My Stubborn Soul Card Follower
Chapter 47: Alice, Evil God’s Follower
CHAPTER 47: CHAPTER 47: ALICE, EVIL GOD’S FOLLOWER
The vision of Shen Sui’s deck for the Puppet card set was never realized, but with the addition of the subsequent three Puppet follower cards, totaling six in all, Shen Sui felt that it was necessary for Alice to obtain the form of a Puppet Mage.
His deck is now only missing a search term.
At least for now, he hasn’t found a good way to address it, and can only blame the ridiculous Life Card Duel rules for not having the concept of races.
No concept of races? Well, can’t you come up with a concept of professions!
It’s really baffling, and he wonders how those professional players managed to put together a fully formed deck with search capabilities.
No wonder so few people can ascend to the professional level at the Duel Academy.
Forget it, better not to think too much, quickly write down the effects of these two Puppet follower cards, and then entice Alice to cause trouble to help him cycle cards.
Shen Sui looked at the interface showing two cards with blank effect and Spirit Value sections, urgently needing him to fill in their values.
To say it’s blank isn’t quite appropriate either.
Once Shen Sui assigned functions to the two Puppets, their effect sections filled with suggested effects, indicating that if the written effects leaned towards the suggested ones, it could allow the card to harbor more powerful effects.
The suggested effect for the Substitute Puppet leaned towards damage negation, and Shen Sui planned to design it similarly to the Chestnut Ball hand-trap.
However, the Substitute Puppet could possibly accommodate additional effects.
Shen Sui pondered what was missing from his deck.
There were plenty of traps and board-clears, but what it really lacked was a search ability, particularly the ability to search for follower cards.
As long as he could search Alice from the deck, Shen Sui wouldn’t lack the ability to search spell cards.
Thus, Shen Sui hurriedly penned on the cards.
******
Card Name: [Substitute Puppet · Jamie]
Category: Follower Card
Star Level: 5 Stars
Effect: ① In the event that you receive battle damage or effect damage, you can discard this card from your hand during damage calculation to reduce the damage you take to 0;
② Once per turn, you can banish this card from the graveyard to add one follower card with multiple forms from the deck, graveyard, or banished zone to your hand.
Spirit Value: 0

Following a similar thought process, Shen Sui edited the effects of [Armed Puppet · Soya] and obtained a particularly powerful Puppet follower card.
******
Card Name: [Armed Puppet · Soya]
Category: Follower Card
Star Level: 5 Stars
Effect: ① Once per turn, during the main phase, after resolving your spell card’s effect, return that spell card to the hand;
② Once per turn, upon this follower leaving the field, trigger to allow one follower card on either side with multiple forms to undergo an extra form transformation.
Spirit Value: 0
******
[Armed Puppet · Soya]’s ① effect pertains to the armed Puppet’s function itself, which is to instantly refresh a player’s skill during gameplay.
The ② effect, however, was born from Shen Sui’s whimsical idea.
It is well known that in all card games, mechanics limited to once per turn exist for a reason, and skills or effects that lift these limitations can result in certain applications with substantial potency.
Whether it’s the once-use restriction on Kill-Wine in Three Kingdoms Kill, or the single attack restriction during the battle phase, it’s the same.
In Life Card Duel, Soul Card’s form transformation is also limited to once per turn.
Now, what if I could allow Soul Cards to transform an extra time?
Indeed, this effect turned out to be far more powerful than Shen Sui had imagined. He was compelled to reduce Soya’s Spirit Value to zero, minimize the ① effect from thrice per turn to once, and restrict the effect to trigger only upon Soya leaving the field, just to barely get the effect written down.
He couldn’t even add damage immunity effects.
He could only resort to using liberation anyway. Liberation counts as leaving the field after all.
Why make this effect selectable for either side’s Soul Card? Well, because a form transformation is partly a way to deal with the opponent’s powerful followers, isn’t it?
Your Soul Card’s effect is too strong? Look who’s altering its form.
Having acquired three follower cards at once, Shen Sui was filled with a sense of the trip being worthwhile.
With that sense of fulfillment, he returned his gaze to the homepage’s Alice.
Having completed the Sacrificial Puppet’s creation, Alice now had the courage to traverse the Anlud Thunder Church.
Previously, she’d been worried that prematurely initiating the ritual of the Evil God’s descent might harm the residents of Anlud City, but now she had no concerns at all. No matter how the ritual impacts the citizens, this magic array created by Vivian would transfer it all onto Alice.
Would it affect Alice?
If not for some trump cards, Shen Sui wouldn’t dare take his Soul Card to risks.
If Vivian could avoid damage and impact due to her special ability, then Alice had her Substitute Puppet to transfer damage, her matchbox to resist liberation, and her magic to fend off various spirit contaminations. In some sense, Alice, while still a novice, was momentarily in a stage where no one could harm her.
The only pity was that, due to the effect of the Sinful Chalice, recovery was no longer beneficial to Alice. Else, she’d be even more invincible.
Of course, Alice probably still didn’t realize she was already stacked with buffs, otherwise she’d likely have already set fire to the Thunder Church and started face-rushing.
[Thoroughly prepared, Alice arrived alone at Anlud Thunder Church.]
[She ensured Anna was safely settled somewhere, refusing to let her contact any scene with supernatural powers until escaping the Sinful Chalice’s grasp.]
[Alice gazed at the majestic church, calculating the possibility of setting it ablaze.]
Told you, right on cue.
Shen Sui wasn’t surprised at all.
[Though Alice was eager to try, she remembered the agreement with you; she needed to initiate the Evil God’s descent ritual to help you absorb the Evil God’s power.]
Alright, next step is delivering the goods, staying put, waiting for the opponent to start the ritual, then launching a sneak attack to seize the Evil God’s power.
Alice should know how to cling on... right?
[Alice knocked on the door of Anlud Thunder Church.]
[It was evening, the sunset drowning between the hills, leaving only orange-red afterglow pouring down, settling onto Alice.]
[Basking in the sun’s residual warmth, Alice quickly adjusted her mindset and expression.]
[Her hands rhythmically knocked on the church’s door, as though playing a mysterious melody.]
[Creak—]
[The church door opened, revealing an elderly bent figure who questioned Alice’s reason for visiting.]
[Alice sported a wicked grin, showing no reverence for the Master of Thunder whatsoever: I assume you’re expecting this.]
[She produced the Eye of the Evil God before the old man.]
[The old man’s face subtly shifted, and simultaneously, a powerful force surged from within the church, locking onto Alice, ready to unleash Thunder’s wrath and smite her into dust at any moment.]
[Alice clutched the Eye of the Evil God close to her chest, her eyes manic and face depicting the delirium of a fanatic: I am my master’s most devout disciple, obeying my master’s commands, here to guide you along the path forward.]
[You may call me Hozerville.]
