CHAPTER 74: CHAPTER 74: FUTURE SISTER-IN-LAW

Shannon Quinn’s worry came to pass.

She turned to look at Erin Bishop standing beside her, eagerly awaiting the return of her first love, hoping she could throw herself into his arms and question why he left back then, and tell him all the grievances she had accumulated over the years...

But now, her eyes rimmed red, afraid to let tears fall, blurring her vision of loss and despair.

Beneath the sunglasses, her eyes had already spotted the girl standing next to Ronan Rhodes before he waved, yet behind the disguise of the sunglasses, no one noticed the turmoil in those eyes.

"...Shannon, I’m leaving." Erin Bishop said, already pushing through the crowd to leave as if running away.

Shannon Quinn hurried to follow her, understanding Erin’s feelings at this moment.

Her reluctance and longing might seem merely a worthless burden to others, afraid of baring a sincere heart only to be mocked, thus fleeing before the other person sees her, as though this could hide her humility and pretend she too had long forgotten him.

Ronan Rhodes stood and watched the backs of the two departing, then looked at Zane Rhodes nearing the passage exit, unsure whether to pursue or remain, pondering since Shannon Quinn was with Erin Bishop, he couldn’t just leave after specially coming to pick him up.

Seeing Zane Rhodes brought back a woman, Ronan was somewhat surprised, scrutinizing her with several glances, yet he did not dare bring up Erin Bishop, thinking that their private matters were best left to them.

"Brother, you’re finally back." Ronan approached to greet him and then eyed the girl beside him, asking, "Brother, who is this..."

"A friend." Zane casually said just two words.

The girl holding his arm smiled and added, "Girlfriend. You’re Zane’s brother? My name is Zoe Whitman, you can call me Rose."

Ronan was worldly, knowing small talk: "So you’re the future sister-in-law, truly beautiful."

"Sister-in-law, let me take the suitcase. The car is waiting outside, you can just follow me."

Ronan took the suitcase from Zoe Whitman, walking ahead to lead the way, while his eyes sought Erin Bishop’s figure in the crowd.

Originally happily bringing someone along, yet unexpectedly causing such an awkward situation, but as Zane’s own brother, he never mentioned having a girlfriend.

He considered Zane a close brother, Zane might have viewed him as a cousin.

"Zane, I really like it here, let me stay for good, plus there’s someone to take care of you, isn’t there?"

Zane’s tone remained indifferent: "At most a month, if you don’t go back, Auntie will come fetch you."

"No way, if I go back, you have to come with me, otherwise whoever comes to get me won’t work!"

Zane said nothing more, showing little enthusiasm for Zoe Whitman, perhaps because his nature was inherently cool.

Ronan faintly overheard their conversation, imagining his mature, steady brother would choose a knowledgeable and gentle woman, surprised to find it’s a capricious young lady.

He himself didn’t want to serve such temperamental women, thinking someone with Erin Bishop’s straightforward nature suited his brother better than the woman before him.

But that was his personal opinion, as Zane had to live with her, he couldn’t interfere with others’ decisions and preferences.

Once in the car, Ronan had planned many topics for catching up with his brother, but Zoe Whitman kept chatting incessantly, Zane scarcely responding, yet she never paused, posing frivolous questions that no one wanted to answer.

Let alone Zane, who had been on a plane for over ten hours, feeling fatigued, even Ronan found it tiring.

But since she was technically his sister-in-law, he couldn’t tell her to silence, enduring the chatter until dropping the pair off at their accommodation.

"Brother, you and I are in the same building, living upstairs from me. The room has been prepared days ago, you can go up and settle in. But I wasn’t expecting sister-in-law to come back, so I only arranged toiletries for one person. I’ll have someone send another set later."

Zane hadn’t replied when Zoe Whitman said, "No need, I’ll personally buy my own toiletries to feel secure, I’ll have Zane accompany me to the supermarket later."

"Well... Miss York, considering you and my brother have traveled so long, why not wash up and rest soon?"

"It’s okay, I’m not tired. Zane probably napped on the plane, he won’t be sleepy. Just help us carry our luggage upstairs, and don’t worry about the rest."

Ronan laughed dryly, imagining being treated as a servant.?

After retrieving the luggage from the trunk, one large and one small suitcase, along with assorted bags, the woman wandered empty-handed, admiring the nice surroundings.

Zane helped with the luggage, Ronan couldn’t resist a quiet jab: "Brother, where did you find such a princess to serve?"

Zane didn’t respond, taking the remaining luggage, leaving Ronan with a small suitcase, probably leaving nothing if he could carry it all.

Resigned sighing, thinking Zane would spend life with this woman, he shrugged off further complaint, taking the suitcase upstairs, eager to avoid more contact with the noisy, inconsiderate, self-righteous woman, exchanging pleasantries before shutting the door behind him.

Internally lamenting, his remarkable brother was stuck with a boorish partner.

Finding such a woman was worse than coming out.

Walking downstairs, pondering Erin Bishop’s discreet airport exit, Ronan called her but found the phone off.

Followed by calling Shannon Quinn, "Miss Quinn, Miss Bishop, she..."

"I took her home."

"Glad she’s safely home, I worried she might do something rash."

Shannon Quinn sighed, saying, "Probably still crying now."

"Ah, I never imagined my brother would suddenly bring a girlfriend back, never mentioned anything before." Complaining, Ronan asked, "You must be home now, right? Is Master Nate asleep?"

"He should be asleep."

"Did he take his medicine?"

"He took it."

"Alright then, thank you, I’ll come over tomorrow morning to see him."

That night seemed peaceful.

Everyone harbored their problems, the disturbances only known to themselves.

In this world, seldom does everything go as desired, people often neglect what they have but dwell on what they wish for yet cannot obtain...
