CHAPTER 87: UNFINISHED BUSINESS

A short time later, the police and coroner arrived. They immediately sealed off the construction site with yellow tape and took a statement from Dylan, who had first discovered the body. After that, they also spoke with the project manager in the temporary office along with Dylan.

As the police officer, who was actually a female detective, was speaking with the project manager, Dylan glanced at the clown-dressed ghost girl beside him. The clown turned to look at Dylan, her face conveying a look of deep gratitude.

[Hmmm... so that’s it.]

"What is it?" Dylan asked in his head.

[She says that besides her, there are several bodies of children buried near her. She was actually a kindergarten teacher who happened to be at a party and was returning from school after dropping off some children, unaware she was still wearing the clown outfit. After that, something happened to them.]

"Hmm... I see," Dylan muttered in his head. "Excuse me, Detective, it seems the surrounding area should be dug up again because there’s a chance there are still other bodies," Dylan said.

The detective and the project manager turned to look at Dylan, who had suddenly made a suggestion to them. The detective turned to face Dylan.

"Why do you think that?" the detective asked.

"Hm... maybe it’s just a feeling," Dylan answered casually.

Suddenly, the office door opened. A police officer and a construction worker entered. They reported that the skeleton’s hand was holding another skeleton’s hand next to it when it was being evacuated. When they dug around it, they found two small children’s skeletons right next to it and one more child’s skeleton a short distance from the main skeleton, but still within the same area.

After directing the police officer and construction worker to evacuate all the skeletons there, the detective and the project manager turned to look at Dylan, who seemed relaxed but was forcing a smile because he was nervous.

"How could you possibly know that? Do you know whose skeletons these are?" the suddenly suspicious detective asked.

"Um... like I said, I was just relying on a feeling. I don’t know who they are," Dylan answered stammering.

[Her name is Megan, 23 years old, a recently hired kindergarten teacher.]

"Now is not the time to give that information, I can be a suspect, you know," Dylan said in his heart.

The detective, named Rachel Garcia, continued to observe Dylan, as did the project manager, Austin, whose face became very serious staring at Dylan. Finally, Dylan raised his finger, and when they both looked at Dylan’s finger, they were instantly hypnotized. Their eyes became vacant, and they didn’t take their gaze off Dylan’s finger.

"Listen, Detective Rachel and Mr. Austin, I don’t know anything about the bodies that were found, and I don’t understand what happened to them. So, don’t suspect me. I can see the ghost and got the information from the ghost. You must believe me, understand?" Dylan asked.

Rachel and Austin nodded, then "Ctak," Dylan snapped his fingers. Rachel and Austin immediately snapped out of it, then they looked at Dylan with a non-suspicious gaze, just like before.

"So you can see the ghost, and she told you?" Rachel asked.

"That’s exactly right, ma’am," Dylan answered.

"Hmm... so that’s it," Mason muttered, as if seeing ghosts was common and normal.

"Thank you, Mr. Dylan. You’ve helped us and given your statement. You may leave. I need to speak with Mr. Austin for a moment," Rachel said.

"Alright. Thank you, ma’am. Excuse me, ma’am and Mr. Austin," Dylan replied, standing up.

Then Dylan left the office. After closing the door, "Hoof," he let out a sigh of relief. After that, he saw many construction workers being sent home because the construction site was temporarily shut down until the evacuation and investigation were complete.

Dylan took off his helmet and carried it. He walked toward the gate, accompanied by the clown ghost named Megan, but when they reached the exit gate, "Duk," Megan got stuck and couldn’t leave. Dylan stopped and turned to look at Megan, who looked sad but didn’t say anything.

"Wait, why can’t she leave?" Dylan asked.

[Because the problem is not finished, she is still tied to this place. It seems we have to come back here when it’s deserted.]

"Hmm... I see. Alright, please tell her that we’ll come back tonight," Dylan replied in his head.

KATS immediately informed Megan that they would return later. Although Megan’s face looked sad, she smiled and nodded, then she turned and slowly floated back inside, heading toward where her body lay. Dylan then drove home in the car that Ryan had brought to his current city.

Midnight. Dylan returned in his car and parked a good distance from the police-guarded construction site. After getting out, Dylan looked behind him.

"Why are you two coming along?" Dylan asked in his head.

"It’s a day off tomorrow, Big Brother," Aaron replied.

"Yep, going out at night once in a while can’t hurt, right?" Clara added.

"We’re not here to play games, you know," Dylan said.

"Yup, you already told us, Big Brother. Since none of the sisters-in-law wanted to join, it’s just me and Clara coming along," Aaron replied.

"Ok... ok... let’s go, and don’t freak out if we meet Megan, the clown," Dylan said.

"Got it. I’m not scared," Aaron replied.

They walked toward the construction site gate while remaining invisible. A police car was parked right in front of the gate with two police officers inside guarding the site. Dylan saw the gate, which was locked and marked by police caution tape. Then he looked at Aaron and Clara and nodded. They both nodded back. Then they jumped over the fence to get inside. "Duk... duk... duk," the sound of their feet running slightly above the top of the fence wall was heard.

The two police officers in the car immediately looked toward the gate and shined a flashlight at the fence, then they examined the fence, but nothing was there.

"Hmm... did you hear something?" asked the first police officer.

"Yeah... but there’s nothing there," replied the second, heavy-set police officer while eating a donut.

"Maybe it’s just our imagination," the first police officer replied, taking a donut from the box.

"Yeah, this is an easy job. Don’t eat all the donuts," the second police officer said.

"Yeah, yeah... no way I’d eat them all. I’m not as fat as you," the first police officer replied.

Inside, Dylan, Aaron, and Clara ran toward the parking structure construction where Megan’s body had been found. Then they saw the police caution tape bounding the site and stepped inside. After that, they looked at the hole where Megan’s skeleton was no longer present, but suddenly, "Waaaaah," Clara jumped and hugged Aaron next to her, who was just as surprised. Megan appeared right next to Clara and stared at both Clara and Aaron, who were as scared as Clara was. Seeing his two siblings hugging and trembling,

"You said you weren’t scared," Dylan said in his head with a cynical smile.

"N-no, really, just surprised," Clara replied while hugging Aaron.

"Same... just surprised," Aaron added while hugging Clara.
