CHAPTER 1445: CHAPTER 1444: IT’S... NOT THAT HARD..?
"You do know that this new idea of yours makes things more difficult for us, right? This is an entire additional layer of earth Anput needs to summon, another layer to the foundation of the house, and it is taking up an enormous amount of space."
Jahi just nodded and tapped the stone tablet that Anput had given her, showing the Jackalkin what she wanted the shape of the land to end up becoming and offering her various measurements to make sure she wasn’t confused about any of it.
"I do have to agree somewhat, Jahi... This is a lot of extra work..."
Instead of being genuine in her agreement with me Anput was more worried about how much more she was going to need to do to get this all done, and that only made me glare at her since she should be supporting me.
And yet it was hard to win her over when Jahi just gave her the very obvious ’you’ll be paid in full tonight’ look, making the Jackalkin nod in agreement and immediately change her tune as she sang the Demoness’ praises without any additional thinking.
"It’s not that big of a deal, Miss Katherine. If anything this works wonderfully since it offers an even higher vantage point over the city as well as more area to work with in case of any attack on your home. Plus this allows for some more diverse land utilization within the confines of your own walls."
"Oh yay, we can grow crops for ourselves and have a small orchard... how wonderful. Forgive me for not being terribly enthused about having even more land to take care of..."
Adelina just gave me a wry smile and shrugged her shoulders while Jahi just smirked at me as she said "We’ll just have someone we trust come work for us in those areas, and we can hire our own maid to keep things clean~! Remember love, we ARE Nobility, so some of these things are... expected of us."
"I don’t particularly care of others expectations, and I don’t want some random woman meandering around our home."
The sharp retort just caused Adeline to raise her brow while Jahi’s smirk widened like she had proven her point on something, which only irritated me more; before I could snap at Jahi though Anput hummed to herself and sauntered off, done memorizing what Jahi wanted and preparing to do as she was asked.
Summoning her portion of the pallets of stone blocks, Anput began to lay them out in a large area that mirrored what I had initially asked for - which simply was a giant rectangle - only to adjust it as I walked over to change things before they were quite literally set in stone.
Since Jahi was hellbent on having us on a tall hill - about thirty or so feet into the air - we might as well lean into it fully and have a tower attached to the house to loom even higher above the city...
And at least it would provide some function as both a watchtower of our own and being a place that would give us an incredible view of the land and the night sky whenever we desired it; also it fulfilled that fantasy setting need of having a wizard tower where all the magic was done~!
The purpose of having the foundation so deep though was to offer a protective bunker beneath the earth she would summon and to have it eventually connect to a secret escape route that would give us some peace of mind should we need it; the only people who would know of its existence were us, which was reassuring.
With everything finally in place Anput began to do the honors of officially beginning our new place of residence for the foreseeable future, sinking those stone blocks into the earth and then building up on them one layer at a time as she slowly began to create the foundation.
The space between the blocks was sealed with magic, which bound them together and kept anything out, something she asked me to test with a gale of wind that had some snow sprinkled in so that she could verify it worked.
I also just blasted one side with water before calling Leone up to dry everything off, something my mate wasn’t too appreciative of since she was ’accidentally’ splashed as well, but accidents happen, right~?
Anput had the first layer of the foundation done maybe an hour after she had begun, the stone blocks locked in place with her magic and giving us a preview of the space we would have to work with in the future.
The house itself was about 100 feet by 85 feet while the tower had a diameter of 30 feet, which would make this a... well the main house would be roughly 8,500 square feet, which was already ginormous considering what I was used to in my previous world, but here...
It was just going to be our home apparently, and that isn’t including whatever the square footage of that tower would end up being... and this was all assuming one level or whatever; I wasn’t a realtor so who the hell knows the real size.
I just know it’s gigantic and I will likely be able to hide away on one side of the house and not be found for a long time if I so choose, which is definitely a plus for many reasons; when we got to see the sheer size of the foundation I think we were all a little stunned, but Jahi immediately grinned and watched on with equally immense pride.
We were going to have three levels in the ground before we had an additional two or three above the ground, totaling five levels minimum... with this much area to cover I was going to have a lot of work cut out for me, but there were ways to circumvent some of these problems of mine~!
I was renewing my desires of studying magic again just to be able to keep everything clean and tidy without needing any additional help, and that alone would prove to be quite the task... but it was one I was ready for.
Just like Anput was ready for dinner after she called it quits after that first level of stone, the Jackalkin whining about being overworked and under appreciated even though we had complimented her many times during her work.
However before she could eat she had to start raising the earth around the foundation as well, earning a multitude of grumbles as she begrudgingly did that while I began to prepare the food we had brought along with us, which lured Mom and them over almost immediately.
