CHAPTER 1473: CHAPTER 1472: CHANGE OF PACE

"Oh thank the Gods~!"

Slowly drawing her blade out of the skull of a tri-horned bull monster, Jahi took a deep breath and grinned at me as she took a step back from it, giving me the space I needed to start working.

"I’ve really been itching to get back into the thick of things... well, besides being balls-"

"Shut up."

"Touchy touchy~! What, don’t like hearing about how I am so~ damn in love with your-"

"Jahi, I will cut your tongue off next if you keep speaking. I am trying to concentrate on this..."

The Demoness just let out a laugh as she took a step back, letting me do what I was trying to do and just observing as she basked in the afterglow of her kill; it wasn’t challenging nor was it impressive, but it was a kill, and it had been a long time since we had shed any blood.

Taking the monster apart piece by piece, I made sure to keep what I wanted intact before moving on towards the more ’fun’ part of what I was doing, which was the butchering of its meat; since it was some sort of bull monster I was very much looking forward to the steaks and ribs, and so far... it didn’t look disappointing whatsoever.

With the reminder to Jahi that I was doing some delicate knife work I was able to have a few moments of peace before the Demoness began to bother me again, though this time it was more tolerable as she asked me questions instead of using this lull to flirt.

"Yeah, this is going to be our primary source of ’stress relief’, so I was thinking we should get Anput to forge up some basic weapons to hunt with to make this a challenge. Or at the very least make this more challenging than it would be if we just used our usual gear... Is that too stupid, or..?"

"We will need some way to satiate our desire to hunt if we are to rule an entire city, so yes, I think we should get special gear made just for this occasion and try and rely on our raw prowess instead of the sophisticated magics and enchantments that we’ve become accustomed to."

"There will be times where we definitely need to just come out here either on our own or with just one other person though, right? Because if so then we can take a longer expedition into these Dungeons to try and find stronger monsters to hunt..."

I agreed to an extent, but I wasn’t particularly wanting to debate about the nuance of such a thing right this moment, so instead I just focused on gathering the various things from this monster’s corpse that I was adamant we needed.

The pelt, the bones, and of course the meat were all immediately harvested for future use, but I also helped myself to the Core, horns, organs and briefly contemplated the monster’s hooves before just deciding that I would have better use for my storage space.

After all we had just run into the monster other in the open, not even near an entrance to the Dungeon that was supposed to be somewhere in this area, so I was hoping we would find more to further bolster our pantry going forwards.

"I do think we should go about the rest of this search with just our normal blades, since it’ll help scratch that itch in just the right ways... especially for my gorgeous~ murderpuppy that hasn’t had anything to torture in oh so long~!"

Deciding to just ignore the Demoness, I finished up my work before getting up and cleansing myself of its blood, looking around and orienting myself again as I resumed leading us towards the general area that had been marked on the map we had been given.

"What did the notes say again? Something about this place being a pit in the ground that was just a gathering place for monsters, right? Shouldn’t be too hard to find then... and it does make me a bit excited~!"

"Something like that, yes. And ideally it won’t be just a giant, individual hole in the ground because that would make ’hunting’ impossible. Kill one monster just to lure the entire horde over to yourself?"

I clicked my tongue and shook my head, the idea of facing a giant wave of various animalistic monsters all at the same time not really appealing to me the same way it did the Demoness, who grinned at me as I said that.

"Well, at the very least it’s far away from the city, so we shouldn’t need to worry about any hordes stomping on over at random. This has been... what, nearly three hours on foot, and maybe two of that has been at some high speeds?"

"We’re definitely quite far, but it is still maybe a day or so away from where we live now. Those walls you want are going to need to be thick and tall if that was the sort of monster we’re looking at. One of them is fine, but imagine a hundred of them..."

"That would be a lot~ of steaks, wouldn’t it~? Imagine the feast after we killed all of them..."

She was practically drooling at the thought, making me roll my eyes even as I decided to be generous and make the steaks the instant we got back home since she seemed to be yearning for that quite a lot.

Since it was just the two of us we were traveling through the plains quickly and relatively quietly, with the Demoness only causing ’trouble’ once an hour whenever she decided to trail behind me and just devour me with her eyes.

Only one time did she request a break, and I was surprised when it had been only one time for that one break; I had been expecting - and somewhat anticipating - more, yet we were moving efficiently towards our goal of this Dungeon that was nearest to our new city.
