My Mysterious Hidden Husband
Chapter 378: I Don’t Like You
CHAPTER 378: CHAPTER 378: I DON’T LIKE YOU
Listening to such promises from Simon Rhodes, how could Susan Wilde not be moved?
She knew he wasn’t boasting; he had the means to do these things.
But she had to consider the consequences of doing so.
She was Shawn Rhodes’ wife, and regardless of the reasons for their marriage, that was an unchangeable fact.
She could remarry after the divorce, but that person couldn’t be Simon Rhodes.
The impact of the family scandal on the Rhodes Family was imaginable, and while Simon Rhodes might be ready to face all this, she couldn’t be so selfish without considering the consequences.
If she acted on impulse, by the time things got out of hand, it would be too late.
After thinking for a long time, Susan Wilde typed a message: Thank you, I see everything you’ve done, and I remember it in my heart, but I don’t like you. Even if I divorce Shawn, I won’t marry you. Don’t waste time on me; find a nice girl to be with, we’re not suitable.
She read this message over and over for a long time before she mustered the courage to press send.
Thinking that once this message was sent, it might truly push him away forever.
Thinking of this, her eyes couldn’t help but get wet.
The issue between her and Simon Rhodes wasn’t just a matter of feelings between two people; there were many obstacles and gaps causing numerous troubles.
With his conditions, he could find a better girl and avoid these troubles and concerns.
While waiting for his reply, an incoming call suddenly appeared on the screen.
Susan Wilde felt a bit nervous but also wanted to take the opportunity to make things clear, took a deep breath, and pressed the answer button: "Hello."
"Repeat what you just said." His voice was husky and magnetic, sounding like a bottle of old wine, making one feel dizzy and the mind a bit hazy.
Susan Wilde stuttered: "Wha...what words?"
Simon Rhodes: "Didn’t you say you don’t like me? Say it to me personally."
Susan Wilde was at a loss for words, she opened her mouth, only to find that some words were easy to type but difficult to say aloud.
Simon Rhodes: "Do you want me to come over and say it to your face?"
Susan Wilde was startled: "No! I don’t like you! Don’t cling to me anymore!"
After saying this, Susan Wilde breathed a sigh of relief, but her heart felt as if something was blocking it, a dull pain.
However, on the other end, he let out a low laugh: "I’ve never been in love, but I can still distinguish between truth and lies, whether you’re hesitant or deceiving yourself. Don’t use that excuse to push me away in the future. I’m not forcing you to immediately accept these, but don’t completely deny me either."
Tears immediately fell from Susan Wilde’s eyes, but she controlled her tone so he couldn’t hear that she was crying: "Why do you like me so much?"
Simon Rhodes chuckled: "It’s a long story, I’ll tell you slowly in the future, rest early, goodnight."
He said goodnight, but didn’t hang up the call.
Susan Wilde thought he was waiting for her response, not knowing what to say, when his voice sounded again: "You hang up."
Susan Wilde hesitated, removed the phone from her ear, glanced at the still-ticking call duration, and pressed the red call button to end the call.
Pressing the phone to her chest, his words "goodnight" still echoed in her ears.
Susan Wilde admitted she had a thing for voices, and just his voice alone was enough to captivate her.
For the first time, Susan Wilde experienced the feeling of regret meeting too late.
Footsteps sounded outside the room, and Susan Wilde immediately put down the phone and pretended to be asleep.
She heard the door open, footsteps gently approached from afar, and stopped by the bed.
Not knowing what he was doing, there was no sound at all.
Susan Wilde lay stiffly, waiting for him to leave, but then her phone on the bedside table chimed.
Shawn Rhodes looked at the brightening phone screen, picked it up, and glanced at it.
Susan Wilde felt a pang of guilt, almost unable to hold it in.
The text message displayed its content on the lock screen, though she hadn’t saved the contact’s name.
She didn’t know what the message content was, but she could guess it was sent by Simon Rhodes.
She could imagine Shawn’s expression when he saw the message and had a foreboding that he would explode with fury.
Hearing the phone placed back on the bedside table, even the smallest movements made Susan Wilde’s hair stand on end.
She turned her back to Shawn, particularly afraid he’d grab her hair and drag her out of bed like before.
However, the anticipated pain didn’t come, the footsteps sounded again, the door opened and closed whenever so gently. If she were truly asleep, she wouldn’t have noticed his presence at all.
Previously, when he entered her room, it always felt like the sky and earth were shaking, leaving with a door-slam almost damaging it.
The room fell silent again, and Susan Wilde worried that he might return, so she tightly wrapped herself in the blanket, not daring to move.
After a few minutes passed and there was no sound outside, Susan Wilde reached for her phone to check.
The message content was only a few short words: Sweet dreams.
If Shawn hadn’t seen this message, she might have actually had a sweet dream.
The whole night, Susan Wilde worried that Shawn would come to trouble her, on edge, even her dreams were troubled and oppressive.
...
Upstairs, Rowan Alder woke to find the pillow beside her empty.
"Shaw?" She got up to look, seeing the man standing on the balcony in a dark blue silk robe.
Shawn Rhodes saw her come over and extinguished his cigarette: "Not sleeping a bit longer?"
Rowan Alder looked at him with a melancholic expression: "What’s troubling you? Feels like you hardly slept all night."
Shawn switched the topic: "Shouldn’t we go to the hospital this afternoon for a check-up?"
Rowan Alder nodded, seeing Shawn truly wearied, she then said: "I’ll have Jessie accompany me to the hospital, you seem tired, rest at home for a day."
Shawn: "It’s alright, I’ll go with you this afternoon."
Rowan Alder: "Well, get some rest now; I’ll call you for lunch."
Shawn nodded, making an excuse to go downstairs to make breakfast, but in truth wanting to use this opportunity to encounter Susan Wilde.
She was still the same as when she lived here before, heading straight to the entrance to change shoes and leave as soon as she came out of the room.
Shawn recalled last night’s message, impossible to dismiss from his mind.
She was his wife, no matter their feelings, she was his wife.
Last night’s message, though without a name saved, he knew it was from Simon Rhodes.
Seeing the message’s content, he didn’t feel the anger he would have previously, mistakenly blaming her.
He knew that during their separation, she and Simon Rhodes remained in contact.
He saw Simon’s car parked outside her shop several times when passing by.
Simon actively pursuing her shouldn’t be blamed on her.
Ultimately, it was he who offered Simon the opportunity.
If he had fulfilled his duties as a husband, Simon wouldn’t have had the chance to get so close to her.
