman you’ll never have in this lifetime. My husband and I are very much in love."

Landon Sutton couldn’t help but laugh. Shannon Quinn felt he was mocking her, got somewhat annoyed, but still confidently said, "How others talk is their business; I can’t control other people’s mouths. I know very well how my husband is! Stop trying to sow discord here!"

"I’m just casually saying; don’t get angry."

"It’s not worth it with you!"

"Landon Sutton!" A familiar voice called a familiar name. Shannon Quinn turned to see Claire Yardley walking over and smirked at Landon Sutton as if enjoying the drama. "Mr. Sutton, you’d better focus on your own affairs, and stop worrying about others."

Shannon Quinn tried to leave after speaking, but Claire Yardley pointed at her and shouted, "Stop right there! It’s you again! What exactly is the relationship between you two?!"

Landon Sutton stood up, naturally blocking in front of Shannon Quinn, and looked at Claire Yardley, saying, "Wasn’t the introduction clear last time?"

"Don’t lie to me; she’s not your girlfriend! She’s Vincent Rhodes’ wife; even my sister told me!"

Before Landon Sutton could rebut, Shannon Quinn popped up saying, "Yes, yes, yes, I have nothing to do with him; you handle your own business."

"How can a married woman be so shameless?! Just because your husband’s a loser, you have to cozy up to someone else’s man? So cheap!" Claire Yardley wasn’t one to hold back when cursing, able to say anything.

Shannon Quinn, who was never the type to suffer in silence, got upset hearing that, changed her mind about leaving, and looked at Claire Yardley, saying, "Miss Yardley’s mouth seems wasted not swearing in the street."

"I’m cursing you! How about it? You seduce my man, and I curse you!"

Seeing Claire Yardley’s shrewish manner, Shannon Quinn smiled unhurriedly and looked at Claire Yardley, saying, "Miss Yardley, do you know this is the Rhodes Family? You recklessly insult the Rhodes Family’s second young master as a loser and viciously slander the second young madam. Your sister hasn’t even married into the Rhodes Family yet, and this Yardley Family dog is already running wild."

"Who are you calling a dog?!" Claire Yardley raised her hand and shoved Shannon Quinn. Landon Sutton frowned and reached out to help, but saw Shannon Quinn slap Claire Yardley directly across the face.

"How dare you!" Shannon Quinn raised her voice, drawing the attention of onlookers, "Where did this shrew come from?! Who’s she roughhousing with?!"

Claire Yardley was completely stunned, never having endured such humiliation. She waved her hand to pounce on Shannon Quinn, but Landon Sutton grabbed her arm, stopping her from hurting Shannon Quinn.

Seeing Claire Yardley struggling and cursing nastily, the bystanders all pointed fingers at Claire Yardley.

The security was alerted and rushed over. Shannon Quinn said directly, "What are you standing there for? Take her out! Any random cat or dog gets in here!"

If no one wronged her, she wouldn’t wrong others. But if someone bullies her, she’ll give them a good fall.

As the security dragged Claire Yardley away, June Yardley came quickly in high heels, hurriedly rescuing her sister with a fierce glare at Shannon Quinn. She turned to ask Claire Yardley, "What happened?"

Claire Yardley covered her face, sobbing, "Sis, she hit me!"

June Yardley comforted Claire with a couple of words and walked up to Shannon Quinn, glanced at Landon Sutton nearby, and looked at Shannon Quinn, saying, "Shannon, this was your fault. Claire didn’t understand; if she did something wrong, you could’ve talked to her properly. Why hit her?"

Shannon Quinn smiled, saying, "So that’s Miss Yardley’s sister, my apologies, I didn’t know. I thought it was a lunatic that got in somehow; the things she said aren’t what a lady of a well-brought-up family would say."

"But you shouldn’t have hit her."

"With no one at home to teach her how to behave, someone has to. If you can’t be a proper person, don’t come out and scare others. Since she’s Miss Yardley’s sister, let’s just drop it." Shannon Quinn walked over and waved to the security, "Misunderstanding, misunderstanding, all good now. Everyone disperse."
