My Mysterious Hidden Husband
Chapter 266: The Place You Once Lived
CHAPTER 266: CHAPTER 266: THE PLACE YOU ONCE LIVED
Shannon Quinn naturally didn’t want to part with him either, but she mumbled, "What’s our relationship now? Is living together considered illegal cohabitation?"
Landon Sutton caught on, "Did you bring all the documents? We can complete the remarriage procedures tomorrow?"
"No way."
"Huh?"
"Last time I married you so easily, this time if there’s no proposal or grand wedding, I’m not marrying!"
Landon Sutton laughed, "Alright, I’ll make arrangements."
"You don’t have any initiative at all, I have to remind you."
Landon Sutton deliberately said, "It’s my first time pursuing a girl, so inevitably I’m a bit clumsy, but I’ll get the hang of it in the future."
"In the future, who are you planning to pursue with that experience?!"
The car returned to the Rhodes Family’s home, and this time, unlike last time, Old Master Rhodes wasn’t frowning. As soon as their car reached the gate, they saw the old master eagerly waiting by the door.
"Great-Grandpa!" As soon as Leo got out of the car, he sweetly called out.
The old master beamed with joy, looking much kinder and gentler.
Shannon Quinn thought that no matter how strict the elderly seemed on the outside, deep down, they always hoped for their children and grandchildren to come home and visit them, bringing some liveliness.
Though the old master was still in good spirits, he had aged quite a bit compared to a few years ago.
The Rhodes Family’s ancestor worship was always grand, and even those abroad had to come back; some had already arrived today, making the house quite lively.
Not everyone was scheming; some were studying abroad in fields completely unrelated to business, so they naturally didn’t have any intentions towards the Rhodes Family.
The children still in school probably hadn’t seen each other for a long time and were sitting together chatting, happily teasing Leo as well.
Leo was sweet-tongued and clever, making him very likable.
After her relationship with Landon Sutton changed, her feelings towards the Rhodes Family seemed to change too, and returning here felt more like coming home.
That night, the family of three slept in the same bed for the first time, with Leo lying across the two.
Once asleep, Landon Sutton tossed their son aside and lay next to Shannon Quinn.
Shannon Quinn, who hadn’t rested well after the day’s flight, was too exhausted to speak.
She didn’t say anything when she sensed him drawing closer, she just closed her eyes and continued sleeping.
Landon Sutton, however, seemed energetic; initially, he held her properly but soon started getting handsy.
Shannon Quinn was too tired to deal with him, so she pushed him away: "Stop it, go to sleep."
"You go to sleep."
"The kid’s here!"
"It’s fine, we’ll just be quiet."
This was the first time Shannon Quinn found Landon Sutton so tactless, completely ruled by desire.
The next morning, when she woke up, it was already bright outside, indicating it was late.
She reached out to the side and found she was the only one on the big bed.
Recalling the Rhodes Family’s rule of getting up at six, she quickly sat up and felt sore and powerless all over.
Once she got ready, she hurriedly washed and changed. When she went downstairs, she saw the living room was empty; no one was there.
Glancing at the clock on the wall, it was almost eight. Where had everyone gone?
In the backyard, she saw Landon Sutton playing with Leo on the grass, surrounded by a group enjoying themselves.
Some were little, two or three years old, while others were older, seventeen or eighteen, like a scene you would see at school.
Landon Sutton saw that Shannon Quinn was awake, leaned down, and said something to Leo, who was among siblings, then he got up and walked towards her.
"Awake? You’re the only one in the family who can sleep this much."
"Where’s Grandpa?"
"He’s at the ancestral hall preparing for tomorrow’s ancestor worship ceremony. Come have breakfast; we left you some."
Shannon Quinn followed him into the kitchen, watching him take out a plate of breakfast from the microwave.
Thinking of last night’s events, she couldn’t help but mutter, "Let’s sleep in separate rooms tonight."
Landon Sutton agreed gladly, "Okay, I think our son is a bit of a bother too."
Shannon Quinn corrected him, "You sleep alone! I’ll sleep with Leo."
Landon Sutton feigned ignorance, "Why?"
"Why did you mess around last night?!"
"I just missed you too much."
"Hmm, only thinking about yourself, not others. I told you I was tired!"
"That’s why I specially had Grandpa let you sleep in this morning."
Shannon Quinn couldn’t be bothered to talk to him anymore and snatched the plate from his hand, going to the dining table and burying her head in eating.
Landon Sutton sat across from her, watching as he said, "Since there’s not much going on this afternoon, shall we go look at houses?"
Shannon Quinn paused, looked up at him, and asked, "Is the old house... still there?"
"It is, the house is under your name, and who would dare sell it if you haven’t?"
"Why not live there then?"
"With a child, the previous place feels a bit small and the floor is high, inconvenient for a child to play. Besides, we might have another child soon, and the place won’t fit us all."
Shannon Quinn gave him a side-eye and said after a moment, "I want to go back and see it."
"After you eat, I’ll take you."
Although Landon Sutton transferred the house to her name back then, she never returned after leaving the city.
She thought the place might be dust-covered and uninhabited, but when she opened the door, it felt like she returned to years ago, like when she would come home after work.
The place certainly had someone cleaning it, it was immediately livable, there was a faint scent of flowers in the air, and everything was set up just as it had been when she left.
It felt like stepping back in time by a few years.
Shannon Quinn walked in and sat on the sofa, looking around at the familiar yet slightly unfamiliar environment, she looked up and asked him, "Have you been coming back here all this time?"
Landon Sutton said, "Before I retired from the army, I used to come and stay here during every leave."
As Shannon Quinn listened, she inexplicably felt a bit sad and asked him, "Wasn’t it painful?"
"How could it not be painful? But being here made me feel a bit closer to you, after all, it was where you lived."
Listening, Shannon Quinn felt warm in her heart but couldn’t quite bring herself to smile.
Because she could imagine how tough it must have been for him back then.
"I suddenly regret not being by your side all these years," she said.
Landon Sutton chuckled, "Isn’t that what I should say?"
Shannon Quinn lowered her head and smiled, but her eyes were moist and red; however, at that time, it seemed like they had no other choice.
They could only be grateful they could be together now.
The years of being apart were hard not just for her, but for him too.
"Alright then," Shannon Quinn stood up and said, "I’ll bring my mom over, let her stay here."
Landon Sutton smiled and nodded, "Whatever you decide."
Shannon Quinn didn’t want to be in a long-distance relationship anymore; life’s too short, so better to be together when they can.
The two of them found a nearby house, a house with a garden and a yard big enough for the child to play in, not far from the old place, planning to move once the child’s school transfer was settled over the weekend.
That way they could use this time to handle the child’s school transfer smoothly.
