My Mysterious Hidden Husband
Chapter 65: Alone and Forsaken
CHAPTER 65: CHAPTER 65: ALONE AND FORSAKEN
"Shannon’s pregnancy can’t be hidden from Grandpa forever. Are you going to explain it to him yourself, or should I do it when the time comes?"
Landon Sutton paused for a moment and said, "We’ll deal with it when he asks. Actually, I want Shannon to leave here first, have the baby, and then come back."
"Are you worried... that Grandpa won’t agree to her having the baby now?"
"Yes."
Simon Rhodes thought seriously for a moment and said, "But Shannon has been living here for so long, her work is here too. Where do you want her to go? Besides, without a proper reason, she likely won’t agree to leave just like that. When Grandpa asks, just tell him the truth. The child in Shannon’s belly is the Rhodes Family’s blood, Grandpa shouldn’t make things difficult for Shannon."
"I hope so." Landon Sutton picked up the cup from the bedside, took a sip of warm water, smiled and said, "Bro, you’re not young anymore, aren’t you planning to get married?"
"We’ll talk about it when you come back."
"June..."
"Don’t mention her. Grandpa has already driven her away. Her private life is quite a mess, and it seems photos have been sent to Grandpa. She hasn’t been to the Rhodes Family recently."
Upon hearing this, Landon Sutton said calmly, "Yeah, I arranged for the photos to be sent."
"You?"
"Since you said you’re not interested in her, it’s better to get rid of her from the Rhodes Family than let her bully Shannon. It’ll save you some trouble."
"This woman is not easy to deal with. When provoked, she might do anything. I’m afraid she’ll harm Shannon."
"As long as she doesn’t want to die, she won’t dare touch Shannon for now. Also, before I go back, I want to send that Quinn Family’s young man to jail. I’ll need your help with that."
"What do you plan to do?"
Landon Sutton seemed to have a plan, but he only told Simon Rhodes, "When the time comes, you just need to suppress the Quinn Family and don’t let them slip through."
"You better not act recklessly."
"I know what I’m doing."
The next day, the rain stopped.
Shannon Quinn got up early and made porridge, put it in a thermos, and headed straight to the hospital.
She contacted Ronan Rhodes upon waking up and learned that Landon Sutton had come to last night. This allowed Shannon to ease her mind a bit.
If he had become disabled or a vegetable due to this incident, wouldn’t she have to care for him forever?
She paused for a moment at the door of the hospital room; the door was ajar, and it was quiet with no sound inside.
She gently pushed the door open, peeked inside, only to see him alone lying on the hospital bed.
Not sure if he was still sleeping, Shannon tiptoed into the room, making almost no noise, but with Landon Sutton’s acute alertness, he opened his eyes as soon as she took a few steps, turning his head to look at the woman creeping in.
The vigilance in his eyes flashed briefly upon seeing her, clearly relaxing a lot.
"...You’re awake?"
Landon Sutton just looked at her without speaking.
Feeling increasingly awkward, Shannon placed the thermos at the bedside, her smile a bit stiff, "You probably haven’t had breakfast, right? I made some porridge for you... it’s best to eat it while it’s hot."
Landon Sutton turned his head and looked, then raised one hand.
Seeing his hand hovering in the air, Shannon thought he wanted something, glanced around, then heard him say, "Help me sit up."
She suddenly realized and went over without hesitation, supporting his arm to help him sit up leaning against the bed, and worriedly asked, "Did the doctor say you can sit up?"
"Aren’t I sitting up already?"
Unable to refute, Shannon quickly set up the tray on the bed’s railing and handed the porridge and spoon to him.
"Did you make it?"
"...Yes."
He took a spoonful to eat, and Shannon worried it might not suit his taste. Seeing him silently take another spoonful finally allowed her to relax a bit.
"Why are you here all alone?"
"Ronan went downstairs to pay the fees."
Shannon pursed her lips, turned around, and sat on the chair beside the bed, glanced at him, and tentatively asked, "Where’s your family?"
As soon as she spoke, she noticed his eating paused a bit, thinking she might have asked the wrong question, but he continued to have another sip of porridge before saying, "A lonely person, having a bowl of hot porridge is nice enough."
Sensing there’s a story there, Shannon didn’t dare ask further, not knowing how to comfort him, so chose silence.
A while later, Ronan, who had paid the fees, returned, bringing two men in police uniforms. Originally wanting to say something, but upon seeing Shannon in the room, he quickly changed the topic, "Miss Quinn, you’re here early?"
Shannon smiled, smartly stood up and said, "I just brought some porridge over. You guys talk, I’ll go outside and take a look."
As she walked out, she closed the door behind her. Only then did Ronan speak, "Master Nate, the investigation results are out."
Landon Sutton kept his head down, finished his porridge, reached out, and Ronan promptly handed over a tissue. After wiping his mouth, Landon looked at the police and asked, "What did you find out?"
"We suspect someone is behind him, but he refuses to confess. He claims he has a terminal illness and wants to take revenge on society, crashing into whoever he can."
"Is it a real illness or fake?"
"There are diagnosis records, late-stage liver cancer."
Landon Sutton paused for a half-second, calmly said, "Continue the investigation: what family does he have, who he socializes with, recent bank transfer records, call logs, check them all."
"Sure, I’ll get on it right away."
"Then we’ll leave you to rest, Mr. Sutton. We wish you a speedy recovery. If there’s any new development, we’ll inform you right away."
"Okay, much appreciated."
After the police left, Ronan, while tidying up the tableware, said, "Could it be a paid murder attempt? But who would dare target you, Master Nate?"
"If I died, he’d be lucky. If not... it’s his misfortune."
"Don’t say such ominous things in the morning, Master Nate. With your luck, nothing will happen to you. If we find out who orchestrated this, I won’t let him get away!"
Landon Sutton glanced at him and changed the topic, "Let her come in."
Realizing who he meant, Ronan sighed while walking to the door and muttered, "Beauty has brought trouble for ages."
"Miss Quinn? You can come in now."
Shannon gave Ronan an awkward smile, nodded, and walked in. Seeing Landon had finished eating, she didn’t have a reason to stay nor did she want to, so she went over to pack up the thermos and said, "If there’s nothing else, I’ll head back. Do you need me to bring lunch over?"
Landon didn’t answer directly but asked, "Do you think I need to eat lunch?"
Not knowing what tone Landon was using, but feeling she owed him, Shannon resignedly said, "Then I’ll come over at noon."
