CHAPTER 28: CHAPTER 28

I rolled my eyes as we left the house. At the mall, I opened the door for her, something I don’t usually do, just to appease my pregnant wife.

As we entered, I walked a short distance away from her.

"Okay, what do you want?" I asked, and she squealed like a baby.

"Let’s buy shoes first," she said, heading toward the clothing section.

I followed her like a sheep. I hardly ever go to the mall; I have my assistants run all my errands. I don’t know a thing about this place.

She started grabbing jeans and leggings that I assumed would be very tight on her. Was she doing this to annoy me?

"How can you wear those when you’re pregnant? Won’t they hurt the baby?" I stuttered, trying not to sound like I cared.

"Then help me select better ones that won’t hurt ’our baby,’" she said, air quoting the last two words.

I grabbed the trousers she was holding and threw them on the floor. "Try something like this," I said, taking a large pair of jeans from the hanger.

She gasped. "Do you hate me that much? How do you expect me to wear something so big? It wouldn’t even stay on your mom’s waist," she stated angrily.

I took the jeans and held her by the shoulder. "Come on, let’s go and try it on," I said.

"Try what? It looks like you don’t want me to get noticed by guys. You want to hide my beauty," she said, tapping my forehead as she spoke.

Drama queen.

"You want to be stuck with me," she scoffed.

"You’re not even the last person I would care about on earth. I was just concerned for my baby. I’m the one who created him, right? But if you want to wear rags and revealing clothes, go for it," I said, letting go of her.

I dropped the trousers on the floor while she picked up the ones I had thrown. She even grabbed a dozen crop tops and mini skirts. She was driving me crazy! I saw a woman with a voluptuous figure nearby, picking out clothes. Her backside alone could make a man swoon.

I approached her, and she gasped upon seeing someone like me in person. I felt like a celebrity because I’m so good-looking and charming.

Quinn should know she’s lucky to have a baby with me. She should be lucky I gave her a VIP experience when we hooked up, and now she’s my wife.

She’s really lucky.

The girl smirked. "Do you need help with that?" I asked her. She blushed and nodded.

I helped her take a shirt from a nearby table and gave it to her. I’d just flirt with her until my pregnant wife was done shopping.

Quinn’s POV

I came out with all the clothes I had and got quite a shock. Joshua was with a woman with a voluptuous figure. What does he think of me?

And here I thought he was trying to make things right between us.

I smiled as an idea came to mind.

I left the scene and looked for somewhere to hide. If he’d never been so worried in his life, he would be now.

Joshua’s POV

I stopped my conversation with the cute girl the moment I noticed Quinn was taking too long.

I went to the back of the clothing section where she was, but she wasn’t there.

I chuckled. Quinn, missing?!

My dad would kill me. Was she kidnapped?

I rushed to the counter to let them know I was looking for my pregnant wife. They all set out to look for her. Oh my God, Quinn, where are you?

For the first time in my life, I actually cared to know where someone was.

We looked for Quinn for about three hours, and I was already going insane. My hair was a mess. My Gucci shirt was already sweaty.

How do I tell Dad? That she got lost at the mall?

He’d tell me I wasn’t watching my wife, that I wasn’t paying attention to her.

I looked behind me to see my pregnant wife walking toward me. She even had the nerve to catwalk!

She pouted her lips. "I’m done getting what I want. Let’s go and pay," she said with the most innocent face.

Joshua’s POV

We went home with what she bought. I ordered food for myself and ate in satisfaction while she cooked her own dinner. She ate it hot with raspberry yogurt.

After my bath, I went to the living room to watch a movie. I planned to watch the most horrifying movie of the week. I get the latest movies installed on my TV. I grabbed the remote when my pregnant wife walked in.

Jeez, what is she still doing awake? She hasn’t even taken a bath yet. She sat beside me.

"Hubby, what are we watching?" she asked, beaming.

I rolled my eyes. "There’s no ’we’ here, and also, this is a horror movie. It will scare the hell out of you and it might affect my baby," I stated.

She scoffed. "You don’t know me, Jake. I’m a strong and brave woman. How can a common movie scare me?" she laughed.

"This is not an ordinary film, woman. This is much more intense and scary than you can imagine," I said.

"I don’t care. We’re watching it together," she said, shifting closer to me.

"Okay," I simply said, and the movie started.

Quinn’s POV

Oh my God, what am I watching?

I felt like grabbing Joshua by his shirt.

Jesus! The dead woman is right beside her!

"Ahhh!" I screamed and jumped on Joshua.

"I warned you," he sneered, smirking.

I almost wanted to cry!

He switched off the movie. "That’s enough for tonight, strong woman. Let’s go to bed," he said, and we stood up, leaving the living room.

Joshua’s POV

I was in my room about to fall asleep after chatting with my friends and cousin when the door opened and Quinn snuck in.

What’s she doing here? She approached my bed.

"Can I please sleep in your room?" she asked.

Huh? Did I hear that right?

"Why?" I asked.

"My bed is too hard for me," she said.

Hmph.

"Uh... Okay," I said and shifted a bit while she laid on the bed. She was still wearing her regular clothes, and her body felt hot. She hadn’t even taken a bath yet.

"Wife, have you taken a bath?" I asked her.

"No," she muttered.

I laughed. "You’re too scared to go to the bathroom?" I asked.

"I see the ghost there," she whispered.

"Okay, hun... I’ll escort you to my bathroom so you can shower and wear one of my shirts," I offered.

She nodded, and I took her to the bathroom.

"Take off your clothes," I said.

"No, you want to see me nude?" she retorted.

"Okay then, I’m going outside," I said, but she held me.

"Fine, I’m taking them off," she muttered.

I turned to watch her, ready to enjoy the view. She took off her clothes and stepped under the shower.

All these assets for me? Why can’t she let me have her already?

But one thing is for sure: I’m not begging.

She finished bathing, and I handed her my shirt, which she put on. So, my pregnant wife can be scared like this? We returned to the bed, and she held me tightly.

"Hubby, hold me... I feel like the ghost is behind me," she said, almost crying. I pulled her very close and turned off the light.

I feel like watching a horror movie all night with her. At least I get to enjoy her like this.

Quinn’s POV

I held Joshua so he wouldn’t leave me. I didn’t want to be this close to him, but what could I do? The two ghosts in the movie kept haunting me.

Either I saw the girl or I saw her mom. I should have just left Joshua and his demonic movie.

I fell asleep after so many thoughts.

MORNING

I woke up when I heard something ringing. Oh, my phone. I quickly picked it up, noticing Joshua wasn’t in the room.

It was Joshua’s dad calling. "Good morning, Sir," I said, scratching my eyes.

"Morning. I’m sorry to wake you, dear. You sound tired. I hope Joshua is not stressing you out," he said.

Such a nice man.

"No, he’s not. We’re good. I can handle his headaches," I said.

I heard him laugh.

"Okay, go and cook. Don’t leave your husband starving," he said enthusiastically, and I rolled my eyes.

Thank God he can’t see me.

"I will, Sir," I replied, and he hung up.

I looked at the phone he bought for me the day before my wedding. It’s so big, and I think it’s the latest model. What am I going to do with such a big phone anyway?

I looked at Joshua’s side of the bed. He wasn’t even in the room. I saw an open briefcase at the far end of the bed.

I stood up, looking at the big shirt I was wearing. It was so short.

I went to the briefcase and looked inside. My eyes widened.
