CHAPTER 398: 278 CHAPTER: CANDID MEETING, UNEXPECTED REACTION_2
So, are you going or not?
"UM... I don’t mind either way."
In the end, Chu Tian decided to leave it to fate. He’d see what the others wanted to do, all while keeping a low profile and staying out of the spotlight for the time being.
"Then you should come too, just to keep me company. You know my sister, right?"
Xu Qingqiu seemed oblivious and thought for a moment before responding.
"Sure, why not."
The two of them casually agreed just like that.
The next day turned out to be uneventful. Yiyi had already bought the plane tickets for today. Since there was no rush, she had purchased tickets for late morning. This allowed them to sleep in, and they didn’t get up until after ten.
They traveled by plane and reached home a little after three in the afternoon.
Chu Tian didn’t know how Xu Qingqiu and Xu Ruyan had communicated. Shortly after he got home to rest, Xu Ruyan called him, telling him to change clothes so they could leave.
The place they went to eat was chosen by Xu Ruyan. It was a small restaurant close to the University of Finance and Economics. It didn’t seem very private, but the area was bustling with students, including many attractive young women. Plus, with Xu Qingqiu wearing a mask and a hat, she surprisingly didn’t attract much attention.
"Spill it. All this treating me to a meal and fussing around—what exactly are you up to?"
Inside the private room, Xu Qingqiu watched her sister busily cleaning her utensils and asked with an expression that said she saw right through her.
"HEHEHE, Sis, saying that really hurts. I just figured you must be exhausted from your busy schedule, so I wanted to do what I could to help."
"HMPH. As if I don’t know you. What do you want to buy? A laptop? I already bought you one, and a phone too. Is it clothes? Do you need more? How about I buy you another down jacket?"
"Oh, Sis! You sound like a capitalist now, always talking about money."
"Well, it’s not like you ever look for me when you don’t need money."
As the two sisters squabbled, Chu Tian shrank in his chair, afraid to make a sound.
It was simply too terrifying. He’d never seen them so aggressive before.
So this is what real sisters are like, huh? Neither of them ever backs down in a verbal spat. Are all siblings like this?
Xu Ruyan, whether out of fear or something else, kept avoiding the main issue, rambling on about unimportant things. Even when the food arrived, she kept quiet, making Chu Tian wonder if he had guessed wrong.
But then he tilted his head and caught her frequently glancing at him. When their eyes met, it was as if she’d been waiting for that moment; she immediately started frantically signaling with her eyes and eyebrows.
Wait, why is she signaling at me? What can I possibly do?
Utterly confused, Chu Tian thought about it for a long moment. He still felt this wasn’t a mess he should get involved in, so he decisively chose to ignore her. Pretending he hadn’t seen anything, he focused on eating quietly, fully committed to staying out of it.
Now Xu Ruyan was really in a bind. With a miserable expression, she lowered her head and furiously poked at the rice in her bowl, bitterly cursing Chu Tian in her heart.
Little did she know, Xu Qingqiu was observing all of this.
"UH-HUH. Spill it. You didn’t ask me here just for a meal, did you?"
Xu Qingqiu put down her chopsticks, signaling she was done eating. Seeing this, Xu Ruyan knew she couldn’t stall any longer and finally blurted everything out.
"Um, Sis... actually, there’s something I need to tell you."
"Go on, I’m listening."
"UM... well, I’m not really at the University of Finance and Economics. I’m at the film school..."
As she said this, she cautiously raised her eyes to peek at Xu Qingqiu’s reaction, only to be met with a complete lack of one.
"Continue. I’m listening."
Chu Tian, who had been secretly observing from the side, was truly having his eyes opened now.
Normally, Xu Qingqiu’s expressionless demeanor made her seem frosty, especially when facing outsiders. This had something to do with her looks. After all, Xu Qingqiu had the face of an icy goddess, which contributed to her frosty aura. But having interacted with her more, Chu Tian knew she was actually a very innocent and gentle person.
He just never expected Xu Qingqiu to have such a domineering side when dealing with her own sister. At a glance, she looked exactly like a domineering female boss. Especially when she crossed her arms, leaned back, and fixed her cool, aloof eyes on Xu Ruyan—she looked incredibly commanding.
HISS... This side of her is something new...
Secretly wiping the corner of his mouth, Chu Tian felt like his eyes had truly been opened.
Luckily, Xu Qingqiu didn’t know what he was thinking, or she would have surely turned bright red.
Xu Ruyan, already intimidated by her sister’s aura, lost even more of her confidence and confessed everything, holding nothing back.
"Done talking?"
"YEAH... done talking."
"Anything else?"
"No... nothing else..."
Their back-and-forth was like an interrogation, and the tension in the private room visibly thickened.
"Nothing else? Then what about that injury you had last time?"
"UM..."
Xu Ruyan froze. She subconsciously glanced at Chu Tian; seeing his head lowered, she seemed to snap to attention and said pitifully, "I... I took an acting job and... accidentally fell off a horse..."
Noticing her small movement, Xu Qingqiu’s usually calm expression flickered for an instant but quickly returned to normal.
"Well, well, Old Xusan. So your wings have hardened now, huh? Learned to deceive your elders and hide things, have you? Do Mom and Dad know?"
"They don’t know."
"Good, good. You’re really something else, Old Xusan!"
Although she spoke through gritted teeth, there wasn’t a hint of surprise on Xu Qingqiu’s face.
