My Super Sassy Dad: Stop Running Away, Mrs. Quinn!
Chapter 40: Shielded the Wrong Person
CHAPTER 40: CHAPTER 40: SHIELDED THE WRONG PERSON
Jean Gage stared at her serious expression, paused for a moment, and actually believed her a little.
But her hands forcefully tugged at Melody Thorne’s clothes, and the other girls began to lay hands on Melody as well.
"Stop it, don’t fight," Ivy walked over to them, pretending to break it up with her hands.
"Ivy, help me, help me," Melody Thorne cast a pleading look at her, "Please tell them, three days ago I was with you at Radiant Bar, I didn’t steal their things."
"Yes, yes, she didn’t steal anything," Ivy replied without thinking, assuming it was just Jean Gage and her gang’s excuse to teach Melody a lesson, not giving it much thought.
"I’m telling the truth," Melody Thorne sneered and continued, "That day, Ivy asked me to entertain a commercial investor, but the investor found me too dim-witted, so I waited outside the bar for her all night. I really didn’t steal your things; Ivy can testify."
The women kept on tugging at her, and Jean Gage was only pretending to act suspicious, but Ivy didn’t know and intentionally pinched Melody while pulling at her.
Hearing Melody’s words, Ivy found her talkative but had to nod because Jared Quinn’s gaze was directed their way.
She had to play the good person.
Seeing her nod, Jean Gage narrowed her eyes.
Melody Thorne added, "That investor asked you to find other pretty girls to entertain him in exchange for advertising resources, did you?"
"Yes, I did," Ivy admitted straight away, her mind only focused on pinching Melody a few more times to vent her anger.
The words "Yes, I did" were heard clearly by the women gathered around, especially Jean Gage.
Ivy belatedly realized what she’d said, trying to move her gaze away from Melody to explain, but suddenly she was pushed, crashing hard into a glass table by the pool.
"Ah—" Ivy screamed, looking utterly disheveled, her body seemingly fractured, and her forehead bruised, as others in the hall gathered around.
Jean Gage, being straightforward, was about to step forward to teach her a lesson and vent her anger, but Melody Thorne pulled her back, "It’s not the right time to offend her now."
Jean Gage turned her head to look at Melody Thorne, sensing something had changed about her, but couldn’t quite put her finger on it, "Don’t think I’ll take your side in the future!"
"Whatever," Melody Thorne turned languidly, tidied up her clothes, and walked out, feeling that enough had happened today.
"Mr. Quinn,"
Ivy’s voice came from behind, with a sob, "Will you take me to the hospital?"
Melody Thorne paused for a moment, involuntarily looking back, only to see Ivy pulling down her shoulder with her fingers, revealing a scar there.
Jared Quinn, who had initially intended to follow Melody, also stopped, his gaze landing on the scar on Ivy’s shoulder, his expression somewhat complex.
Melody Thorne curved her lips, striding away, her delicate fingertips grazing her own shoulder where there was a similar scar.
The scar was because of Jared Quinn. If he knew he had protected the wrong person, that it was her in the pool when they were kids, would he regret it?
At the corner, a figure squatted behind Melody Thorne’s car, the youth’s face painted almost unrecognizably, his clothes tattered, squatting on the ground like a fool playing with a turtle, yet his gaze was chilling.
