CHAPTER 589: CHAPTER 587: I’VE ONLY COAXED YOU

Wen Qiao stood beside him and followed his lead in picking vegetables. "Did you used to help Sister Fu Qiang?" she asked, tapping his hand with a green bean she held.

She couldn’t think of any other reason why Fu Jinghen, who seemed like someone indistinguishable and not diligent with grains and pulses, would possess any kitchen skills, other than helping Fu Qiang.

"Yes," Fu Jinghen replied, taking the green bean from Wen Qiao’s hand and deftly snapping off the ends to toss into the basin. "Sister really enjoys cooking but hates cleaning up. She always leaves the kitchen in a mess and is too embarrassed to let the housemaid see it, so she makes me clean up. She gets mad if I don’t let her into the kitchen, and after many times, I got tired of arguing with her and just let her be."

"Oh..." Wen Qiao leaned forward, invading his line of sight, "I also don’t like to clean up. I only enjoy cooking."

Fu Jinghen glanced at her. "Noted."

"What did you notice?" Wen Qiao asked, feigning ignorance.

"I noticed that you don’t like cleaning up, so I’ll take care of it afterward."

"Ah..." Wen Qiao blinked. "Wouldn’t that be troubling for you?"

Fu Jinghen was very agreeable to her. "Not at all, it’s voluntary."

"You said it, I didn’t force you."

"Yeah," Fu Jinghen said, "You can record it as proof."

"I wouldn’t. That’s so childish. I trust you."

Fu Jinghen’s hands paused, and he looked up at Wen Qiao with a deep gaze, emotions swirling in his eyes.

"..."

Wen Qiao was stunned.

Had she said something that touched on Fu Jinghen’s sensitive spot?

It caused such a big reaction in him.

Facing Fu Jinghen’s intense gaze, the fingers Wen Qiao had propped on the table curled up. She felt a bit flustered and turned her face away, grabbing a handful of green beans and snapping them to change the topic, "You and Sister Fu Qiang are so close, the skills you have in making me happy must have been nurtured by her, right?"

"No, she doesn’t need me to cajole her," Fu Jinghen said in a flat tone.

Wen Qiao glared fiercely at him. "Are you saying that I love to throw temper tantrums?"

"..."

Fu Jinghen was a bit speechless at her slow reaction.

"What I mean is, I’ve only ever coaxed you."

Wen Qiao instantly quieted down, mimicking Fu Jinghen’s earlier manner of speaking, "Oh, is that so."

After finishing with the green beans, Fu Jinghen carried the basin and turned to walk towards the sink, turning on the faucet to rinse the vegetables.

Wen Qiao followed him with slow, shuffling steps, without looking at or speaking to him.

Fu Jinghen looked up at her strangely, "What’s wrong?"

"Hmm?" Wen Qiao shook her head. "Nothing’s wrong."

Suddenly, Fu Jinghen laughed, his voice low and tender, "Why are you all of a sudden sticking close to me?"

"..."

She hadn’t realized it until he brought it up, but then she understood that, once again, she had been sticking close to him without meaning to.

If it had been before, Wen Qiao would have openly admitted it, but now, being the one pursued, she had to maintain her pride and couldn’t afford to let him see through her secret desires.

She crossed her arms over her chest, lifted her chin, and wore a haughty expression, "Qi Ming’s vanity must be inherited from you, right? I’m just here to supervise you so you don’t slack off when I’m not watching."

"Is that so?" Fu Jinghen reached out as if to touch the spot near Wen Qiao’s ear. "Then why are your ears red?"

Wen Qiao’s hand moved subconsciously, wanting to touch her own ear, but when it was halfway there, seeing Fu Jinghen’s teasing smile, her eyes cooled down, "Are you saying you don’t want to eat?"
