Having two weapons in my hands was a little nostalgic, though the kinds of weapons I now wielded were new to me, even if their purpose was something I was intimately familiar with; the Falcata especially was something I knew how to wield almost instinctually at this point as I slashed across the belly of a leaping wolf.
A horde of monsters had just leapt out of the ash during our march across the plains, and now they were proving to be quite determined to kill us instead of just running away from the scent that was driving them insane, and while they were large in number they weren''t as freakishly strong as I was anticipating.
They were certainly stronger than the monsters outside of the Labyrinthian by a decent amount, but there was definitely a lack of anything that would make someone think that these were definitely, one hundred percent, without a doubt native to this place that had struck fear into the heart of anyone knowledgeable enough to understand that the Labyrinthian was something to be feared.@@@@
Like right in front of me, currently sprawled on the ground whimpering thanks to the clean gash that traveled from its pelvis all the way up to the wolf''s throat, allowing all of its blood to seep out onto the ash and nourish whatever might have the possibility of growing in this stagnant place.
My Falcata was dripping with the blood of the downed wolf, and just to put it out of its misery I swung my War Pick down into its skull, bathing the beak of the phoenix in crimson and getting a bit of a grasp on just how effective this weapon was.
The monster''s skull exploded into hundreds of tiny pieces, the force of the impact sending up a wave of ash mixed with bone shards, blood and brain matter that turned the air an interesting pinkish grey.
Then there was a wolf whose fur was made entirely from rock, the heavy, statue-esque attempting to tank as many hits as it could while its pack mates darted to and fro in various attempts to take at least one of us down, only to end up dead.
More and more leapt at me from all directions; a winged wolf soared down at me and tried to claw off my face, only to be smacked down to the ground courtesy of my War Pick, one half of its rib cage shattered into pieces that punctured its lungs.
Another tried to stick close to the ashy ground, its grey coat helping it blend in as it attempted a surprise attack, only to have my Falcata slice through its skull before it could even get off of the ground.
We were in a sea of wolves that seemed to have no end, but as more emerged from the ash we all got more fired up, with Leone and Lilith taking that literally as they turned up the heat around us with each spell they slung, the older Demoness tutoring the Vampire a little in the middle of the battle.
It was a nice break from the monotony, and with each kill I could get rid of some of the frustration we had all begun to accumulate, all while I also learned a little more from the monsters that appeared, comparing them to the tiger and the ape we had fought last night.
They must have been mini boss level monsters while these were just your average monsters in these areas, and if that truly was the case this would be one hell of a training area for all of us... but of those had just been elite level monsters and we had yet to meet something that was like a mini boss...
That was why my optimism was currently being curbed with each monster I killed, and why I was more focused on properly christening my two new weapons as we eradicated this horde completely.
