CHAPTER 461: CHAPTER 461: IS SHE PREGNANT?

"Pull over to the side."

Halfway through driving, Shannon Quinn clutched her chest and said with a frown.

Landon Sutton slowed down and pulled over, asking her, "What’s wrong?"

Shannon didn’t say a word, unbuckled her seatbelt, and hurriedly pushed open the car door to get out.

Landon followed quickly, watching her squatting by the roadside, dry heaving.

He, a big man, was even more sensitive than Shannon Quinn. As he patted her back, he asked, "Could you be pregnant?"

There was a careful probing in his tone, along with undisguisable joy.

Once Shannon caught her breath, she took the bottled water he handed her to rinse her mouth, stood up, and after thinking for a few seconds said, "Now that you mention it, my period seems to have been late for a few days."

Landon’s face immediately lit up with a smile: "Let’s go to the hospital."

The two of them hurriedly skipped lunch, but fortunately, Landon had a "green channel" that saved them the waiting time for results.

Although this wasn’t his first time hearing a doctor tell him he’d be a dad, his inner excitement was undiminished from that moment.

The last child was a regret for them, something that perhaps Landon Sutton could never fully come to terms with.

Shannon Quinn also hoped that this child’s arrival would allow him some peace.

When Shannon was pregnant with the first child, Landon had already accumulated a lot of experience in taking care of a pregnant woman, so he didn’t need to bombard the doctor with questions.

But Shannon knew she was likely to lose her freedom like her two sisters.

Looks like she’ll need to take up cross-stitching for a hobby.

After the checkup, while they were dining at the restaurant, Landon said, "I might be busy at the company for the next few days. I’ll ask Mrs. Morgan to come take care of you."

Shannon hastily rejected: "No need, you men all think alike, that pregnant women need to be overly cared for. But they’re not as delicate as you think. Besides, I’m not showing yet, it won’t affect my daily life, and my mom will be here tomorrow; she’ll take care of me. Do your work as usual, don’t go working overtime just to free up more time, if you fall ill, I’ll have to take care of you."

Hearing Catherine Yardley was coming, Landon nodded with relief: "As long as mom’s here, it’s fine."

"Just make sure you take Leo to and from school every day, I don’t need you to worry about me right now."

Landon replied without hesitation: "He’s six or seven now; does he really need to be picked up every day?"

Shannon rolled her eyes: "Just because he’s grown doesn’t mean he’s not your son anymore, right? If you don’t pick him up, then I will."

Landon said, "I’ll take him, I never said I wouldn’t. You stay home and take care of yourself."

Shannon: "Let me warn you, Leo may be the older brother, but he’s still a child. Once this one’s born, you can’t favor the new baby over him. Leo is considerate and understanding, but you can’t just rely on that and ignore his feelings. Children are very sensitive; even the slightest neglect can be felt, even if they don’t say anything."

Landon: "Is that a hint that I’m treating him poorly? Did that kid come to you to complain?"

Shannon: "I’m just reminding you to be mindful of this in the future, don’t always use Leo being the older brother as an excuse."

Landon, unbothered, continued to serve Shannon food while saying: "My son isn’t as petty as you think."

Shannon believed dearly that Leo would be a great older brother, as he always wanted a sister.

But she couldn’t guarantee the baby inside her was indeed a girl. If it’s another boy, who knows if the two siblings would get along.

However, seeing Landon and Simon Rhodes’s brotherly bond, helping each other as they grew, even if it’s another brother, Leo should still be able to be a good brother.

As the days got colder, Leo started his winter break.

The child seemed to be heavily influenced by Landon’s education, caring for Shannon almost as vividly as his dad.

Even while engrossed with his favorite cartoons in the living room, Leo would immediately ask if Shannon needed anything whenever she made a move.

Any task within his ability, he’d eagerly step up to help Shannon with it.

Comparing this to when she had Leo, the happiness was so much she almost didn’t know how to handle it.

When there was nothing to do, Leo would dig out his old storybooks and, with his innocent and earnest voice, tell stories to his so-called "sister."

Now with all this focus on a "sister," Shannon was worried that if she ended up having a boy, both father and son would be disappointed.

Though Landon wished for a daughter, he wouldn’t treat another son any differently; however, Shannon knew she’d have to try again.

"Finn Quinn, come in and serve the dishes." Landon called out from the kitchen.

Leo immediately put down the remote with delight and scampered over.

"Dad, when will the sister come out to play with me?" Leo asked as he carried the dish towards Landon.

"When you have your next summer break."

Leo paused, glanced outside the kitchen, then asked in a quiet, earnest voice: "Dad, is mom’s tummy carrying the same sister from before?"

Landon’s hand stopped momentarily, glanced down at Leo, and only said: "Hurry and carry the dish out, don’t spill the soup!"

Leo wasn’t sure if he’d asked something he shouldn’t have, wisely choosing not to speak further, obediently taking the dish to the table.

That night, Shannon emerged from the bathroom after her bath and saw Landon standing outside on the balcony, smoking.

Since they started trying for another baby, he’d been smoking less.

She wasn’t sure if he’d smoked at work, but at home, she hadn’t seen him smoke for a while.

Sensing something was off, Shannon draped a coat over her shoulders and approached him, quietly asking, "What’s wrong? Work trouble?"

Landon looked at her briefly, hastily stubbed out the cigarette in his hand, and said, "Why are you out here in the cold? Go back to the room."

"Seeing you smoke, I found it strange."

Landon smiled, "I had a craving, sorry about that. You head in first, the smoke will clear soon and I’ll come inside."

But Shannon eyed him skeptically, saying, "You’re not someone lacking self-control, you’re definitely hiding something from me."

"Be good, go inside first, we’ll talk later."

The chill was indeed creeping in from outside. Shannon snugged her coat tighter, glanced at the cigarette in his hand, contemplating telling him to stop smoking. She paused a moment, then said softly, "Finish that half, come in once the smoke clears."

Landon was taken aback, but soon nodded at her with a smile.

She soon returned to the room, only to come out shortly after, surprising him by draping a small, fuzzy blanket over his shoulders before calmly turning around and heading back inside.

Landon chuckled, looked at the half-smoked cigarette in his hand, crushed it between his fingers, and tossed it into the ashtray on the small round table.
