My Mysterious Hidden Husband
Chapter 387: A Thief Crying "Stop Thief
CHAPTER 387: CHAPTER 387: A THIEF CRYING "STOP THIEF
Susan Wilde felt her attitude was clear enough, didn’t she? She was the one who initiated the divorce, and it wouldn’t affect him marrying Rowan Alder. So why did he still want her dead?
As for this storage room, Susan Wilde was unfamiliar with the layout inside.
Now, the room was devoid of light, and she couldn’t see a thing.
She fumbled around for a long time but couldn’t find anything useful.
Perhaps due to the fear in her heart, she was already feeling short of breath.
Maybe she should sit quietly, let her heartbeat calm down, so she could live a little longer.
But she couldn’t think of anyone who would come to rescue her...
She deeply regretted leaving her bag at the entrance when she came in, as she now had no means to contact the outside world.
Sitting against the door, in a pitch-black room with no ventilation.
The feeling was one of despair.
Susan Wilde even started to think about the manner of her death.
Would she starve? Thirst to death? Or suffocate?
No matter which way, the thought of it made her uncomfortable.
A little after three in the afternoon, Shawn Rhodes passed by Susan Wilde’s store on his way to the airport. He slowed down but didn’t see her.
He had sent her a text earlier saying he would be on a business trip for two days, but he didn’t receive a reply.
Perhaps he shouldn’t have hoped for anything.
The car sped up again, passing her store and heading straight to the airport.
A little after five in the evening, Simon Rhodes drove over to the store to find her, hoping to invite her to dinner, but the employee informed him that she hadn’t returned since going out at noon.
Simon Rhodes called her, but no one answered.
Could it be that Shawn was controlling her?
With this thought, Simon Rhodes drove to the Rhodes Family’s place.
The elders warmly received him, and from them, he learned that Shawn had gone to the airport in the afternoon and would be on a business trip for two days.
Upon inquiry, he discovered that Susan Wilde hadn’t returned yet.
Where could she have gone?
The inability to reach her was what worried him the most.
Simon Rhodes thought of her sister and called Claire Wilde at her school. Claire replied, "My sister moved to my brother-in-law’s house, she hasn’t been back home."
Apparently, Claire Wilde also didn’t know Susan Wilde’s whereabouts.
Could it be that she encountered something and wanted to be alone?
But she seemed fine in the morning, without signs of being troubled.
As the sky darkened and rain started pouring down,
Simon Rhodes drove back home, called her twice more, but it still went through without anyone answering.
Feeling uneasy yet not knowing where to search, he thought he’d try again the next morning, hoping she’d appear at her store.
It rained heavily all night, with thunder rumbling, and Simon didn’t sleep much.
A bit after four, he got up, checked his phone, still no response from Susan Wilde.
He called again, only to find her phone switched off.
This made him even more uneasy.
He drove to her store and waited from five in the morning until it opened, but by almost ten, she still hadn’t appeared.
She usually arrived around eight, never more than five minutes late.
This anomaly made him feel something was wrong, suspecting Shawn had hidden her on purpose.
Perhaps Shawn didn’t leave alone yesterday afternoon but took her along.
The business trip might just be a smokescreen.
With these thoughts, Simon Rhodes was about to call Shawn, but just as he was dialing, Shawn called him.
Once connected, Shawn questioned, "Is she with you?"
Simon Rhodes: "The pot calling the kettle black."
Shawn: "I don’t object to you being with her, I just want to make sure she’s safe. My mom called this morning saying she didn’t come back last night. I just called her, but her phone’s off."
Not sounding like a lie, Simon Rhodes said, "I’m also searching for her everywhere."
Shawn frowned, "I hope you’re not lying to me. I said I don’t object to you being with her; I just want to ensure her safety."
Simon Rhodes: "I hope you’re not lying either, don’t hide her and then accuse me."
Shawn: "She’s my wife, I don’t need to hide her, whereas you’re more likely to do something like that."
Simon Rhodes: "In that case, I’ll report to the police."
Shawn: "Fine, I’ll book a ticket and come back immediately. Don’t let me find out you’re up to something."
Simon Rhodes hung up and drove to the police station.
After filing a report, he asked his friends at the station to check Susan Wilde’s travel records. There were no hotel check-ins or travel plans on her record last night.
Indicating she’s still around here, where could she have gone alone?
After leaving the police station, Simon Rhodes drove to Susan Wilde’s former rental place.
He knocked on the door for a while but no one answered, and after checking with the guard, confirmed she hadn’t been there.
She usually only frequents these places: work or home, and even when going out, she wouldn’t lose contact.
Stranger still, her phone was reachable yesterday but not answered; today it’s switched off, as if the battery went dead.
Perhaps the phone is not with her.
Having no other options, Simon even went to find Shannon Quinn and Erin Bishop, but still got no news.
She disappeared without a trace.
He suddenly thought of his grandfather. Could it be that his grandfather found out about him and Susan Wilde and secretly "resolved" it?
Just as he was hesitating whether to drive back and confront Shane Royale, he got a call from Shawn: "You should check my place."
Suddenly, Simon remembered the one place he hadn’t checked: Shawn’s marital home.
But she shouldn’t be there, should she?
Still doubtful, Shawn explained, "I called Laura earlier; she was emotional and spoke extremely. I’m beginning to suspect Laura did something. You should go check."
Mentioning Laura made Simon feel it was a possibility.
He immediately drove to Shawn’s marital home, but when he tried to enter, the security stopped him: "Sorry, President Rhodes, Miss Dixon instructed that no one should enter until she returns."
Simon frowned, feeling more certain that Susan Wilde was inside: "Shawn told me to come."
The security said, "The young master isn’t here."
Simon Rhodes: "Did Miss Wilde come by yesterday?"
The security shook his head: "I wasn’t on duty yesterday, didn’t see Miss Wilde."
Sensing time was running out, Simon decided to take the back door when the front didn’t work.
After leaving, he went to the wall at the back, climbing over with much more ease this time.
Ignoring the thorns in the rose bushes, he quickly crossed over and climbed over the balcony railing.
He pushed against the balcony’s glass door, which was locked from the inside.
Looking around, there was nothing he could use for leverage.
Urgent to save her, he stepped back, then kicked the glass door heavily. The glass shattered, falling to the ground...
