CHAPTER 91: FIVE YEARS

Leon was quite surprised. He didn’t expect Natasha to actually notice the guards Amber had sent to protect him and his mother. They were elites whom even he couldn’t sense, yet she had noticed them so easily.

’Interesting development.’

He smiled at her and nodded. If those guards were moving, then there was likely one more attempt to kidnap or murder him. Even if it was pointless, his enemies were doing it just to annoy Amber and basically keep them alert all the time.

It was a good strategy, but Leon hated them for it because they were throwing away human lives as if they were too disposable.

He shook off those thoughts and focused on enjoying his time with everyone. He trusted Amber enough to know she would handle it.

He was too weak for involvement anyway.

The rest of his afternoon went by playing around with everyone. With the addition of his friends, the house felt fuller and livelier.

Most of all, Leon could see that it made Evelyn very happy. He didn’t joke when he always said that she treated the world as her children.

Evelyn was always fond of kids and felt joy in their happiness. She liked their company, which also became the reason she always helped in the orphanage and other areas.

This was also the reason he agreed to let his friends come to his house. Even if she didn’t show it much, Leon knew she was still hurting for Silver.

This woman would always hurt herself too much just because her children were suffering.

Leon didn’t come back home just for himself. He wanted to make her happy too, and this gathering of so many people certainly helped with it.

It made him super happy as well.

While playing lots of games, they also conversed and grew closer to each other. Whether it was Denver, Bella, or even Natasha, they had experienced the real world, so they bonded well with the kids who had just stepped into it.

As for Rani, she was mostly staying close to Evelyn for some reason. Even though there were a lot of times where they couldn’t properly communicate, she patiently stayed near Evelyn.

She had a smile the whole time she spent with her.

Leon stood at the wall as he watched everything with a smile on his face. All of a sudden, he felt a gust of wind at his side, and he already knew who it was.

"I thought you would be jealous," Amber said.

"Who said I’m not jealous?" Leon asked.

"You are? Then how come you’re smiling and allowing all of this?" Amber asked in amusement.

"It’s because I’m a filial son who can sacrifice his happiness for his mother’s happiness," Leon replied with a sad expression.

Amber gave him a look before saying, "I found something. There really was a mole in the management team that manages the Rune Formations. Two to be exact."

Leon’s expression hardened as he closed his eyes to control his anger, ’Those bastards...’

Amber shuffled his hair lightly and said, "I investigated every single one of them and found something surprising. The moles had been in the branch for the last five years."

"That long?" Leon muttered in mild surprise. "We came to the City of Vale seven years ago. So they’ve likely discovered us five years ago and began planning..."

"Yes. I’m guessing they planted their moles in a lot of places in case a few failed," Amber said. "If I begin to investigate everything, it’ll consume too much time and resources."

"Don’t bother. Also, what did you do with those moles?" Leon asked.

"I wanted to do a lot of things to them," Amber said with a twisted smile. "But I decided to use the quota of my patience. Nobody knows about my interference yet."

"Good! I really thought you would blow everything up," Leon heaved a sigh of relief.

"Am I that kind of woman in your eyes?"

"Aren’t you?"

"Can’t deny that. I did have thoughts of just blasting them off."

Leon shook his head and said, "We can just keep an eye on them for the time being. But I also feel that it won’t be so simple."

"You think so?"

"Yes, just like the last time with Silver, they already had a Plan B," Leon nodded and said in an emotionless tone. "The Flame Knight Dungeon incident wasn’t for me at all. It was a Plan B to kill Silver for good. But it would have made things too suspicious."

"So you know?" Amber asked with a faint smile. "As always, I can’t help but be impressed by your perception."

"It’s not that deep. Even an idiot can guess this," Leon shook his head.

"You have questions?" Amber asked, looking at him from the corner of her eyes.

"Yes."

"Aren’t you going to ask?"

"No," Leon replied flatly. "It isn’t my place to interfere, but I hope you inform whoever they are that I hate them."

Amber’s mouth hung open hearing that as she asked, "Even though they protected you and Silver from the shadows?"

"For that I’m really grateful," Leon gritted his teeth and tried to keep his voice level. "But whose fault do you think it is that we needed so much protection? Whose fault do you think it is that Silver is in this situation?"

Amber remained silent.

"You always say I have good perception, then let me tell you, I inherited it from my mother," Leon said. "She discovered something five years ago — that we were being watched by someone."

Amber’s eyes widened hearing that.

"But she didn’t feel any hostile intentions from them. She was also weaker than them, so she pretended as if everything was normal," Leon’s voice was icy cold as he continued.

"She couldn’t sleep properly for days in fear that something might happen to her children. Her health began deteriorating. It was a period where I felt so scared that even till now, nothing can come close to it."

Amber could feel his emotions and clenched her fists. She could already imagine the situation and what Evelyn had to go through at that time.

For Evelyn, her children were everything, and danger surrounded her every single moment, as if waiting for her to sleep or lose sight of her children for just a moment so it could reveal itself.

The despair she must have felt... the hopelessness she must have felt... all alone...

Just thinking about all of that made Amber’s anger rise higher than ever. She took a deep breath and said, her lips cracking into a menacing smile, "I might really hit her this time."

Leon turned towards her and said, "You don’t need to make relationships bad for us."

"We’ll see," Amber snorted.

"You really don’t have to," Leon sighed. "My mom just likes to pretend to keep herself happy, but she’s more intelligent than me. It didn’t take long for her to figure out the situation, so she doesn’t even hate them. Well, it isn’t like that woman is capable of hating anyone."

"Just because she isn’t doesn’t mean others would be the same," Amber said. "Don’t bother stopping me. She deserves a solid punch for this and nothing can stop me."

Leon knew nothing could change her mind in a situation like this, so he instead continued their previous topic.

"The reason it’s their fault is because we received protection five years ago."

Amber’s body shook hearing that, and for a while, she couldn’t even believe it.
