CHAPTER 86: CHAPTER 86: WHAT HAPPENED LAST NIGHT

Landon Sutton’s four brothers stepped forward to fight without hesitation, even the usually scholarly Simon Rhodes could handle a few moves, though compared to Ronan Rhodes and the others, Simon’s movements were slightly slow and awkward. Clearly, Simon was protecting Landon, who had an injured leg.

"Stop fighting!" Shannon Quinn shouted from inside the car. Her voice was cut off by the tightly closed windows as she desperately shook the car door handle in vain.

Amidst the chaos, she couldn’t tell who had the upper hand. She didn’t want to see anyone getting hurt.

Though Landon and Jett Quinn had grudges from before, today Jett was clearly targeting Landon. Regardless, whether it was that time or this, Landon only stepped in for her sake, leading to such an uncontrollable mess...

The sound of a police siren blared as Shannon turned her head to look towards the back of the car, red and blue lights flashing. She couldn’t tell how many police cars had arrived.

All she saw was the chaotic crowd halting their fight, Jett’s people dropping their weapons and scattering in all directions.

"Police! Nobody move!"

More than ten police cars arrived, with armed police quickly surrounding the area.

She saw the leading officer walk over to Landon Sutton and say something to him, before Simon Rhodes came walking towards her.

He took out the car keys, opened the car door, and sat in the driver’s seat.

"Brother, are you all okay?" Shannon asked anxiously.

Simon smiled at her, casually saying, "We’re fine. This might take some time to resolve here, so I’ll take you home first."

"Your hand is injured."

"Just a scratch, it’s nothing," Simon said as he started the car and slowly navigated out of the narrow road. Ignoring his own discomfort, he turned to give Shannon a glance and asked, "Were you scared?"

It was indeed Shannon’s first time witnessing such a scene firsthand; she always thought these scenarios only happened on TV.

"Don’t worry, go home and rest well. I’ll handle everything here."

After dropping Shannon off downstairs, Simon reminded her of a few things before driving away.

Back at home, Shannon felt uneasy. Because of her, things had escalated, yet now she was entirely out of the situation.

Police station.

Ronan Rhodes was in the office giving a statement, while Landon Sutton stood outside in the corridor, a half-burnt cigarette between his index and middle fingers. His gaze was unfocused as it fell on the ground, seeming to be lost in thought.

"Have you explained everything? You should go home and rest first, I’ll handle things here." Having dropped Shannon Quinn home, Simon Rhodes rushed back to the hospital and found Landon Sutton standing alone at the end of the corridor.

Landon glanced back at him, brought the cigarette to his lips, took a drag, and exhaled the smoke, asking, "Is she home now?"

"Yeah, I left after making sure she got downstairs."

"Thanks, brother."

"Thanks for what? It’s nothing. There’s a driver outside; he’ll take you home first. Leave this to me, otherwise, Grandpa will scold you again for sneaking out and getting into trouble."

Landon chuckled, stubbed out the cigarette, and tossed it into the trash can, his voice slightly bitter, saying, "This is all I can do for her now."

Simon understood his helplessness at the moment, patting him on the shoulder and comforting him, "So you need to come back safe and sound to make it up to her."

Landon nodded, advising, "I’ll leave things here to you. Jett Quinn should get as many years as he deserves, but don’t overdo it. After all, he’s Shannon’s brother, and I worry the Quinn family might trouble her."

"I understand. If the Quinn family asks Shannon to plead, I’ll step in."

"Alright."

"Go home. The car is just outside."

Shannon Quinn waited at home for a long time, long past her usual bedtime, repeatedly going to the balcony to check for any signs in the next room, but no one returned.

She hesitated before sending a message to Ronan, asking about the situation, but received no reply.

Eventually, unable to fight off sleepiness, she fell asleep on the sofa with worry in her heart.

The next day, as the first light of dawn crept in, she woke up. Her first reaction was to reach for the phone beside her pillow, seeing a reply from Ronan: Everything’s settled, nothing to worry about. Rest easy.

The message ended with a smiling emoji.

Seeing this, Shannon still felt a bit puzzled. What exactly was meant by "settled"?

After washing up and having a simple breakfast, she waited until after seven, thinking Ronan should be up by then, and rang the doorbell of the room next door with her questions.

Soon she heard footsteps approaching the door, but what surprised Shannon was that the door was answered by a woman.

With wavy long hair, wearing a seductive silk robe, and with makeup that seemed left over from the previous night, the woman looked haughty and somewhat displeased, "Who are you? What do you want?"

Shannon pressed her lips together, momentarily awkward due to the unexpected situation. "Um... I’m looking for Ronan Rhodes, is he here?"

Hearing Shen was looking for Ronan, the woman’s gaze turned even more unfriendly, seeming to regard her as a rival but still reluctantly shouted inside, "Ronan! Someone’s here to see you!"

Ronan’s voice came from inside, "Who is it?"

The woman replied impatiently, "Find out yourself! Another one of your flings is here; aren’t you going to see which of your girlfriends it is?"

Ronan soon walked out, seemingly not quite awake, still tying the belt of his robe. But upon seeing Shannon standing at the door, he immediately woke up fully, "Miss Quinn? What brings you here?"

Seeing the woman clinging to Ronan’s arm as if to assert her rights, Shannon offered an apologetic smile, saying, "Sorry to bother you. I just wanted to ask about last night..."

"Last night? What did you two do last night?!"

Ronan didn’t answer the woman’s question. Instead, he frowned, pulled his hand away to push her aside, and said impatiently, "Get inside, put on your clothes and you can leave. I’ll wire you the money."

The woman glared at Shannon and Ronan but twisted her hips as she unwillingly went back inside the house.

Ronan then cheerfully turned to Shannon, "You’re worried about Master Nate, right? Don’t worry, Master Nate’s perfectly fine."

As expected, given Landon Sutton’s influence, such a minor issue shouldn’t cause him any problems. What she really wanted to know was about Jett Quinn.

Before, Jett might have been able to walk away from the police station if someone else was involved, but this time it was different.

"And... how about Jett Quinn?"

"Him? He won’t be that lucky, three to five years is unavoidable. He’s caused trouble too many times, it’d do society good to have such a thug spend some time in prison."
