My Possessive CEO: Trembling in His Arms
Chapter 133: "Fine, I’ll Go with You
CHAPTER 133: CHAPTER 133: "FINE, I’LL GO WITH YOU
The gunfire continued, pounding in the ears.
Renee Winslow didn’t open the window, nor did she respond to Caleb Yates.
She desperately needed to remain calm, as only then could she think clearly. But the intense gunfire made it impossible for her to stay calm; her mind was in a jumble.
Caleb Yates chuckled coldly, "Renee, you’re so kind, you certainly wouldn’t want to see Benjamin and Henry Hayes get shot dead by the drug dealers, right?"
Renee gasped for breath, suddenly sitting up straight, just about to open the window to respond. Benjamin hurriedly said, "Miss Winslow, you don’t have to worry about us."
Henry Hayes also said, "Yes, you don’t need to worry about us. Stay down, protect yourself."
Renee pressed her dry lips, and when she spoke, her voice was a bit hoarse from excessive tension, "But if both of you die, do you think I can protect myself? Then, I’ll either be taken away by the drug dealers or by Caleb Yates."
Neither Benjamin nor Henry spoke; they were never going to let Caleb Yates take Renee away, but they also understood that what Renee said was true.
If they died, Renee would have no way to protect herself.
Benjamin remained silent, baffled by why Caleb Yates was the one coming to the rescue.
Where were Shane Grant and The Vah State Army? Why hadn’t they come?
Even if The Vah State Army had suddenly turned against them, Shane Grant couldn’t possibly not come.
Leaving aside the life-and-death camaraderie between Shane Grant and Jack Yates, Shane was a Cathan soldier. Knowing they were in trouble, he would certainly come to their aid.
Where did things go wrong?
With Jack Yates’ depth and scheming, such a basic mistake shouldn’t happen.
Benjamin was unsure, drumming his fingers, unable to make a decision.
Caleb Yates knew there wasn’t much time left. The people his uncle had given wouldn’t hold out much longer. If he delayed any longer, The Vah State Army would arrive, and he wouldn’t be able to take Renee Winslow away.
So he glanced at his watch and urged, "Renee, I’ll count to three. If you don’t agree, I’ll leave. Tonight there are over a dozen drug dealers, all desperados. Benjamin and Henry Hayes, even if they’re made of iron, can’t hold out."
Renee opened the car window a little and looked at Caleb Yates, "Fine, I’ll go with you, but you have to promise that nothing will happen to Benjamin and Henry Hayes."
Caleb Yates raised an eyebrow with a smile, "Of course."
Seeing Benjamin about to retort, Renee quickly said, "Ben, in these circumstances, we have no choice. We can’t all just heroically sacrifice ourselves, right?"
After saying this, she laughed self-deprecatingly.
"No, not sacrifice, we’re not officials. It would just be a wrongful death."
Benjamin said nothing, implicitly agreeing.
Caleb Yates gave the all-clear, and Henry Hayes drove the car forward, with Caleb Yates’ car escorting from the rear.
The two cars drove, one after the other, to a place far from the battlefield.
Renee quickly got out of the SUV and into Caleb Yates’ military jeep.
However, Caleb Yates didn’t take her to Lyncroft but to Naypidon International Airport.
Sitting on a sofa in the airport VIP lounge, Renee patiently advised, "Caleb Yates, don’t fight with Jack Yates. After all, you’re uncle and nephew, connected even to the marrow. Why fight each other? Besides, fighting until both suffer losses, what good it will do you?"
Caleb Yates sneered and asked, "Do you not want to go with me, or do you not want me to get hurt?"
Renee was rendered speechless by his odd focus and tightly pressed her lips, saying nothing.
Caleb Yates moved closer to her, draping an arm around her shoulder, playing with a strand of her hair around his finger, and chuckled lazily, "I’m not the one wanting to fight. It’s him who doesn’t know how to respect age. As an uncle, and elder, to snatch his own nephew’s girlfriend—do you think he’s even human?"
Renee said nothing; she couldn’t speak.
Being a victim and involved party, she should have the most rights to speak.
But in this power struggle, she was merely a pawn in their competition, without any voice.
Seeing her silence, Caleb Yates yanked her hair, coldly curling a corner of his mouth, smiling mischievously, "Answer me, is Jack Yates even human?"
Renee still said nothing, simply closing her eyes.
Caleb Yates grasped her jaw, fingers tightening with a cold voice, "Do you know why Jack wanted you to come to Northern Myona?"
Renee still said nothing.
Caleb Yates released her, gently rubbing her reddened cheek, smiling, "He wasn’t injured; I lied to you on the phone."
As for how he knew Jack Yates wasn’t injured, it was because he knew well that Ethan Wyatt was no match for Jack Yates.
"I deliberately said he was injured because I knew he would surely wiretap my call with you. The phone he gave you has monitoring functions; it can monitor your every move, conversations, all call records, and what was said on the phone, he knows it all."
Renee: "..."
Caleb Yates continued, "Didn’t Jack pretend to be seriously injured to deceive you into seeing him one last time?"
Renee: "..."
At that moment, she found Caleb Yates equally terrifying.
Caleb Yates, seeing her lack of response, saw her eyelashes flutter slightly and smiled knowingly, "I knew it even if you didn’t say it. He deceived you over, wanting to see you pained for him. But don’t you think he’s selfish?"
Renee involuntarily pressed her lips tighter.
Caleb Yates continued to seduce, "He came here, where even his own life is uncertain. Various drug lords and major crime syndicates in The Gilded Delta all want him dead. Just to test your feelings, he dragged you here, disregarding your feelings, not even caring for your safety."
In reality, Jack Yates must have been entirely sure he could protect Renee before he let her come over.
Of course, he wouldn’t say such things to Renee Winslow. How could he praise his third uncle in front of her?
Caleb Yates continued to badmouth Jack Yates.
"Like tonight, he let Benjamin and Henry take you to Lyncroft, but didn’t consider those drug lords would send people to catch you as a hostage. If I hadn’t gotten the news and rushed over, you would have fallen into the drug dealers’ lair tonight. Those drug lords are utterly inhumane. Do you know how cruel they are?"
Renee, hearing this, suddenly sensed something amiss, frowning, she asked, "You got the information? How did you get the information, from where did you get it? And how did those drug lords know about my relationship with Jack Yates?"
With Jack Yates’ meticulous thinking, he couldn’t let those people know their relationship.
Could it be that all this was orchestrated by Caleb Yates?
