CHAPTER 262: CHAPTER 262: I WILL DEFINITELY KILL YOU

The phone rang a few times without an answer. Susan Wilde guessed he was busy with a morning meeting or something, and just as she was about to hang up, a deep male voice sounded from the other end: "Hello."

Susan immediately responded, saying, "Hello, is this Mr. Rhodes?"

Simon Rhodes hadn’t saved her number, so when he saw an unfamiliar call, he didn’t know who it was. But upon hearing her voice, he recognized it: "Skylar?"

Hearing Simon Rhodes address her like that, Susan stiffened. However, she reminded herself that she was married to Shawn Rhodes, making Simon her elder, so it was normal for an elder to address the younger generation this way.

Without dwelling on it further, Susan got straight to the point and said, "I heard from the staff at the store that you came by last night and mentioned an interest in a business proposal?"

"Yes, I sent my assistant over. Can your company handle it?"

"Could you please tell me what the specific event is about?"

Simon paused for a while before saying, "I have to go to a meeting now, and I’m occupied in the afternoon as well. How about we discuss it in detail over lunch?"

Susan figured that a busy man like him would probably only have time during meals, so she nodded and said, "Alright, I’ll reserve a restaurant and send you the location."

"I’ll handle the reservation. Let’s meet first and discuss later."

Before Susan could say anything else, he hung up the phone.

Susan found it odd; it was unusual for a client to reserve a restaurant.

However, thinking about it, perhaps he was being courteous since she was now considered half a part of the Rhodes family.

About two hours later, he sent her the restaurant address, probably after his meeting.

After finishing her tasks, Susan noticed it was almost time and handed over the remaining work to the staff at the store.

When she arrived at the restaurant, it wasn’t yet the scheduled time, and Simon hadn’t arrived.

Waiting for clients was common, and Susan was used to it.

As the appointed time neared, she saw a black Maybach pull up in front of the restaurant through the window.

Soon after, Simon walked in, dressed in the dark-toned suit as she remembered, giving off an aura of rigor and stability.

"Sorry to keep you waiting."

Susan smiled and said, "I arrived early."

She wasn’t quite sure how to address him, whether as an elder or a client.

"Have you ordered yet?" he asked.

"Not yet."

He took the menu from the waiter’s hand and handed it to Susan, saying, "I don’t know what you like to eat, so I conservatively chose this Chinese restaurant."

Susan responded politely with a smile, "I can eat anything."

Simon watched her browse the menu with a momentary daze.

As she pointed at the menu and smiled while ordering from the waiter, he suddenly noticed bruises on her arm.

"Just got married. How are you adjusting?" Simon asked.

Susan gave him a surprised look, finished her order with the waiter, and then dryly smiled as she answered Simon’s question, "It’s fine. Why don’t you choose what you’d like to eat?"

Simon casually picked two signature dishes from the restaurant and then, as if unintentionally, asked again, "Do you remember we’ve met before?"

Susan chuckled, "I remember. I was in a rush that day and might have spoken a bit harshly. Don’t take it to heart."

"It was my oversight. I’m glad you didn’t mind. It’s just such a coincidence that we ended up as family in this way."

Susan awkwardly laughed, unwilling to delve into personal life matters, and steered the conversation back on track, "Tell me more about the event you mentioned so I can make a decision."

In the elegantly decorated restaurant, the glass windows separated the noise from the street, yet through the window, one could see the two sitting opposite each other dining.

Engaged in conversation and laughter, anyone unaware would likely imagine them as an enviable couple.

The planning matter was settled, and Susan found Simon’s modesty something she had known about before, making today’s conversation rather pleasant.

He didn’t make any specific requests, simply encouraging her to proceed freely.

After the lunch, Susan took a cab to the hospital.

She wanted to check on her foot, which might have been injured since it hurt a bit when walking.

She registered by herself and after getting an X-ray, sat in the waiting area to await results.

Unexpectedly, she bumped into Shawn Rhodes coming out of the examination room, accompanied by a woman.

The woman had a somewhat cute appearance with slightly tousled chestnut hair and was wearing a hospital gown.

Seeing Shawn assist her out of the examination room, it seemed the woman had also injured her leg.

When Shawn came out, his gaze unintentionally met Susan’s, and they both pretended not to recognize each other.

The woman walked with some difficulty, frowning from the pain, and playfully whined, saying she couldn’t walk any further. Shawn diverted his gaze from Susan and gently coaxed the woman, "The doctor said you need to start moving a bit more. Just take a few more steps."

"I don’t want to walk. It hurts."

Shawn couldn’t do anything about it. He bent down and picked her up.

Susan couldn’t quite describe how she felt, withdrawing her gaze and silently rubbing her painfully throbbing knee.

Fortunately, when the results came out, the doctor said she hadn’t injured her bones but prescribed some medicine for bruises and told her to apply ice at home.

On her way down, she ran into Shawn again, who had just come back from paying the fees.

Pretending not to know him, Susan was about to step into the elevator when Shawn grabbed her arm and pulled her to the side of the hallway, asking, "What are you doing here?"

"What else would someone do at a hospital?"

Instead of asking if she was unwell, Shawn warned her, "If you dare lay a finger on Laura, I will end you."

"Do you have a persecution complex?"

Shawn let out a cold snort, "Laura had an accident right after leaving the wedding. Don’t let me find out you had anything to do with it."

"No one can predict accidents. Your baseless suspicion is truly tiresome."

"Stop damn back-talking me! Get lost!" he cursed before turning to leave first himself.

Susan hadn’t expected to be blamed for so much without reason.

She initially thought they could discuss strategies to deal with outsiders and coexist peacefully, but now it seemed Shawn wasn’t someone easy to talk to.

With her foot painfully bothering her, Susan left the hospital and went home.

It was only after returning home that she understood why Shawn suddenly came back last night.

A maid had come, claiming to take care of them, but she was likely sent by Shawn’s parents to monitor them.

It was probably the well-intentioned concern of the elders, thinking of Susan’s wellbeing, but it wasn’t what Susan wanted. She didn’t wish to be around Shawn every day.
