CHAPTER 414: CHAPTER 414: THIS NIGHT

Ye Fan infiltrated the outskirts of the squad’s camp. Near the bonfire, six people were on night watch. This squad was none other than Lone Wolf’s third squad, which was involved in the hunt to kill Ye Fan and Mengyao. There were thirty people in the squad, and four had already died at Ye Fan’s hands.

As the foremost large mercenary corps in Asia, Lone Wolf ranks first among the dark forces, with substantial resources. Under the four main leaders, the corps is divided into ten squads, with quite a number of members. However, the number involved in the hunt for Ye Fan and Mengyao wasn’t large, with each squad leader leading a group of elite members for this operation.

Members of the third squad, aside from the six keeping watch, had ten resting, gathering energy, preparing for tomorrow’s battle.

Another ten were lurking around the camp, disguised and hidden, ready to fend off any attacks.

Even while resting, the third squad’s members were not at all careless, constantly ready for a possible assault.

It shows that the people of the Lone Wolf Mercenary Corps truly deserve their title as elites, living up to their reputation as the top mercenary corps.

Ye Fan had long since grasped the enemy’s situation clearly. His first target was the ten hidden individuals.

"Crack!" Ye Fan’s figure silently appeared behind one person. With a gentle slap, the person’s neck suddenly softened, no longer breathing, dead as can be. Then, his figure flickered and moved onto the next target.

He had remarkable knowledge of the mysteries of vital points, thus easily killing the enemy without making much noise. Then he continued stealthily, cautiously approaching the hiding places of other enemies.

Quickly, all ten hidden enemies died at his hands.

Each enemy perished peacefully. Their eyes didn’t even have time to show a glimmer of unwillingness before losing their vitality.

Then, Ye Fan targeted the six by the bonfire, picking the right moment, he moved like a ghost, suddenly appearing behind two men with swift chops aimed at their vital points. In the blink of an eye, he attacked the other four. The last man died with his eyes wide open in disbelief; the other five didn’t even have time to react. The six thought the perimeter was heavily guarded, believing no matter how skilled the prey was, they couldn’t approach them, thus feeling relaxed and unwary.

After killing the six, Ye Fan first moved toward the ten resting individuals, locking his target on the squad leader.

Among the ten squads hunting, only the squad leader of each team had an earpiece for contacting others. So, Ye Fan decided to eliminate the squad leader first to prevent other squads from being alerted.

"Crack! Crack..."

The sound of ten lives lost echoed, as the ten resting individuals died in a daze. Despite considering themselves elites, believing they could sense approaching threats even while asleep, in Ye Fan’s hands, their alertness proved worthless.

At this moment, all twenty-six people within the camp were now mere corpses.

After accomplishing this, Ye Fan’s tense nerves finally relaxed slightly. He wasted no time as he rushed swiftly toward Mengyao’s hiding place.

In the pitch-black night, among the trees, Mengyao’s body couldn’t help but tremble. The reasons were twofold: one was being cold and hungry, the other was fear. When Ye Fan was by her side, she could maintain her composure, but now, even if Ye Fan wasn’t beside her for a moment, she felt an endless chill invading her, with terror growing wildly in her heart.

She wanted to be strong but couldn’t withstand the consuming darkness. The more she thought about being resilient, the more fearful she felt.

She didn’t even dare to look back, fearing to see an empty void.

Even the night breeze chilled her, sending shivers down her spine.

If only there was moonlight, or even starlight. But the surroundings were eerily quiet with no light at all.

How could Mengyao, who had never experienced such a perilous environment, not feel terrified?

Only the campfire could lend some strength, with Mengyao’s gaze fixed around the fire, a voice in her heart constantly praying, hoping Ye Fan would be safe.

"Who is it?" A voice with terror shouted from Mengyao’s throat.

"It’s nothing, it’s me." Ye Fan’s figure appeared. He could sense the complex emotions in Mengyao’s voice. He came to her side, embraced her, and headed toward the camp.

Beside the bonfire, Ye Fan and Mengyao leaned together. Above the fire, meat was roasting. With hot water and food, their hungry bellies could finally be satisfied.

Mengyao was exhausted to the extreme; if Ye Fan weren’t there, leaving her alone in such a remote forest, she wouldn’t last a night. Even if she didn’t encounter wild beasts or insects, she couldn’t get past her mental hurdles and would likely go insane.

Looking at Mengyao, Ye Fan felt immense sympathy, while his hatred for Meng Yinglong surged to its peak.

After eating and drinking, drowsiness swept over. Mengyao’s head became heavy, unable to stay awake, just wanting to sleep.

Ye Fan pulled Mengyao over, holding her in his arms, gently saying, "Quickly, sleep. We’ve been here for thirteen hours; you’re exhausted. If you don’t sleep now, you won’t make it through tomorrow."

"Am I useless?" Mengyao whispered dejectedly.

"What nonsense are you talking about? You’ve been with me running nonstop for thirteen hours. Even someone with strong physical prowess couldn’t achieve that. You’re stronger than I expected." Ye Fan comforted.

He wasn’t speaking idle words; he and Mengyao had been constantly behind enemy lines, often having to attack. During this time, the enemy thought he was ahead, chasing after him, while he and Mengyao exerted all their strength to run forward.

This had worn Mengyao out considerably.

"If I sleep, what will you do?" Mengyao weakly said, "You have to deal with the enemy and look after me, making me feel useless."

Ye Fan held Mengyao’s head, and within a minute, Mengyao was soundly asleep.

Mengyao also realized she couldn’t drag him down, she had to give her best effort so as not to be a burden to Ye Fan. To ensure she wouldn’t be a problem while Ye Fan dealt with the enemy, she urgently needed a good sleep now.

Ye Fan gently wiped the dirt off Mengyao’s face and tidied her tangled hair, muttering to himself, "Tomorrow, Du Xueqi and the other five women will surely reunite with me, then everything will be alright."

He was waiting for the right time, then decided to strike decisively, to completely wipe out Meng Yinglong.

He hadn’t expected, before making a move against Meng Yinglong, to be hit by a deadly strike from Meng Yinglong himself.
