CHAPTER 340: CHAPTER 340: I’M PREGNANT

For the first time, he heard her beg him.

He’s always hated her stubbornness, hoping one day she would show some softness and plead. But looking at her in front of him now, begging for a divorce, Shawn Rhodes didn’t feel any comfort in his heart.

He irritably threw the paper towel he’d been using to wipe his hands in front of her and left without forgetting to malign her: "Disgusting."

Susan Wilde closed her eyes in despair, and tears immediately streamed down her face.

She didn’t know what went wrong for things to develop this way.

She even reflected internally on whether she had done something wrong...

A broken family, a failed love, a distorted marriage...

She’s always wanted to live well through her own efforts, believing that every decision she made was true to her conscience. But in the end, everything just went further downhill.

Shawn Rhodes drove aimlessly, uncertain of where the suffocating frustration in his heart was coming from.

Rowan Alder called. He just glanced at it, neither picking it up nor hanging it up.

He probably already knew Rowan Alder was calling to question why he didn’t come back last night.

He wasn’t in the mood to explain it now.

The phone automatically hung up and rang again. After two repeats, it finally quieted down.

The car arrived at the company, and just right after parking it in the basement, Rowan Alder called again.

Shawn Rhodes took a deep breath, calming his uneasy emotions before picking up the call.

"Why didn’t you answer my call?" As soon as the call connected, Rowan Alder questioned him with grievance and anger.

Shawn walked toward the elevator: "It was on silent mode, didn’t hear it."

Rowan Alder: "Where did you go last night?"

Shawn: "I drank too much, and my assistant took me to a hotel for the night."

Rowan Alder: "Which assistant? A man or a woman?"

Shawn: "Do I have a female assistant?"

Rowan Alder was still skeptical: "Did you go see your wife?"

Shawn: "Why would I look for her? I’m going to prepare for a meeting, if there’s nothing else, I’ll hang up."

Rowan Alder: "I’m pregnant."

Shawn paused in his steps into the elevator, his expression complex: "Where are you?"

Rowan Alder: "Central Hospital."

Shawn turned back to the car and drove straight to Central Hospital.

When he found Rowan Alder, she was sitting on a bench in the first-floor lobby, waiting for him.

Shawn walked over quickly and asked her: "Really?"

Rowan Alder didn’t answer but stared at his face, noting that his urgent expression seemed to lack the joy of impending fatherhood, more filled with surprise and bewilderment, as if to say: Why are you pregnant despite precautions?

Rowan Alder gave a bitter smile: "You don’t seem to want this to be true."

Shawn lowered his eyes and sat in the vacant seat next to her, explaining: "No, I’m just puzzled. Besides, at this time, we’re really not suited to have a child."

Rowan Alder sneered: "Then what do you suggest?"

Shawn paused, speaking steadily: "Abort it."

Rowan Alder seemed to hear the world’s biggest joke, stood up from the bench, and distanced herself: "You say you’re not in love with that woman, are you deceiving me or yourself?"

Shawn’s silence seemed to confirm her words, making Rowan Alder furious, her breathing turning ragged.

She ground her teeth, saying: "Let’s break up, I feel there’s no future for us, and I don’t want to wait any longer, I won’t abort the child, I can raise it myself. From now on, you live your life, and I’ll live mine. I don’t want to be called a shameless mistress anymore, and enduring all this for you is really not worth it."

Shawn frowned, stood up, and hugged her: "What nonsense are you talking about? I said I’d marry you, and I definitely will. It’s not that I don’t want the child, but I can’t bear to have the child suffer like this when I still can’t give you a rightful place."

His embrace softened Rowan Alder’s heart.

Shawn: "It’s my failing, it’s my fault to you, but I promise to make it up to you in the future, please stop talking about breaking up, alright?"

Rowan Alder cried with grievance, raising her arms to hold him: "Do you know how scared I am? I’m terrified that if you truly fell in love with that woman, I’d have nothing left."

Shawn: "No way, I’ve only ever loved you from beginning to end."

Rowan Alder: "But I can feel that you’re different from before."

Shawn wiped away her tears while speaking: "It’s just that I’ve been too busy with work lately and neglected you somewhat. Once I’m done with this period, I’ll spend more time with you."

Rowan Alder: "What about the child? Do you want it?"

Shawn nodded: "Let’s have it."

Rowan Alder looked up and asked again: "Before the child is born, you must divorce her."

Shawn furrowed his brow: "You know my parents’ temper, I’m afraid I can’t divorce her that quickly."

Rowan Alder: "I don’t care, figure out a way, I don’t want to share you with anyone else anymore, nor do I want to be so uncertain."

Shawn: "Alright, I’ll try to find a way."

Rowan Alder: "If it really doesn’t work, we’ll leave here. I can earn enough to support you and the child."

Shawn patted her head: "Why talk nonsense? I won’t let you suffer, once the company’s finances are more stable, I’ll divorce."

Only then did Rowan Alder smile with satisfaction, but there seemed to be something apprehensive in Shawn’s eyes.

He recalled Susan Wilde’s words to him; she had purposely suggested a divorce, which shouldn’t affect the collaboration and benefits between the families, he should’ve agreed.

Yet, for some reason, hearing her say she wanted a divorce made him restless.

Mrs. Rhodes called asking Shawn to bring Susan Wilde home for dinner. Shawn agreed but didn’t know how to find Susan Wilde.

Mrs. Rhodes had called in the morning, yet he delayed until the afternoon before messaging Susan Wilde.

After waiting a few minutes without receiving a reply, he called her instead.

When the call connected, she hung up.

After calming down, he knew very well his behavior in the morning had been excessive; she might not forgive him.

And her proposal for a divorce, did it mean she no longer wished to play the role of his wife?

Racing to her company’s closing time, he went there first, only to learn she hadn’t come in all day.

He then drove to her new residence, knocked persistently, but no one answered, suggesting she wasn’t home.

The family called twice urging him, leaving Shawn no choice but to drive back alone.

Mrs. Rhodes greeted him, seeing only Shawn getting out of the car, asked in confusion: "Why are you alone? Where’s Skylar Vance?"

Shawn looked at the parked car beside him, it was Simon Rhodes’, unexpectedly finding him there as well.

Realizing this, Simon Rhodes already appeared in his sight.
