My Mysterious Hidden Husband
Chapter 355: Our Story
CHAPTER 355: CHAPTER 355: OUR STORY
Shannon Quinn wanted to get closer to him but couldn’t move her feet.
The coldness and unfamiliarity in his eyes made her dismiss the idea of hugging him. She simply looked up and stared at him.
Her slightly damp eyes, eyelashes trembling slightly with her eyelids...
"What’s your name?" he asked.
Shannon Quinn pressed her dry lips together and spoke, but her voice was a bit hoarse: "Shannon Quinn."
She pronounced each word distinctly, fearing he couldn’t hear it clearly, afraid he couldn’t remember.
Upon hearing the name, Landon Sutton’s expression showed no emotional fluctuation; evidently, the name held no memory for him.
Shannon Quinn felt a bit uncomfortable inside, but she lowered her gaze and smiled, saying softly, "It’s okay if you can’t remember for now. I’ll wait here until you do, and then we’ll go home together."
He didn’t say anything, just slightly furrowed his brows.
The sea breeze roared past their ears, and while neither spoke, it shouldn’t be considered silent.
"...Do you remember Leo?" After staring at the sea for a while, Shannon Quinn turned her head to ask him standing beside her.
Landon Sutton lowered his eyes to look at her, not replying; the puzzled look in his eyes already gave Shannon Quinn the unwanted answer.
Shannon Quinn: "He’s our son, still in school. When he has a weekend off, I’ll have your brother bring him over."
She smiled, but her smile was somewhat bitter: "The child asks every day where you’ve gone, and I always say you’re busy with work and traveling."
Actually, that period was the most agonizing time for Shannon Quinn. She thought Landon Sutton might never come back.
So now, as long as he was standing before her well and good, she should be grateful and satisfied.
Landon Sutton listened to these words, his face showing no expression, as if he were listening to a story unrelated to him.
His silence didn’t make Shannon Quinn lose confidence. She looked down and rummaged through her bag, taking out a thick pink notebook, and said with a smile: "Do you remember this? I documented some of our past experiences in this diary. We agreed, just in case one of us had Alzheimer’s in old age and couldn’t remember the other, we would tell the stories from this notebook to each other."
"You said if I forgot you, you’d make me fall in love with you again; I asked what we’d do if you forgot me, you said you’d never forget me..."
Saying this, Shannon Quinn glanced at Landon Sutton. He blinked and kept looking far out at the sea, still not speaking.
Shannon Quinn smiled lightly, saying, "Now that you don’t remember me, I also want to make you fall in love with me again. Even if you never remember our past, I’ll still try to make you love the present me."
Landon Sutton didn’t know the truth of these words, but he was somewhat moved.
Yet, until he figured everything out, he wouldn’t easily trust anyone’s words, whether Joel Bellamy’s or Shannon Quinn’s.
He glanced at Shannon Quinn’s belly, her loose dress blown by the sea breeze tightly against her stomach, making her pregnancy quite apparent.
Regardless of the truth in Shannon Quinn’s words or whether the child was his, her pregnancy was at least real, and he still hoped she’d take care of herself and her unborn child.
So he said, "You should go back."
Shannon Quinn turned to look at him, thinking he wanted her to leave, but as she was about to speak, his voice came through again: "It’s windy here; you might catch a cold."
Hearing his concern, Shannon Quinn smiled: "But this is the only place I can see you."
Landon Sutton: "Where are you staying?"
Shannon Quinn pointed to the hillside: "Behind the hill, just run over and you can see."
The households here are quite sparse, with each one spread far apart.
Landon Sutton thought for a moment and said, "I’ll come over in the afternoon."
Shannon Quinn smiled happily: "Really?"
Landon Sutton glanced at the diary in her hand: "Aren’t you going to tell me your story?"
Shannon Quinn corrected him: "It’s our story."
Before Landon Sutton could say anything else, Joel Bellamy’s voice came from afar: "Brother!"
Landon Sutton heard the call and walked out, watching Joel Bellamy run up to him, enthusiastically chatting about something.
Joel Bellamy was probably curious why Landon Sutton had gone to the rock, so he looked in that direction and saw Shannon Quinn.
Shannon Quinn didn’t avoid him; after a brief eye contact, she turned and left.
Joel Bellamy glared at Shannon Quinn’s back before turning to Landon Sutton indignantly: "Why does she come looking for you again?"
Landon Sutton: "Just happened to run into her."
Joel Bellamy: "What do you mean ’just happened’? That woman is deliberately causing trouble. Brother, you should be more cautious and avoid her!"
Landon Sutton thought for a moment and said, "I feel like I’ve seen her before. She feels very familiar, but I can’t remember anything."
Joel Bellamy swallowed and said, "Brother, haven’t I told you? She’s from our village; it’s normal for you to have seen her before. She’s just a widow, always pining over you, and now that you don’t remember the past, she wants to break us apart!"
Landon Sutton didn’t speak but watched Shannon Quinn’s departing figure.
When he saw her yesterday, he felt something strange within himself, an emotion he couldn’t quite articulate. But he felt she was linked to his past memories, making him want to understand more about himself.
That’s also why he suggested listening to her stories from the diary.
Of course, he didn’t tell Joel Bellamy any of this.
At noon, they had lunch on a small table set up on the porch, with the sea breeze blowing. They ate fish soup and greens.
Suddenly, Landon Sutton asked Joel Bellamy, who was sitting across from him: "How did I lose my memory?"
Joel Bellamy hesitated with her chopstick in mid-air and then said, "You went fishing with my dad, and the fishing boat ran into trouble. You fell into the sea, and my dad saved you. After that, you were unconscious for a long time, and when you woke up, you couldn’t remember anything."
Landon Sutton: "So, I used to live around here all the time?"
Joel Bellamy was taken aback, unsure if he had remembered something, so she said confidently: "Of course, you and I both grew up here. We were betrothed to each other as kids, and that widow has always been secretly in love with you, trying to break us apart."
Landon Sutton, puzzled: "Betrothed?"
In his heart, he only regarded Joel Bellamy as a sister.
Yet, he wasn’t sure whether he had truly liked this girl before.
Two completely different stories left him unsure whom to believe.
Thinking of Shannon Quinn, Joel Bellamy became cautious and reminded Landon Sutton: "No matter what that woman says to you, don’t believe her. She’s quite crafty; everyone in the village knows she’s a widow, and no man would want her. Now, seeing you like this, she clings to you!"
