My Notoriety Spreads Throughout the World
Chapter 63 - 60: A New Crisis
CHAPTER 63: CHAPTER 60: A NEW CRISIS
Xu Xiaoyou’s body trembled, and she quickly withdrew her gaze.
She whistled.
Nothing to do with me!
Not long after, Aphra was scolded to tears and ran out of the office.
"This kid is so weird, suddenly acting up like someone stuffed her head with a bunch of strange ideas, arguing about some nonsense, PUA or something."
Gloss sat down complaining, poking Xu Xiaoyou’s shoulder: "Little Nian, got any clues?"
"Nope, I don’t know, I know nothing."
Xu Xiaoyou felt guilty.
Before long, she sat in the chair, two cards appearing in her hands as she thought how effective they were.
[Skill Card: Language Artist]
[Quality: Softcover (Green)]
[Effect: After use, permanently gain the ’Language Artist’ effect. ’Language Artist’: You will automatically translate all languages and master the ability to communicate in any language. Your words will be more convincing and easier to persuade others.]
[Skill Card: Social Master]
[Quality: Softcover (Green)]
[Effect: After use, permanently gain the ’Social Master’ effect. ’Social Master’: Your appearance becomes more alluring, making it easier for others to approach you. Others’ basic level of favorability towards you increases. (Note: High favorability may be dangerous!)]
These were skill cards she recently acquired by cashing in on some debts, and she hadn’t found an opportunity to try them out yet.
She was a bit upset at first for not pulling a Combat Power Card, but after experimenting, that feeling of upset completely vanished.
Language Artist and Social Master, combined, were like an unbeatable hand, easily fooling Aphra with a few words.
Even she felt strange, as if everyone in the office looked at her with a weird gaze today.
Like a pack of wolves eyeing a little lamb, ready to pounce and devour her.
Xu Xiaoyou felt uneasy and silently put the two cards away.
These two cards seemed to work best on simple-minded people.
Xu Xiaoyou was searching her mind for anyone who could be considered simple, and soon someone bubbled up to the surface.
Should she try these two skill cards on Bai Youyou?
Xu Xiaoyou imagined the scene and turned pale, quickly shaking her head.
Better not, it might cause trouble.
She stretched lazily, and just as she was about to rest her head on the table for a bit, she heard a few people discussing nearby, employees from another group by their outfits.
"Have you heard about the recent events in Alley Five?"
"Yeah, I’ve heard! It’s been causing quite a stir, Ghost Alley Five... and something about late-night snacks, so many people have gone missing, even some Cleaners from the offices."
"It’s so scary, just thinking about it gives me goosebumps."
"I heard the entire Alley Five is a bizarre creature, wandering through any alley in Nest City, might pop up on a night walk someday."
"It’s like it’s become an urban legend here in Nest City, the man-eating Alley Five. Who knows when the Association will send someone to deal with it."
"Our Nest City being noticed by the Association? That’s a joke..."
"I won’t dare walk alone at night anymore, let’s leave together after work."
Xu Xiaoyou listened to their discussion, deep in thought.
She’s also heard quite a bit about Alley Five these past few days.
It’s said to be the most dangerous and influential bizarre creature born in Corrupt Nest City in decades.
This level of creature is generally classified as a ’Nest City Legend’ by the Cleaner Association.
According to what she learned from the news, the entire Alley Five is a moving bizarre creature.
In fact, Alley Five appeared over a month ago, but at that time it was small in scope and influence, mostly causing the disappearance of unnoticed homeless people, only whispered about among Cleaners.
But recently, Alley Five seems to have entered some kind of hunting mode, actively preying on lone Cleaners in the city.
Intelligence indicates this alley awakens at 8:15 and begins its activity.
One moment a normal alley, the next transformed into Alley Five with features like a crimson moon and red tides.
From it emerges derivatives, humanoid bizarre creature called Dissectors, which appear in groups every time.
No one knows how they are born from the red tide or where they go after disappearing, only that they are covered in thick Alchemy Armor and carry metal cans filled with the red tide.
This information was extracted from a Cleaner who escaped from Alley Five, but soon after escaping, their Spirit collapsed. No matter the question, they only responded with frightened talk like ’assimilation’, ’hunger’, ’feeding’.
Xu Xiaoyou wasn’t concerned about this.
These city-level bizarre creatures aren’t worth dispatching a Cleaner for to the Association’s eyes — ’Death Call’, ’Red High Heels’, the current threat of Alley Five doesn’t compare to these legendary city legends.
Those bizarre creatures cause the deaths of tens of thousands, even hundreds of thousands of residents daily, shaking the foundation of Nest City and triggering global panic.
To the Association, Alley Five is, at most, a large predator, appearing at 8:15 to eat a few unlucky people.
Of course, if she encountered it, she never said that.
At most, she’s just a First Tier Cleaner, not enough to fill the gap of a Nest City Legend.
As Xu Xiaoyou was lost in thought, a voice called her from outside the door.
"Xu Nian, the department manager has something for you, better go."
Xu Xiaoyou frowned.
Why would the department manager want to see her at this time?
And specifically calling for ’Xu Nian’ by name.
She’d only met that Werewolf once during the newcomer meeting over half a month ago...
Had her success in handling so many debts in the past half month attracted the higher-ups’ attention?
With many thoughts swirling within, she pushed them down and agreed.
Shortly, she arrived in front of the department manager’s office, not knocking, she entered.
The powerful Werewolf casually crossed his legs, sitting inside the office, his white round-collar shirt stretched by his muscular chest, flipping through one document after another with his hairy arm.
Noticing her arrival, he had no reaction.
Silently, he removed his glasses and put them aside, yawning:
"Make yourself at home."
Xu Xiaoyou nodded, closed the door, then naturally took a bag of chips from the Werewolf’s desk, ripped it open, and ate a piece.
"Didn’t mean to make yourself too at home." The Werewolf’s forehead throbbed with veins.
"Sigh."
Knowing she couldn’t avoid this, Xu Xiaoyou sighed and spoke first.
"Supervisor Wilson, what do you have to say, just be direct."
Seeing the girl so calm and composed, Wilson raised a brow and his tone turned playful:
"Alright, as you wish, straight to the point."
"Tell me, how did you get Xu Nian’s information card?"
"So certain?" Xu Xiaoyou was not surprised, responding with a question of her own.
Wilson smirked, revealing his sharp fangs: "Of course."
"Because I sent those three Cleaners to kill Xu Nian."
