Chapter 402 - 400: The Ambiguity Under the Dining Table
CHAPTER 402: CHAPTER 400: THE AMBIGUITY UNDER THE DINING TABLE
After taking two small bites of each dish she liked, Wen Qiao decided not to eat any more. Just then, the clear stewed old duck soup made its way in front of her. She picked up the soup spoon and began to ladle soup into her bowl.
Soup accidentally splashed onto the back of her hand, causing Wen Qiao to shrink back slightly, her brows instantly furrowing.
Her lips moved slightly as if she were muttering something to herself.
Fu Jinghen noticed this, a glint of amusement crossing his eyes.
His hand, which had been resting on the table, casually dropped down, reaching out to the side.
No one but Fu Jinghen noticed that Wen Qiao’s spoon-holding hand paused for two seconds, then she continued to bring the spoon to her mouth.
The man’s fingers brushed lightly over the spot where the soup had splashed her, seemingly to provide comfort.
While drinking the soup, Wen Qiao stealthily glanced at Fu Jinghen.
Director Li was chatting with him, and he had a faint smile on his face, nodding occasionally to show he was listening attentively.
If it wasn’t for the hand resting on the back of hers reminding her, Wen Qiao would never have known that he was paying attention to her every move.
This man seemed to be more and more capable of stirring her heart.
Wen Qiao withdrew her wandering gaze, her wrist moved, her palm aligned with Fu Jinghen’s, and her fingers slid between his, eventually locking together smoothly.
Just then, Director Li happened to raise his wine glass. Fu Jinghen’s gesture of picking up his own glass paused ever so slightly before continuing.
Their glasses clinked with a crisp sound, and the moment the rim touched his lips, Fu Jinghen’s fingers drew back, as if filled with a firm emotion, entwining with Wen Qiao’s.
The dinner lasted nearly one and a half hours before it finally concluded.
Before heading back to their rooms, Director Li specifically reminded Qi Ming to explain the specific process of their program to Fu Jinghen.
Qi Ming hesitated for a moment, "Director Li, do we have something called a ’specific process’ for our program?"
"..."
Apparently not.
Contemplative, Qi Ming rubbed his chin, "Then, why not think of one now? Tell me, and I’ll go and explain it to my ’little uncle’?"
Director Li gave him a look, "Don’t think I don’t know what you’re up to. I won’t let you have a strategy to handle it."
With that, Director Li let go of his grasp and turned to leave with long strides.
Qi Ming: "..."
Really, there’s no trust between people.

The program started its live broadcast punctually at five in the afternoon, with the production team releasing a teaser video on their official Weibo fifteen minutes in advance to warm up the audience.
The teaser wasn’t much of a story, just compiling and integrating amusing incidents that happened during last Sunday’s episode and releasing them, interspersed with some reaction images made for the resident MCs by the production team. And at the end of the video, there was a thirty-second black screen.
"Mystery guest, please look forward to it."
These eight words appeared on the screen accompanied by the sound of keyboard typing.
Just as the audience was eagerly anticipating the mystery guest, the colors of the originally normal white characters on the screen suddenly turned red, spreading from top to bottom like fresh blood. Upon closer inspection, one could even see a faint ghost face behind the text.
In the last two seconds, just before the video ended, a sudden tinkling laugh rang out. Combined with the imagery on the screen, it instantly maxed out the horror atmosphere.
The audience had a strong reaction to this.
[...Did I just watch a horror variety show?]
[Thanks, I got scared.]
