My Mysterious Hidden Husband
Chapter 63: Living Life with Vincent
CHAPTER 63: CHAPTER 63: LIVING LIFE WITH VINCENT
Shannon Quinn always knew Simon Rhodes and Landon Sutton had a good relationship, but she never expected it to be this close.
On the phone, he only asked one question about Shannon Quinn; the rest was almost entirely about Landon Sutton.
It gave Shannon Quinn an illusion that maybe Landon Sutton was the real sister-in-law, and they were the real family.
In less than ten minutes, Simon Rhodes drove to the hospital, obviously rushing over, as he was still catching his breath when he arrived.
As soon as he arrived, he asked, "Still in the operating room?"
Shannon Quinn stood up and looked at him, nodding.
Simon Rhodes seemed to realize something, then asked Shannon Quinn, "Are you okay?"
"I’m fine."
"As long as you’re fine, it’s late, you should go back and rest."
"He should be out soon."
Simon Rhodes hesitated, then glanced at Ronan Rhodes standing nearby, and went over to inquire about Landon Sutton’s situation.
Even Erin Bishop was puzzled, asking, "Isn’t that Simon Rhodes? Your elder brother-in-law? Why does it feel like he’s a relative of Landon Sutton?"
"They have a good relationship, they’re often seen together at gatherings and such."
Erin Bishop looked at Simon Rhodes incredulously and quietly speculated, "Could it be they’re... something like that? You never hear about messy scandals with women from either of them, for people of their status, that’s not normal."
"No way, right? Doesn’t my brother have June Yardley?"
"But he also hasn’t married her, has he? Maybe he’s just casually using a woman to fool the family?"
"I don’t think so. They’re just regular friends, right?"
Shannon Quinn couldn’t imagine certain scenarios between Simon Rhodes and Landon Sutton, just the thought of it gave her goosebumps.
Moreover, Landon Sutton was still lying in the operating room, it felt wrong to conjure up such unrealistic thoughts right now.
The corridor was relatively quiet, so when the door of the operating room opened, everyone’s gaze shifted over, and they all stood up and approached.
Only one doctor came out, removed their mask, and asked them, "Are you all family members of Mr. Landon Sutton?"
Clearly, none of them were, but they all nodded, listening to the doctor say, "The patient’s condition is generally stable now, but the recovery of the left leg may take some time. He’s been transferred to the ward, you can wait over at the surgery elevator; the attending physician will explain the details."
Upon hearing that, everyone immediately walked towards the surgical elevator, just as healthcare personnel were pushing Landon Sutton into the elevator.
He lay on the hospital bed, face pale, entirely unlike his usual charismatic self, making one feel quite sorry for him.
The doctor said, "It’s mostly external injuries; the most serious is the left leg. If it recovers well, he can live normally, but if not, he might spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair. During the recovery period, you must follow the doctor’s instructions and take good care of him. Other than that, there’s nothing major, just leave someone here to stay overnight, when the anesthesia wears off he should wake up, call us then."
After speaking, the doctor left the ward.
Ronan Rhodes said, "You all go home, I’ll stay here."
Before Shannon Quinn and Erin Bishop could speak, Simon Rhodes turned and looked at Shannon Quinn, saying, "Let’s go, I’ll drive you home."
Without seeing Landon Sutton wake up, Shannon Quinn seemed reluctant to leave, so Simon Rhodes said, "If you feel guilty about him, bring him breakfast tomorrow morning, he probably won’t wake up for a while, rest well and come by early tomorrow."
Seeing Landon Sutton’s family hadn’t shown up, chances were she’d be the only one bringing food. That way, maybe she could lessen her guilt towards Landon Sutton.
Leaving the hospital, the rain had lightened a bit.
Simon Rhodes arranged to drive Shannon Quinn home, seeming to have something he wanted to talk about with her, while Erin Bishop drove off alone.
In the car, Shannon Quinn sat in the passenger seat, fastening her seatbelt.
Simon Rhodes started the car, turned around, and asked, glancing sideways at Shannon Quinn, "How did you end up with Landon Sutton?"
Shannon Quinn stiffened, thinking that no matter how good Simon Rhodes and Landon Sutton’s relationship was, it couldn’t compare to Vincent Rhodes; Vincent was Simon’s own brother.
Feeling nervous, she swallowed, explaining, "Mr. Sutton has an exhibit design project he wants to collaborate on, he asked me to meet to discuss work."
Afraid Simon Rhodes wouldn’t believe her, but he didn’t seem to be concerned with that, he paused for two seconds, his eyes on the road ahead, and asked her, "Are you... pregnant?"
Shannon Quinn was startled, turning her head to look at Simon Rhodes. Not sure whether to admit it, Simon Rhodes continued, "Vincent told me."
"I assume you’ve already discussed these matters with Vincent, so I won’t say much. Vincent can’t be by your side all the time, you need to take care of yourself and the baby in your womb, settle down with Vincent, he won’t mistreat you."
His last words seemed to misunderstand her relationship with Landon Sutton, subtly reminding her to not cross lines.
Simon Rhodes, as the eldest brother, had always been more partial to her. Shannon Quinn knew his words were for the well-being of her and Vincent.
If she really had something going on with Landon Sutton, it would bring shame to the Rhodes Family, and she wouldn’t be able to stay there anymore, ending up with the stigma of a loose woman, possibly affecting the innocent child in the future.
"Big brother... where is Vincent?"
Simon Rhodes paused before answering, "It’s not convenient to tell you now, he’ll explain himself to you in the future."
Shannon Quinn was puzzled, "What is he doing exactly? Why was he so badly hurt last time?"
"His injuries are almost healed, you don’t have to worry."
Evasive answer. Shannon Quinn knew she wouldn’t get more information, so she dropped her curiosity, turned to look outside the window, and stayed silent.
The car arrived downstairs, Simon Rhodes got out to hold the umbrella for her, and before going up, he said, "This time Landon Sutton got hurt saving you, it’s like we owe him a favor. You can visit him more at the hospital over the next few days if you have time."
Shannon Quinn looked at him, her expression puzzled.
He was the one who reminded her to keep her distance from Landon Sutton, and now he was encouraging her to visit Landon Sutton more.
Then she thought, maybe Simon Rhodes just felt that a debt of gratitude should be repaid, that Landon was injured for her, it would be normal to show a bit more care during this period.
Without asking further, Shannon Quinn just replied with an "Oh."
"Go on up and rest early."
"Thank you, big brother."
"Oh, by the way, I heard someone came to your house causing trouble before?" Simon Rhodes paused then continued, "I’ve already instructed the security at the entrance, that person won’t get in, so you don’t have to worry."
