My Possessive CEO: Trembling in His Arms
Chapter 151: "Thank You, Third Brother, for Standing Up for Me
CHAPTER 151: CHAPTER 151: "THANK YOU, THIRD BROTHER, FOR STANDING UP FOR ME
Renee Winslow unhesitatingly chose the latter, raising the slingshot and swiftly loading a stone into the pouch.
As the saying goes, "better they than me."
Moreover, Lily Thatcher wasn’t her friend, and she had even hit her.
Therefore, Renee felt no guilt in her decision.
The reason she didn’t immediately agree to retaliate against Lily wasn’t because she was particularly kind, but because she didn’t want to cause trouble.
She knew very well that she couldn’t afford to.
In a place like Northcity, where the powerful and influential are everywhere, you could randomly throw a brick and hit a department head.
She truly didn’t dare to be ostentatious, not even now, being with Jack Yates, did she dare to flaunt Jack’s status.
Caution ensures the longevity of a boat; keeping a low profile is the way to stay safe.
Besides, Lily was Simon Forrester’s cousin, and Simon was a friend of Jack’s. The Forrester Family in Northcity was also a prominent family.
Being with Jack already offended the entire Yates Family, and now she’d offend the Forrester Family too. At this rate, she’d soon offend all the powerful families in Northcity.
If one day she and Jack broke up, with so many powerful enemies, she might not even know how she’d end up dead.
Even though she didn’t want to cause trouble, Jack was used to being reckless and insisted on pushing her.
Renee had no choice but to comply.
Looking at Lily’s trembling legs, Renee couldn’t bring herself to really hit Lily, so she deliberately missed, and the stone fell into the lake, creating ripples.
Jack’s voice turned low: "Renee Winslow, aim properly."
Renee shook her hand and replied softly, "Okay."
She raised the slingshot with her right hand, held the stone-laden pouch with her left, pulled back forcefully, and released it. The stone flew out, once again falling into the lake.
This time, she didn’t deliberately miss; she had just used too much force, causing the stone to land in the lake.
She had pulled too hard on the rubber band, and her wrist was in pain. She shook her sore hand, preparing to shoot the third stone.
Jack feared she’d injure her wrist. The little girl’s bones were delicate; every part of her was tender and fragile, including her wrist, a slender piece of bone wrapped in soft, tender skin.
He normally didn’t dare to hold her wrist too firmly, fearing he might crush it with even a little pressure.
Just as Renee was about to load the third stone into the pouch, Jack came up behind her, holding both her hands, guiding her to shoot the stone out. It hit Lily’s knee directly.
With a splash—
Lily fell backward into the water, face up.
Standing by, Aiden Grant signaled for the security personnel, who had been on standby, to jump in and save her the moment she fell.
Jack didn’t even glance at the lake, holding Renee’s hand as they left. As they passed Simon Forrester, Jack casually remarked, "Let’s forget about what happened today. After we leave through this door, I won’t hold a grudge. If your family wants to hold a grudge, come directly to me—don’t trouble Renee. If I find out someone bothers her again."
He paused, pressing a hand on Simon’s shoulder, his voice suddenly tense, "Second Brother Forrester, you should know my temper. Don’t blame me for not being lenient with a brother."
Simon immediately apologized, "Third Brother, don’t be mad. Today, it was Lily’s fault, and my fault for not managing her well. Tell you what, I’ll give that bar in Westlake to Renee as an apology."
Renee was about to refuse when Jack said, "Alright."
Simon laughed, "Tonight, I’ll host a dinner for you and Renee."
Jack waved his hand, "No need, I have things to do tonight."
On the way back, Renee tilted her head to look at Jack, her voice soft, "Thank you for standing up for me today, Third Brother."
Jack freed a hand to gently rub her head, "What nonsense are you talking about? You’re my woman. If I don’t stand up for you, who will? Or are you hoping some other man will stand up for you?"
Renee didn’t respond to his teasing, leaning her head on his shoulder.
"But have you thought about it? By standing up for me, you’ve offended everyone, putting me directly in their sights. What if one day, you’re tired or bored of me, and I leave you—what then?"
