CHAPTER 1476: CHAPTER 1475: TIME TO HUNT (2)

I stepped to the side and watched as my blue skinned hunk rushed forwards to meet the monster head on, her gladius glittering in her hand as she prepared to engage this tri-horned monster in close quarters combat.

Taking a passive stance and just observing, I got to see the raw strength of my wife on full display as she coated her left arm in golden mana and used it as a shield to block the ramming attack of the monster, pushing its head to the side and allowing her to plunge her gladius into its thick neck.

The blade sunk into its flesh and drew out an enraged roar as it attempted to shake Jahi away, which of course only worsened the wound as the blade jostled around against its muscles; blood spurted free and painted the grass around them as Jahi hit something important, though the adrenaline and mana inside of the monster’s veins mitigated the damage it felt drastically.

Before she could be thrown around or potentially dragged with the monster, Jahi yanked her gladius free and pushed the monster’s head further away from herself, avoiding the sharp blades of wind that eviscerated the vegetation beneath of them.

I saw her hesitate with the gladius, the easy target of that thick neck calling to her to end this quick, but she wasn’t wanting to make this quick... yet at the same time she needed to because we didn’t have an abundance of time to waste.

So without any additional hesitation she stabbed the bull again and again, targeting its spine and causing the beast to drop when she finally severed the nerves and tissues that helped this massive monster remain standing.

It was anticlimactic and not the battle that Jahi was yearning for, but it was what needed to be done; with the monster dead I just sucked it up into the storage bracelet and gestured for her to continue following me, where I was able to just have her take on the one or two monsters that lumbered on over at random.

Making sure we were never overextending or making too much noise wasn’t that difficult since I just summoned bubbles of wind that isolated us whenever I needed them, and doing so didn’t cost me much nor take away from Jahi’s fun.

I was working us over towards that large spire of rock that looked like it had some sort of ’disease’ with all of these geodes jutting out of its surface, hoping that this was potentially a way for us to make a whole lot of coin.

At the very least keeping us from spending a lot of coin on materials for Anput to play around with would be a very important thing on its own, which in turn could hopefully lead to some more coin...

Not that I really knew what we would use the coin for since we could make a majority of what we wanted, but it was just that sort of thinking that made me want to have mountains of coin sitting in a vault.

You never knew when something utterly fascinating or impressive would come up for sale, and considering we would have traders coming in that were somehow related to the Demon Clans just made me all the more certain that I was going to need to start getting a little greedy.

Even if we weren’t getting a plethora of amazing ores I was still willing to bet the things we could make with these monsters would be worth a lot of coin, so I was still happy to learn more about this place since it would likely become one of our primary sources of income going forwards.

Each monster that we took down was an unknown amount of money on top of being a source of food for our family, and these spires would hopefully be another source of money; they were quite well guarded though, and as such I was having to join in on the ’hunting’ just to make sure Jahi wasn’t overwhelmed.

The dagger in my hand had only a few enchantments helping it along, and I was also abiding by the ’rule’ we had come up with of not using magic to make the fight itself easier since we needed this sort of release.

This time though we were fighting against human sized serpents with arms that were wielding heavy branches, rocks and sometimes a rusted weapon, all of which weren’t terribly dangerous to us... until they were coated in Metal Mana.

How or why these monsters had something so advanced was beyond me, but it did make it all the more thrilling to battle with them since it made the fights difficult to a certain degree, even more so when we were limiting ourselves.

The clattering of my dagger against a stone covered in Metal Mana was a bit harsh on my ears, but the way my blade slid off of the serpent’s weapon and plunged into its shoulder more than made up for it.

Burying it to the hilt, I twisted my dagger and snapped the bones with just a little bit of raw mana, unable to help myself since the sharp hiss of pain was doing something to me... something that I was so accustomed to yet hadn’t felt in a little while now.

Snapping those bones rendered its arm useless, causing it to drop its stone and allowing me to slowly slide the blade free before stabbing it’s ’belly’ and pulling the blade upwards, opening it up straight up the middle and making it writhe in agony before it flopped to the side.

As soon as I did that the serpent a few feet away let out an enraged hiss before slithering over, trying to pierce my skull with a rusted spear to avenge its fallen clutch mate; that sort of emotion was fascinating to see in a monster, and it made it all the sweeter when I immediately stabbed it straight in the eye, ending its hopes immediately while still getting more of what I wanted from it.
