CHAPTER 41: CHAPTER 41: KEEP HER COMPANY FOR ME

Taking off his mask, Landon Sutton looked at the breakfast before him, a smile tugging at the corners of his mouth.

He picked up a spoon and took a sip; the taste was quite good. It was probably the most delicious food he had ever eaten in his life.

If he had known that getting injured would mean she’d take care of him, he would have been willing to stab himself.

This woman’s appearance broke too many of his rules and taboos, and he found that in matters concerning her, his usual self-discipline became impulsive and unrestrained.

Whenever he thought of her, he would come up with all sorts of ways to see her.

He hadn’t planned on interacting directly with her during this vacation, thinking it was enough to see her from the perspective of a stranger.

However, everything deviated from the plan, and from the day he returned, his mind and heart were consumed by matters related to her, not wanting to stop for a moment.

Seeing her happy, seeing her angry, stubborn, furious, guilty, and sad...

Whether she was in front of Vincent Rhodes or Landon Sutton, she seemed unable to control her emotions very well.

No matter how she was, he found her very cute and felt that a lifetime wouldn’t be enough to love her.

The news of her pregnancy, without a doubt, excited him, but amidst the excitement, there was also concern.

Because her being pregnant now meant that he couldn’t be with her when she needed him most; whether in public or private, the burden she bore wouldn’t be any less than his.

In her heart, the child was Landon Sutton’s, so she would struggle with her conscience and feel guilty toward Vincent Rhodes.

It was the aspect of her that pained him the most.

But no matter how he looked at it, having this child was like having a stabilizing presence; at least she wouldn’t be taken away by another man.

"...Have you finished eating? Do you want more?"

From outside the door came her voice, and his response echoed inside the room: "Another bowl, please."

Even knowing such days were destined to be brief, he was still content with this fleeting happiness.

He wished he could be an ordinary person, spending the rest of his life with her in a simple and steady way.

A little past nine in the morning, Simon Rhodes brought the doctor over again.

Shannon Quinn instinctively didn’t go into the room, staying in the living room instead.

Soon, she saw the doctor come out while Simon Rhodes remained in the room.

The doctor gave her a few boxes of medicine, instructed her on the dosage and usage, and then left first.

Half a day passed without her seeing Simon Rhodes come out; she tiptoed to the edge of the room door, bent down, and pressed her ear against it.

She could only hear voices inside the room but couldn’t make out what was being said.

"Do you know how dangerous last night was?" Simon Rhodes helped Vincent Rhodes put on his clothes, his tone somewhat stern.

Vincent Rhodes extended his hands to cooperate in putting on the clothes, saying nothing, knowing he was at fault.

"Let’s not even talk about why you came looking for Shannon; with injuries like that, refusing to let your people take you to the hospital, and driving yourself here, do you have a death wish?!"

"Being here is better than being in the hospital."

"You never used to be like this; lately, your actions are getting increasingly reckless!"

"Bro, just say less."

"Say less? I didn’t tell Grandfather about this; if he found out, you’d be in even more trouble!"

Yesterday, while working during the day, he received news of Shannon Quinn’s pregnancy.

After getting injured, he even thought he was dying; in that moment, he was desperate to see Shannon Quinn, thinking about it in his mind and acting on it in reality.

He used to be unafraid of death, but after marrying her, he became fearful.

He feared that before he could survive, he would lose the chance to spend his life with her.

"I’ve told you before, it’s a special time now; try to visit Shannon less, the more you meet, the more likely flaws will appear, and when that happens..."

"She’s pregnant," Vincent Rhodes interrupted Simon Rhodes’s rambling with a single sentence.

Simon Rhodes was noticeably shocked by this news, incredulously asking, "What?"

Vincent Rhodes casually added, "It’s mine."

Simon Rhodes sighed helplessly, "You really know how to create trouble."

"To be precise, it’s Landon Sutton’s."

"Things are so complicated now; I wonder how you plan to explain it to her later."

"I don’t have much vacation time left, so I’ll have to trouble you to look after her a bit more, keep her company for me."

"You didn’t need to say it; I already know, but I’m not sure how to manage Grandfather."

"In any case, it’s his great-grandchild; he won’t do anything to Shannon."

"Let’s hope so. You rest well; I’ll come by later."

Vincent Rhodes, however, declined Simon Rhodes’s kind offer, saying, "No need to run back and forth; Shannon being here is enough."

"Afraid I’ll disturb your little world?"

Vincent Rhodes unceremoniously agreed with a "mm," causing Simon Rhodes to chuckle, though after laughter, his eyes darkened, "Alright, enjoy these days as much as you can."

Shannon Quinn hadn’t heard anything and instead heard footsteps approaching the door, prompting her to quickly stand up straight and scamper into her room, then turn around pretending she had just walked out, looking at Simon Rhodes emerging from the opposite room, forced a laugh, and said, "Big Brother..."

Simon Rhodes looked at Shannon Quinn, also smiled, and said gently, "His condition has almost stabilized; don’t worry too much, the wound might take a few more days to heal, so these days require a bit more care."

"Of course."

"The medicine... Dr. Ward gave it to you, right?"

"Yes, he did."

"Mm, just remember to apply it to him on time; I have to go on a business trip for a few days, so I might not be able to come over temporarily. If you need anything, call my assistant; he’ll stay around."

"Alright, thank you, Big Brother."

Simon Rhodes couldn’t help but glance at Shannon Quinn’s flat belly, then added before leaving, "Take care of yourself too, want me to hire a nanny?"

"No need, no need."

Simon Rhodes thought having a nanny over would make Vincent Rhodes hate him, so he dismissed the idea, gave Shannon Quinn a few reminders like an elder, and then left.

After seeing Simon Rhodes off, it was nearly ten o’clock.

Ordinarily, just by herself, she wouldn’t rush to make lunch; ordering takeout would be fine, but now with someone else, it was different.

Sometimes she found cooking troublesome; she rarely cooked at home, mostly just making breakfast, so the fridge didn’t have much in it.

She went back to her room, changed clothes, and knocked on Vincent Rhodes’s room door, saying, "I’m going downstairs to buy some groceries. If you need anything, just give me a call."

It seemed she heard him say "mm," although perhaps she didn’t, but knowing he surely heard her, Shannon Quinn changed her shoes and left.

Standing outside the door, she couldn’t help but glance at the neighbor’s door, wondering if Landon Sutton was back from his business trip, as she hadn’t told him about the cat yet. Once he returned, she would bring his cat back.

Going downstairs to the nearby supermarket, she looked up ingredients for replenishing blood on her phone, filling a shopping cart with various items.

Thankfully, she drove there, or she might not have managed to bring everything back.
