My Mysterious Hidden Husband
Chapter 347: He’s My Second Uncle
CHAPTER 347: CHAPTER 347: HE’S MY SECOND UNCLE
Shawn Rhodes turned his head to look at her, "I advise you to give up on that idea sooner rather than later."
Susan Wilde said nothing.
Shawn Rhodes: "He’s my second uncle. Even if we get divorced, you still won’t have a chance to be with him. The Rhodes Family will never allow such a scandalous thing to happen."
Susan Wilde: "If that’s the case, then what are you still worried about? Besides, these things don’t really affect you, so there’s no need for you to concern yourself."
Shawn Rhodes frowned, feeling displeased with her attitude.
He wanted to come and have a proper talk with her, but her words were sharp and stinging.
Susan Wilde: "Instead of worrying about this, you should think about what to do when Rowan Alder’s child is born."
Shawn Rhodes sneered, "Susan Wilde, you’re really quite annoying."
Susan Wilde smiled faintly, "There’s no way to like someone you dislike. I’m still saying we should get the divorce early; it would be good for both of us. If we continue to entangle like this, I don’t care, but I’m afraid your child’s birth will be burdened with a reputation that can’t be seen in the light."
"Sister, brother-in-law, what are you talking about?" Claire Wilde finished her game, took off her headphones, and moved to the living room, seemingly wanting to join their conversation.
Susan Wilde collected her earlier emotions and smiled, "Your brother-in-law just came back from a business trip and is going to rest."
Claire Wilde: "You should go back together."
Shawn Rhodes glanced at Susan Wilde, but before she could respond, Claire Wilde chimed in, "Sister, don’t worry about me. I’m a grown-up now, so you don’t need to be with me all the time. Besides, Ms. Yardley’s house is nearby, and if anything happens, I can go to her. You and brother-in-law haven’t seen each other for a long time, and absence makes the heart grow fonder, so hurry up and go back with him."
Susan Wilde just said, "I haven’t packed my things, and work has been quite busy lately, so I won’t be going back for now."
Claire Wilde: "Oh, sister, your brother-in-law only comes back once in such a long time, and you’re using work as an excuse."
Shawn Rhodes initially just wanted to see her. Hearing Claire Wilde’s suggestion, he agreed, "If you pack now, I’ll wait for you."
Susan Wilde turned her head and frowned slightly, looking at Shawn Rhodes with some confusion, unsure what kind of tricks he was up to. She really had no interest in playing games with him, and deep down, she was afraid to be alone with Shawn Rhodes.
If it weren’t for Iris being here today, she probably wouldn’t have opened the door for Shawn Rhodes.
Claire Wilde enthusiastically got up to help Susan Wilde pack some everyday items and clothes, hoping the two of them would hurry up and leave together.
Understanding Iris’s good intentions, Susan Wilde didn’t know how to explain so as not to let Iris notice anything. She had to pretend and pack simply, grabbed a bag, and went out with Shawn Rhodes.
Downstairs, Shawn Rhodes opened the car door, waiting for Susan Wilde to get inside.
But Susan Wilde stood by the car and asked him, "Are you really planning to take me back?"
Shawn Rhodes raised his eyebrows, "Up to you. The marital home has been vacant all this time. You can go back if you want."
Susan Wilde was silent for a moment, not very willing to return to that place, and only said, "You go ahead; I’ll just find a hotel and stay for a night."
Shawn Rhodes: "Stay at a hotel?"
Susan Wilde sneered, "Or do you really want me to sleep on the street?"
Shawn Rhodes remained silent; at this moment, Rowan Alder called, asking why he hadn’t come back yet.
Shawn Rhodes looked at Susan Wilde, patiently coaxing on the phone, "Sweetie, I’ll be back soon."
After a few affectionate words, Shawn Rhodes got into the driver’s seat, looking like he was in a hurry to leave. Yet he still rolled down the car window and said, "Which hotel are you going to? I’ll give you a lift."
Susan Wilde shook her head, "No need, you go ahead."
Shawn Rhodes furrowed his brows, wanting to say something else but hesitated, then turned the car around and drove straight away.
Susan Wilde walked to the hotel across the road, checked into a room, and stayed there.
She didn’t quite understand why Shawn Rhodes wouldn’t agree to divorce, maybe still worried that it would harm his interests.
Otherwise, given the current situation with Rowan Alder pregnant with his child, if there weren’t any interests involved, he probably wouldn’t wait to divorce and marry Rowan Alder immediately.
Sitting on the balcony of the hotel room, looking at the lights of thousands of homes, the bustling view could not dispel the slight solitude in her heart.
For the first time, Susan Wilde had the urge to drink.
She got up and took a bottle of red wine sold from the room’s liquor cabinet, wrestling with it for a bit before opening it.
She sat back on the balcony, leaning on the chair, looking at the dazzling night scene, taking a sip of red wine from the glass.
The taste was still not so pleasant, Susan Wilde tried to slowly get accustomed to it.
"Buzz buzz--"
The phone placed on the table vibrated for a moment; she did not check it and poured more than half a glass of wine.
Drinking felt nice, not having to think about all the chaotic things in her mind when drunk.
The more significant reason was this bottle of wine wasn’t cheap; not finishing it felt like wasting her money.
Dizzily lying on the chair, her gaze slightly blurred, watching tall buildings rise and the vibrant city lights.
The night wind was a bit chilly, Susan Wilde wrapped the thin blanket around herself and curled up in the chair, falling asleep.
Cinderfall Island.
Because of the rain, Shannon Quinn and Landon Sutton found a place to shelter and didn’t go wandering anymore.
At eight in the evening, the travel group gathered for the return journey.
There was no longer an island tour on the way back, the voyage took about half an hour.
That night was stormy and windy, with large waves.
Shannon Quinn felt a bit seasick, Landon Sutton sat beside her, taking care of her attentively, somewhat regretting bringing her to endure such hardships.
Shannon Quinn and Landon Sutton sat side by side, Seth Fairchild sat in front of them, occasionally showing up in Landon Sutton’s sight during the journey but didn’t cause any trouble.
Outside the ship, lightning flashed, creating scenes somewhat like a post-apocalyptic blockbuster, with many people holding their phones up to capture the rare dark sky outside the windows.
Suddenly, the sea churned violently, tilting the ship slightly.
After an exclamation, people laughed and joked, feeling this experience was like an adventure, finding it novel without realizing the danger.
Shannon Quinn nestled in Landon Sutton’s arms, looking at the terrifying sky outside the window, worriedly asking him, "Do you think the ship will capsize?"
Landon Sutton smiled and said, "Don’t worry, there’s a whole ship of people here. They must have considered safety before heading out to sea."
Shannon Quinn: "How long until we dock?"
Landon Sutton: "Another ten minutes or so, it’s close. Are you feeling uncomfortable?"
Shannon Quinn shook her head, a hint of unease in her expression.
The rain outside grew heavier, the ship swayed more intensely, the sea slapped against the windows as if trying to swallow the ship.
The ship’s windows were firmly shut, yet seemed to be blown open by the wind, creaking as they rocked.
Shannon Quinn tightly gripped Landon Sutton’s clothes with her hand, feeling uneasy due to the rough weather before docking, not feeling secure.
