CHAPTER 84: CHAPTER 84: DON’T BE AFRAID

No, why is she thinking about these things? Why should she care about how he feels? It’s none of her business.

Just as she was thinking this, the crowd gathered again, all looking in one direction.

Shannon Quinn curiously looked over and saw Landon Sutton and Simon Rhodes walking side by side into the exhibition hall, each followed by their assistants, seemingly discussing something.

Actually, Simon Rhodes’s influence is no less than Landon Sutton’s; you could say they are evenly matched, or rather, the Rhodes Family’s background is even more impressive than Landon’s.

Moreover, Shannon even felt that from certain angles, they looked quite similar.

The appearance of the two moguls together naturally caused quite a stir, and Shannon heard more of the women’s infatuated voices.

But with a man of such looks and charisma, it’s not surprising he’s favored by so many women.

Everyone just watched from a distance; nobody approached them.

As they entered the exhibition hall, Shannon also picked up her things and stood up, just as she received a call from Simon Rhodes.

"Do you still have something to do?"

"No, I can leave anytime."

"Then wait for me at the entrance of Parking Lot Three, I’m going to get the car now."

"Okay."

After hanging up the call, Shannon walked towards Parking Lot Three.

The exhibition was nearing its end, and many people were coming to the parking lot to retrieve their cars. Not far away, Shannon saw June Yardley and her sister chatting and laughing with a middle-aged man.

Shannon didn’t take a closer look; she didn’t want to cause any trouble.

Standing at the entrance, she saw a white car approaching. Because the headlights were glaring, she couldn’t see clearly, but it seemed to be Simon Rhodes’s car.

Her gaze fixed on that car, but at that moment, a black sedan stopped in front of her. She took a step back and glanced beside her, there was no one else around.

The car door on her side opened, and a man in casual clothes got out, smiling roguishly at her: "Sister, waiting for your brother to pick you up?"

Seeing Jett Quinn get out of the car, Shannon widened her eyes and stepped back two paces, but Jett grabbed her wrist forcefully, using his strength to roughly pull Shannon into the car.

Shannon was unsure if the car behind was Simon’s, she gripped the door frame tightly, trying to buy time.

"Brother’s taking you home, what are you afraid of?" Jett said softly, but Shannon felt a chill down her spine.

The tenderness in his voice didn’t match the force with which he twisted her fingers, Shannon really thought he might break her fingers.

"Help!" Shannon shouted, not knowing if anyone heard. Jett slammed the car door shut and said casually to the driver, "Go."

"What do you want?!"

"Brother is right here, who are you calling for help from?"

The white car behind had a clear view of Shannon being pulled into the car, but everything happened too fast for him to intervene.

He just sped up, following the car in front, while calling Landon Sutton: "Shannon’s in trouble."

"I saw, keep on their tail, I’m on my way,"

"Uh-huh, Arlan and the others are outside. I’ll notify them to see if they can intercept."

Simon Rhodes hung up the call and quickly dialed his men waiting outside.

However, the other party had left their phone in the car and was chatting outside, watching helplessly as the black sedan sped by, unaware of what had happened.

Simon, shaking his head helplessly, tossed his phone aside and accelerated to follow.

Arlan and his partner recognized Simon’s car; they exchanged a glance: "Isn’t that Mr. Rhodes’s car?"

"Seems like it."

"What’s going on?"

"No idea."

"What are you standing around for?! Get in the car and follow them!"

Inside the black sedan, after locking the doors, Jett Quinn released Shannon’s hands, not restraining her, and even said, "If you think I’ll harm you, you can call the police, or... get that old lover of yours to come to rescue you. It’ll give me a chance to deal with her."

Shannon swallowed, her hand in the bag already touching her phone, planning to call the police.

But she thought he’d been to the police station so many times, and with the Quinn Family relying on the Rhodes Family’s influence, the police probably wouldn’t do much to him.

Besides, he hadn’t done anything to harm her yet; even if they went to the police, they would likely treat it as a private family matter. After all, legally, they were still family.

"What do you actually want?"

"Nothing, just that you’ve been so wary of me lately, I haven’t seen you and I kind of missed you. I’ve been waiting for hours outside just to finally see my dear sister today."

The phone in her pocket started buzzing with a ringtone.

Shannon stiffened, Jett glanced at it, smiled, and said, "Answer it, I’m not stopping you, see if it’s your old man calling."

Shannon ignored Jett, reached into her bag, and took out her phone. It was an unmarked number, but she clearly knew who it was.

"Is it that old man? Answer it, tell him I’m at School Two waiting for him," Jett said, glancing back with a smirk, "Oh, he’s probably already following. Tonight’s going to be fun."

Shannon turned to look but couldn’t see Landon’s car. The headlights were too bright; she didn’t know whose car was behind, but with trembling hands, she answered the call and put the phone to her ear.

"Hello? Shannon Quinn?" For the first time, she heard him sound so urgent.

Shannon was terrified, so much that her hands shook, but she only managed to utter one word: "Yes."

Upon hearing her answer, Landon Sutton breathed a little easier and quickly asked, "He hasn’t done anything to you, right?"

"...No."

"Don’t be afraid, I’m right behind you, don’t hang up."

Hearing this, Shannon felt a sense of reassurance wash over her. She looked back through the rear window again. Despite the traffic and dazzling lights, unable to pinpoint which car he was in, knowing he was behind her dispelled her fear.

Suddenly, Jett snatched the phone from her hands before Shannon could react, and said into the phone, "With such a big setup, if I don’t do something to her, how can I fulfill your hero-rescuing-the-beauty act?"

"If you’re smart, pull over now."

Jett let out a mocking laugh, "That’s no fun. I just want to play something exciting, give you a chance to be the hero, but it’s up to you if you have the skill."

With that, Jett hung up the phone and shoved it into his pocket, not returning it to Shannon, then immediately told the driver, "Speed up a bit more."

"Boss, any faster and we’ll get caught by the traffic police."

"I’ll take responsibility; what’s there to shy away from?"

The driver swallowed apprehensively and pressed down hard on the gas pedal.
