CHAPTER 86: CHAPTER EIGHTY-SIX: FOUND YOU!

"You damned whore." Cassian growled at her as he rose from the pile of rubble. Xavriel still hadn’t come to claim the reward for his help and it had been on his mind since then. He began to wonder if truly he had needed Elena for his cleansing.

That thought had made him question the genuinity of the man who had helped him. Why did he help him if he didn’t need her? That afternoon he had felt a strange hotness in his body. He had all the blood to drink in the world but he knew it wasn’t that.

He needed something else to warm him up and that’s when his mind went to her.

’He wouldn’t know if I touched her would he? All he needs is her blood and nothing more.’ Cassian had thought to himself but standing now in front of her, he could see clearly the reason why he wanted her.

"Get your damned body back on that bed or I’ll make sure your lover never recognizes you again."

No way was she letting this maniac have a taste of her when her own husband hadn’t.

Elena shivered on the spot and took little steps away from him. Cassian proceeded towards her, clenching his hands tightly beside him. Elena kept on moving backwards until she almost hit the window plane when suddenly Cassian leapt forward to grab her.

But she was faster. She jumped through the window before he could get to her.

Cassian rushed to the window and saw her land shakily on the bushes.

"Guards! Secure the premises! That vixen must not escape!" Cassian barked at the empty courtyard. Immediately, armed men with rifles and shotguns surrounded her within a short period. Elena, who had fallen on the bushes, stood in the middle o them as all weapons were pointed towards her.

Is this the end? Is this how I’ll just die?

Damien...

She raised her hands up in the air. Everywhere she looked, there was an angry face staring back at her with intentions of firing when given orders. She was all alone and no one was on her side.

"What are you fools waiting for?! Grab that prostitute and bring her to me!" Cassian commanded them in fuming anger.

One of the guards stepped forward to carry out the command. He had barely reached her when blinding, flashes of light emerged speedily from her body again.

Every single on of them became blind instantly.

Not one was spared.

The guards dropped their weapons and gripped their eyes. It bled profusely as I’d it had been stabbed multiple times by a crazed killer.

Elena gasped in surprised horror at what had just happened. Did I do that?

Even Cassian could only stare at the sight. That light had been so bright, if he had been there, vampire or not, his sight would have vanished.

’What are you?’ he murmured in silent shock to himself.

She may not look like it, but she was one hell of a girl. Not minding her half-nude dressing, Elena dashed towards the front gate of the palace that was a few meters from where she stood. She had no shoes on but she didn’t care. When faced with death, the only thing that truly matters is life.

Elena ran like her life depended on it...and it did. There were no guards or security chasing after her but she only picked up her pace. She was dead sure that bastard of a king wouldn’t let her go so easily so there was no time to waste.

She got to the gates in no time, sweaty and smelling of grasses. A giant, metal lock hung in front of it and she shook it hard.

"What should I do? What should I do? What should I do? What should I do? What should I do?"

She looked around for a rock, a stone, anything that could destroy the barrier in front of her. But there was nothing! Absolutely nothing!

Behind her, she could hear horse hooves getting closer and closer by each passing second she wasted.

There was no way she was letting him get her. If he did, only god knows how long he’d cage her in that dreary, dry dungeon filled with mutated monsters.

Left with no other choice, she threw caution to the wind and mounted the gate. The razor sharp bars grazed her skin as she hurled herself up its towering structure.

She looked down at her leg shaking. If just a drop of blood appeared, it would be way easier to find her.

Thankfully, there was no cut so she continued her climb in a hurry. On the top of the gate were barbed wires that looked sharp enough to kill two birds.

She stopped and looked back. She could still very much hear the sound of the horses but there was no one coming.

Hold on.

Cassian didn’t need a horse to get to her. He could just leap or appear at the gate since he saw her running in that direction.

Something wasn’t right. This was way too easy.

Elena’s mind raced in anxiety. What was that idiot planning this time? She looked over the barbed wires to the other side o the gate.

The path was free. It was the only path that led away from the palace grounds. They couldn’t be waiting for her at the other side could they?

She was in a dilemma and so confused. The little determination and hope that was ignited in her faded away completely. In its place was fear and contemplation.

It was either yes or no. Front or back.

Suddenly, the tempo of the horses approaching increased. Her heart skipped a beat.

’Maybe I’m just thinking too much.’ she said to herself and placed one leg over the barbed wire then paused.

’What if I’m not?’ another thought came up.

Discarding every single etiquette lesson she had been taught, Elena placed her other leg over it, falling face first on the cemented ground on the other side.

Her eyes darted around in terror as her body shook from the cold. She prayed miserably to whatever god that was available or watching her that she had made the right move.

Her hands roamed her entire body for wounds or cuts. It was then she finally acknowledged her bared body. The fact that she was in the middle of a life or death situation half naked hit her harder than a rock.

She tried to shake it off and focus on the mission ahead of her: surviving. A small quarter erected against the wall of the gate on the other side stood beside her. Elena rushed to it and pulled the knob.

It was locked and had a keyhole.

Her survival instincts kicked in. She rumbled through her hair, praying for at least one pin on it.

Elena’s heart leapt for joy when a sharp needle poked her finger. She took it out hurriedly but carefully, staring at it in joy for a second before attempting to pick it.

She had never done it before but had seen Adrian do it whenever he wanted to sneak out of the house for a smoke. He had always gone whenever she was on cleaning duty because he knew she wouldn’t rat him out.

Apart from the fact that she earned five gold coins on any of his escapades, Elena pretty much never cared where he went to.

She gasped as she heard a soft click. Without wasting another minute, she dashed inside, grabbed a large, coat, slammed the door till it locked up again, and ran like hell down the pathway.

Elena didn’t know where it led to. She had never left the palace ever since she was brought in as a bride. Wherever it was, she didn’t really care as long as it was far away from her present nightmare.

She continued running and running without a break of rest. There was no time to waste. Her brain didn’t have time to even think of breathing that it shocked her how she hadn’t passed out yet.

Until when faced with death, you’ll never know how much you value your life.

"If I can just keep on—ah!"

A shrilled cry escaped from her mouth as she crashed head first into a rock hard object. Her head whirred in pain as a blinding headache over took her. She fell to the floor immediately, gripping her banging head.

"Elena! Oh my god it’s you! It is you right?!" Came a loud voice followed by great hands that grabbed her shoulders.

Elena looked up at the face that was just inches away from her. Her eyes were still blurred from the force of the hit and it make it difficult for them to recognize it.

"It is you! It should be! Wake up, you can’t pass out now!"

The voice increased the banging sensation that seared through her head.

"She looks almost dead! Stop shaking her you idiot!" Came another voice a little distance away from her.

Elena heard it all but her brain just wasn’t responding.

"Wh...wha..."

Her head slumped to the side but the person holding her was quick to catch it.

"We have to get her back. She could be the one we’ve been looking for."
