My Mysterious Hidden Husband
Chapter 28: Mr. Sutton’s Woman
CHAPTER 28: CHAPTER 28: MR. SUTTON’S WOMAN
The next day, Shannon Quinn still didn’t go to the studio, asking for a few more days off under the pretense of illness.
She didn’t want to do anything; even a slight movement would tug at the wound on her back, causing pain.
She spent the whole morning sitting on the carpet in the living room, lying on the edge of the coffee table, watching TV shows and browsing Weibo, when she saw Vincent Rhodes’ number.
A long string of digits, likely a virtual phone number.
She hadn’t planned to use this number to find Vincent Rhodes, as she knew he’d only contact her when he had something, and if she tried reaching out, he might not even respond.
Before Vincent Rhodes appeared, she was merely curious and would follow those random rumors to speculate what kind of person he really was.
After he appeared, aside from that curiosity, she seemed to have developed a desire to explore further.
Why was he willing to appear before her but not in the public eye?
He wasn’t as bad as the rumors suggested and could easily prove them wrong.
Moreover, his appearance was somewhat like a mysterious boss in a movie, giving off a cool vibe—really couldn’t understand what couldn’t be seen.
In the dimly lit, abandoned garage, Landon Sutton stood with his back to the entrance, a cigarette in his mouth but not lit, repeatedly opening and closing a lighter in his hand with a "click-clack" sound echoing in the otherwise silent parking lot.
"Master Nate..." Ronan Rhodes cautiously called out beside him, asking, "Did one of the guys under you screw up again?"
Landon Sutton didn’t speak, his gaze still lowered somewhere unknown, continuing to toy with the lighter.
Ronan could tell that Landon was truly annoyed this time, it had been a long while since he saw him this angry.
He called him up in the middle of the night, adamantly going against The Ward Company’s small venture, willing to spend money to bring them down.
He didn’t tell him what the issue was, but it must be that someone with the last name Ward offended him.
Before long, a black Range Rover drove into the entrance of the garage, steadily parking beside Landon Sutton.
A young man with a crew cut emerged from the driver’s seat, grinning at Landon Sutton, "Bro, the people are tied up."
Landon Sutton turned around and finally lit the cigarette in his mouth.
He watched as the crew cut guy and another with glasses opened the back door and dropped two sacks onto the ground.
The people inside the sacks struggled, voicing sounds that included both male and female tones, their mouths sealed, producing only muffled "mm-mm" sounds.
Landon Sutton slowly exhaled in disgust, lightly tilting his chin upwards, "Open them."
The sacks were untied, revealing Director Ward from last night and June Yardley.
When June saw that Landon was the one who kidnapped her, her pupils contracted intensely, in both shock and fear, her muffled sounds becoming more urgent.
"Rip it off."
The crew cut guy squatted down and harshly tore the tape off June’s mouth, making Ronan wince just watching.
June furrowed her brow, glaring at Landon, "Landon Sutton, what are you trying to do?!"
Landon lightly flicked some ash from his cigarette, standing in front of the two, looking down at June.
"You dare kidnap me! Don’t you know I’m Simon Rhodes’ fiancée?! If he finds out, he won’t let you off! You better let me go now!"
Landon lightly chuckled, showing no fear, extending his hand to the side.
Ronan immediately understood and handed over a bottle of liquor he’d prepared in advance to Landon Sutton.
Landon crouched down, looking at June, extending the bottle toward her, "Drink it."
June knew that there was likely something wrong with this alcohol, turning her head and glaring at Landon, "You madman!"
Landon seemed unwilling to argue any longer, passing the bottle to the crew cut guy. A faintly uttered word escaped his lips, "Force her."
"Landon Sutton!" June struggled furiously, but her hands and feet were bound; no matter how much she squirmed, it was futile.
"Is it because of last night with Shannon? You don’t know the truth! Shannon was the one who pushed me first! I was injured too! Wyatt Ward felt sorry for me and wanted to stand up for me, I didn’t expect him to go that far. I truly am innocent! I didn’t want Shannon to get hurt; after all, she’s practically my sister." June played the sympathy card, casting all blame on Wyatt Ward to try and escape.
Landon merely smiled, casually flicked off some ash which fell onto June’s foot, and remarked, "Do you think everyone is that easy to fool? Do you think I trust the surveillance or you?"
June froze, realizing her lie was exposed, and hastily said, "Landon Sutton, you need to understand! Shannon Quinn is Vincent Rhodes’ wife! She’s married! Even if you like her, so what? Are all these things you’re doing for her really worth it? Do you think she will appreciate it?"
Landon turned his back slightly, stepping aside and softly stated, "Too much talking, force it."
The crew cut guy nodded, immediately crouching down by June, forcibly prying open her mouth, pouring the alcohol in, half of it going into her mouth, the other half spilling onto the ground.
Knowing that the alcohol was problematic, June had no choice but to swallow it. Only after forcing down the entire bottle, the crew cut guy let go, standing by awaiting further instructions from Landon.
June coughed miserably, but Landon paid her no mind, shifting his focus to Wyatt Ward beside her.
Wyatt Ward shrank back in fear, murmuring incoherently, trying to say something.
Landon reached out, smashing the glass bottle in the crew cut guy’s hand with a loud bang, grabbing a piece of glass from the floor as Ronan rushed forward concerned about his safety, saying, "Be careful not to cut yourself, Master Nate."
Yet, Landon seemed oblivious, gripping the shard of glass, walking toward Wyatt Ward, prying the tape off his mouth—Wyatt immediately begged for mercy, "Boss Sutton, spare me! I’m sorry, truly sorry! Last night I was blind and failed to recognize who you were. If I’d known she was Mr. Sutton’s woman, you could’ve offered me a hundred lives and I still wouldn’t have dared to touch her."
"You didn’t seem to hold back while hitting, did you?"
Landon recalled the scene from last night, seething with a desire to handle this man personally.
"I’m a businessman who dislikes being taken advantage of and equally dislikes taking advantage of others. Settle the debts as they were incurred," he said, using the hand holding the cigarette to forcibly open Wyatt’s mouth, while the other hand emptied the glass shards into it...
Wyatt struggled violently, but Landon didn’t even blink.
Compared to the injury Shannon sustained last night, he felt he was already being merciful.
"Master Nate, leave these matters to us. You don’t need to handle it yourself; shouldn’t dirty your hands."
Landon stood, accepting the handkerchief Ronan offered to wipe his hands, then looked at June, saying, "Let me make this clear today, anyone who dares lay a hand on Shannon Quinn again, I’ll make them feel today’s suffering was a blessing."
