My Mysterious Hidden Husband
Chapter 54: Living as a Grass Widow
CHAPTER 54: CHAPTER 54: LIVING AS A GRASS WIDOW
"Did you call the police?"
"Yes." Shannon Quinn stepped aside to let the officer in.
"What happened? Drunken troublemaking?" The officer who entered had a somewhat casual attitude, clearly not taking the situation too seriously.
Shannon Quinn pressed her lips together and said, "Yeah, just now..."
"Master Nate?!" Before Shannon Quinn could finish, another young officer came in and saw Landon Sutton on the sofa, sounding a bit surprised.
The leading officer initially seemed lazy, but upon turning his head to see Landon Sutton, his eyes lit up and he ignored Shannon Quinn, walking straight towards Landon.
Landon Sutton stood and said, "Take him back to the station and investigate if he’s committed any other offenses."
The officer glanced at Jett Quinn, who was sitting on the ground with his hands and feet tied, frowned impatiently, and said, "Why is it always you, kid? Released from a fight just yesterday, and now causing trouble again tonight!"
"Why not keep him locked up for a few days?" Landon Sutton checked the small cut on his hand and asked casually.
"Oh, this is the young master of the Quinn Family, his parents smoothed things over at the station."
Landon Sutton fell silent for a moment, then said again, "Take him away."
"Yes, yes, why are you all standing around? Hurry up."
With Landon Sutton present, things suddenly became easier. The officers quickly took Jett Quinn away, apologizing continuously to Landon Sutton as they left, advising him to rest early.
It was clear that both the political and business worlds had to show Landon Sutton respect, and judging by how he handled Jett Quinn earlier, he seemed professionally trained in takedown techniques.
"It’s over now, get some rest."
Shannon Quinn escorted Landon Sutton to the door, feeling a bit embarrassed. She hesitated for a moment before saying, "...Thank you."
After all, before tonight, including their encounter at the party, she hadn’t treated him nicely. Without him tonight, who knows how things might have turned out.
Landon Sutton merely smiled, then glanced at the mess in the living room and said, "Sorry for the chaos in your house."
"It’s okay, I’ll clean it up."
Seeing Shannon Quinn’s change in attitude towards him, Landon Sutton was secretly pleased, but his face was somewhat pale.
"Is the injury on your face... alright?"
Landon Sutton smiled lightly and shook his head. "It’s just a minor wound; I’ll head back. Call me if anything happens."
"Okay, sorry to bother you."
Landon Sutton shook his head, intending to ask Shannon Quinn something, but pain from his reopened abdominal wound made it hard for him to speak.
As he turned away, Shannon Quinn seemed to notice blood on his white shirt. She opened her mouth to ask, but he took two steps back to his room, closing the door.
Did she see it wrong? Perhaps it was Jett Quinn’s blood?
But Jett only had minor injuries, no visible bleeding. Just now, Landon Sutton had been dominant, and she hadn’t seen his hand injured.
Was she seeing things?
"What? Hero saved the damsel in distress and you’re moved?" Erin Bishop walked over, following Shannon Quinn’s gaze to the closed door beside, teasing.
Shannon Quinn snapped back, closed the door, and said, "Moved by what? Help tidy up the place."
"Oh dear, I’m still feeling unwell."
"Really unwell or pretending? Need to see a doctor?"
Erin Bishop laughed, "I wasn’t unwell at first, but when you asked me to clean, that’s when it started."
Shannon Quinn shot her a look, bent down in the living room to pick up fruit scattered on the floor and put it back in the fruit bowl.
Erin Bishop helped pick them up, saying, "I truly think Landon Sutton is great. In tonight’s situation, anyone else might not have wanted to help, but he took care of that jerk so decisively. It was satisfying to watch."
"Stop it. I’m married."
"Oh, your meaning is, if you weren’t married, you’d really get together with Landon Sutton."
"Stop teasing me!"
Honestly, tonight she found a sense of safety from Landon Sutton that she hadn’t felt in a long time.
When she was young and was bullied by Jett Quinn, all she felt was fear and quiet endurance, because back then, she couldn’t find anyone to help her. No matter how much grievance or fear, she could only keep it to herself.
Tonight, for a moment, she felt like she was back to ten years ago, the helplessness and panic made her lose her composure.
When Erin Bishop called the police, she didn’t know why her first instinct was to find Landon Sutton for help.
This sense of safety, possibly Vincent Rhodes couldn’t provide.
"Shannon, you’re married but living like you’re forever single. Do you really plan to live like this forever?"
Shannon Quinn gazed silently. In the past, she always felt living alone was good enough, but gradually found many things were beyond her capacity.
If she weren’t pregnant, she might not have so many worries, but now with a child in her belly and Jett Quinn returning, she wishes for a complete husband. Not necessarily like Landon Sutton with his skills, but at least someone who could stand up for her, holding Jett Quinn in check, sheltering her in danger...
Even if she safely gives birth to the child, it’s still growing up in an incomplete family. Who doesn’t want to give their child a complete family and a good environment?
"What can I do? Just take it one day at a time."
"Did Vincent find you lately?"
"Rarely, only a few times this period, but he’s always gone without a trace, and I don’t understand his affairs at all."
"Hey, don’t think too much about it now. Focus on having your child first. If Vincent won’t take care of you and the baby, I will!"
Shannon Quinn smiled. In over twenty years of life, Erin Bishop was her first truly close friend.
In the adjacent room.
Ronan Rhodes arrived with a private doctor, seeing Landon Sutton rebandaging his wound, said worriedly, "I say, Master Nate, you’re too careless with your body. Tonight’s the second time already, and if the wound gets infected, it’ll be hard to heal."
Landon Sutton merely furrowed his brows, the wound pain made him clench his teeth without making any sound or responding to Ronan.
"Master Nate, are you deliberately using injury tactics for that woman? There are so many ways to chase girls. If you don’t know, ask me. Why put yourself through this?"
"Leave, you’re noisy."
"Master Nate, I’m concerned about you!"
