CHAPTER 457: CHAPTER 457: I’LL BE GOOD FROM NOW ON

Looking at Rowan Alder searching the room for her so-called "baby" to no avail, she suddenly stopped, her expression filled with anxiety. She turned to Shaw, murmuring, "I remember now. I remember where the baby went."

She slowly approached him, her face gradually becoming distorted with rage, "The baby was taken away by you... you took him away."

She suddenly lunged forward, grabbing Shaw’s neck with both hands, her teeth bared, "Give me back the baby! Give me back the baby! I want to perish with you!"

Shaw took a deep breath, easily pushing her away. He watched as she fell weakly to the ground and began to sob softly, apologizing as she crawled over to hug Shaw’s leg, pleading, "I’m sorry... I’m sorry, it’s my fault. Shaw, could you bring the baby back? Please don’t leave me. I’ll do whatever you say. I’ll be good from now on. I’ll listen to you. I’ll never make you angry again."

Shaw exhaled deeply with his eyes closed, unable to bear seeing her in such a state. He reached out to help her up from the ground, wiping the tears from her face. He spoke in a cold yet somewhat gentle tone, "Will you really listen?"

She nodded vigorously, but Shaw was well aware that something was very wrong with her.

He went to the wardrobe and took out a long down jacket to put on her. He then gathered a pair of shoes from the messy room and gently helped her put them on before taking her out the door.

She sat in the car, talking to herself, alternating between crying and laughing, asking him if he was taking her to see the baby.

Shaw remained silent throughout the journey. Eventually, she merely stared blankly out the window, intermittently humming the lullabies he played for the child every night.

He checked her into a psychiatric hospital. She did not resist or reject it; she just obediently said she would listen to him.

Shaw found a reliable doctor to take care of her and discussed her current condition before preparing to leave.

She was reluctant to see him go but didn’t dare to make a scene. She pitifully asked him when he’d come to see her and when he’d take her back home.

Shaw patted her head, his voice a little hoarse as he said, "As long as you behave, I’ll come back to see you soon."

The doctor and Shaw exchanged a glance, then gently coaxed Rowan Alder, "It’s too cold outside. Let’s go back to the room."

Rowan Alder stood still, constantly looking at Shaw.

Shaw simply said, "Behave," and she finally followed the doctor back to the ward.

Leaving the hospital, Shaw felt indescribable. He had never imagined that one day he’d be admitting the woman he once loved dearly into a mental institution.

...

The wedding of Simon Rhodes and Skylar Vance was held as scheduled. It was a nice day, chosen for its fair weather, with the warm winter sun and the fragrance of plum blossoms.

Skylar wanted an outdoor wedding, but due to the cold weather, Simon chose a relatively warm church instead. However, he promised her that once the baby was born and the weather improved, they would go take wedding photos outdoors.

The wedding had a small audience; Skylar hadn’t informed her family, with only her beloved sister, Claire Wilde, present. The rest were relatives of the Rhodes Family and some friends from both sides.

Although public opinion about the two of them had shifted due to something Shaw had said, neither of them wanted to cause any more waves, preferring a peaceful life.

It was Skylar’s second marriage, but her mindset was completely different this time.

Walking arm in arm with him down the long red carpet, she was confident they could journey through life together.

At the moment when the cold ring slipped on her ring finger, her heart felt just a little warmer.

Watching the couple, who had come together after so much effort, kiss amidst applause and blessings from the guests, Shannon Quinn clapped and wiped away tears simultaneously.

Landon Sutton glanced sideways at her, "Why are you crying? Jealous?"

Shannon, eyes reddened, retorted, "I’m moved, alright?"

"He’s my brother, yet I’m not as moved as you are. What are you getting all emotional for?" he said, offering a handkerchief from his chest pocket to wipe her tears.

If he hadn’t been wiping her tears, Shannon would have surely scolded him.

Ronan Rhodes attended the wedding, sitting alone at a side seat. Upon arrival, he exchanged a few words with Landon Sutton before mostly keeping to himself.

The biggest difference from before was probably that he no longer loved to smile.

Erin Bishop, unfortunately, couldn’t make it; she slipped at home a few days earlier and was still in the hospital, though thankfully the baby was fine.

Shannon Quinn also noted that Iris Wilde was present at the wedding, but Julian Yardley was absent.

Based on their past relationship, they’d always attend such events together as a couple.

Even if Skylar didn’t specifically invite Julian Yardley, Iris would undoubtedly drag him along.

But today, Iris was there alone, and she seemed disinterested.

So after the ceremony concluded, Shannon Quinn approached Iris, placing a small plate of pastries in front of her.

"Shannon?" Iris smiled warmly upon seeing Shannon.

Shannon sat across from her and asked, "Why are you here alone? Where’s Julian?"

In the past, whenever Julian was mentioned, Iris would get all excited. But today, her smile faded, and she mumbled, "We broke up."

Shannon couldn’t believe it, "What happened? Did you guys have a fight? Tell me, and I’ll give that kid a good talking to."

Iris shook her head, "I don’t think I’ll have the chance to call you ’sister’ anymore."

"Is it because you’re going abroad to study? It’s not a big deal. You can’t break up over a long-distance relationship, can you?"

Iris shook her head again, "I decided to study abroad after we broke up. The farther I go, the quicker I can forget."

Shannon was more confused than ever. She had always believed that Julian and Iris were a couple who could last.

Although they constantly bickered, their hearts were always with each other.

She never thought they’d end up breaking up.

Shannon tentatively asked, "Did he treat you badly, or did he cheat on you?"

Iris sighed, "I don’t know, but I feel like he doesn’t care about me anymore. I’ve seriously thought about it; I’m still young and should focus on my studies and career. I don’t want to be troubled by these petty issues anymore."

Shannon thought about it and agreed that a girl shouldn’t let love impede her progress. She nodded, "Yes, focus on your studies. Studying abroad is a good opportunity. Regardless of the breakup, if you have the chance, go out and see the world. I support you."

Though she said that, Shannon still felt she should find some time to meet Julian Yardley and clear things up.

They shouldn’t let misunderstandings ruin this love.
