CHAPTER 56: INFINITE HAND MIYABI

Amber didn’t disturb the mother-son duo as they continued to argue over nonsensical and stupid stuff that would make one label them as ridiculous.

But all Amber saw was a loving mother who was spoiling her son with all her love and a son who was willing to be spoiled. Even though they were arguing, all Amber saw in their eyes was warmth for each other.

One more thing she noticed was how the meal was untouched, and she quickly understood they were waiting for her.

Unknowingly, she had begun to smile more in Leon’s presence, and it was even more now that she was seeing this dramatic duo. She couldn’t even remember the last time she truly felt so happy over such small gestures.

It was quite a comedic scene since Evelyn was weaving hand signs quickly while Leon waited patiently before replying aggressively.

’I wonder if I would have this kind of relationship if...’

She didn’t continue that thought as she didn’t want to ruin her good mood and went to sit at the table. Only then did the two of them break off their petty argument and turn towards her.

Then, they behaved as if nothing had been happening between them a moment ago, which baffled Amber, and she gained a new understanding of this duo.

’They really like to do whatever as long as it makes them happy.’

She then glanced at the table full of delicious food, and the aroma made her stomach growl. She had transcended mortality, so she didn’t really need food to survive, but it didn’t mean she didn’t like eating delicacies.

"She made a lot of them. Just eat whatever you want," Leon said.

Amber didn’t stand on ceremony, and the three of them began to eat as they decided to talk afterwards. The food was making their minds focus only on it, after all.

As Amber took the first bite, her mind buzzed, and her eyes widened in surprise. She gave a thumbs-up to Evelyn, forgot all about her manners, and began to eat in her usual style... which was like a wild animal’s.

Leon rolled his eyes at her behaviour, but even he wasn’t doing any better. Even though he grew up eating this food, he still couldn’t get enough of it.

On the other hand, Evelyn could only shake her head in disappointment while looking at Leon and thought, ’Mannerless child!’

But she didn’t think much of Amber.

No one spoke during the eating time, but the atmosphere was full of life as the two of them devoured every portion on the table.

Only Evelyn was the sophisticated one at the table as she ate with elegance and quietly. She was in such contrast to these two wild kids, but even that didn’t seem to disturb her calmness.

Once the table was cleared, Amber was looking at Evelyn with clear stars in her eyes. She grinned and asked, "Can I trouble you every day for making me food too? It’s great—no, it’s the best thing I’ve eaten in my life. You’re the best."

"Of course. Whose mother do you think she is?" Leon proudly raised his head and said with a smile.

Evelyn glanced at her son in clear disappointment, which irked Leon, before she turned towards Amber and said, ’It’s no problem at all. You clearly have a close relationship with Leo, so you’re always welcome here.’

"Then don’t regret giving me this permission, ’cause I’m gonna fully abuse it," Amber grinned even wider upon getting the permission.

"Oii! I know my mom makes the best food, but don’t make her tired," Leon warned her, but that only earned him a glare from Amber and a smack from his mother.

He felt betrayed, so he stood up and left in anger. One was supposed to be his backing and the other was his mother, so why were they ganging up on him?

’Whatever. I’ll be the mature one and forgive them.’

Meanwhile, Evelyn was left rubbing her forehead in frustration. She gave a smile to Amber and said, ’I am sorry for his words. He’s just worried about me and means no harm. You can come whenever you want and request any kind of food. I enjoy feeding people who appreciate it.’

"You don’t need to apologise, Evelyn. Can I call you that?" Amber asked, since she felt too awkward with all the formalities.

’Of course. I’ll also call you Amber then.’

"Yeah, that’s better," Amber nodded. "And you really don’t need to worry about his words. He might act dramatic, but he has a mature mind. It’s just that he becomes defensive when it comes to you."

Evelyn sighed and nodded. ’Yes, he’s really dramatic.’

Amber chuckled and said, "By the way, I’m very good with souls, so can I take a look at your soul?"

Seeing her body stiffening, she added, "I’m very proficient, so I can do it without causing you any pain."

’It isn’t that,’ Evelyn pursed her lips before continuing. ’It was very difficult to control the corruption inside me, but I’m afraid even a slight change can cause it to erupt again. I don’t want to take any more risks.’

"I understand your sentiments, but I can assure you that I can handle this," Amber said, placing her hand over hers but not doing anything else. "I’m a Tier 11 Ascended, and even my Master used to say that my talent in souls and the mind is second to none."

She paused before adding, "And you might know my master. Her name is Miyabi, also known as The Infinite Hand Miyabi."

Evelyn’s eyes widened in shock upon hearing that as she asked, ’Are you really her student?’

Amber nodded before taking out a picture which she showed to Evelyn. "I hope you give me at least one chance. I know it can be dangerous, but I swear I’ll withdraw even at the slightest sign of trouble."

Evelyn was still conflicted, but the fact that Amber was Miyabi’s student put her heart at ease. Eventually, she nodded and said, ’Then, please be careful.’

Amber beamed with a smile and came over to her side while asking, "I was just planning to use her reputation for my advantage, but it seems like there’s some history between you two."

Evelyn nodded and responded, ’She was the one who helped me when I was about to lose control 20 years ago and also the one who helped in the delivery of Leo.’

Amber paused and whispered, "To think we would share such a fate. The world really is small."

She didn’t doubt Evelyn’s words at all because she knew how random her master was and how much she liked helping people. There was no way she would have left Evelyn alone in that condition.

Taking a deep breath, she calmed her mind completely and spent another minute in that state. She was diving in to check someone’s soul, and it was a very risky move.

Even a slight mishap could result in the eruption of corruption.

Only when she was completely calm and there were no unnecessary thoughts in her mind did she put her hands on Evelyn’s forehead and close her eyes.

It was time to dive into another’s soul.
