Mystic Overlord: Reading Gives Strength
Chapter 980 974: Here Comes the Problem
Taylor naturally noticed Ronald's movement as he left the book repository.
And he was, of course, glad to see Ronald willing to step forward and help resolve the issue.
After all, he allowed the other to read the books here for a long time.
The fundamental purpose was to enable the library to deal with similar incidents.
So the two just exchanged greetings.
Taylor tacitly returned to his position, continuing his duty of overseeing the underground repository, while Ronald made his way up to the main entrance on the first floor of the library.
At this moment, the magic fluctuations on the street outside were still brewing, and Ronald could discern that there were quite a number of casters involved.
Based on his extensive combat experience.
This should be the stage where someone decides to carry out a threatening negotiation before taking any real action.
And at the entrance of the library.
Ronald saw the aged librarian standing guard behind the door.
His brows were furrowed tightly, and his body trembled, be it out of fear or anger. Yet, maintaining such a stance, this aged librarian still refused to open the door for those outside.
—Quite a dedicated display towards his job.
Ronald's impression of the aged librarian improved a bit more, silently praising him as he stepped forward.
It was just as Ronald was moving towards the front door that the casters outside, who were brewing their spells, shouted:
"Old Rennie, quickly open the library door!"
"We're all natives of the city of Karpen, why make things difficult for each other? We're looking for Mr. Ronald inside, so open the door already!"
"..."
"?"
As Ronald made his way out from the dark library, he stopped in his tracks the moment he heard the voice.
Even though both sides facing off didn't notice him, Ronald felt extremely awkward.
He had originally intended to step in and help the library with their trouble.
It turned out that trouble came seeking him, and the library ended up blocking that trouble for him!
Just as Ronald was feeling immensely embarrassed, the old man guarding the door shouted outside:
"Then you just have to wait!"
"You know the library's rules; no fighting is allowed here, so wait until people leave to resolve your issue!"
Hearing the librarian's response, the people outside grew a bit anxious:
"Old Rennie, we are from the Dawn Spell Society, there's no reason to delay in such times!"
"..."
—It's bad!
—Things have truly taken a turn for the worse!
The earlier parts were manageable, but upon hearing the remarks revealing their identity, Ronald's expression immediately fell. He never imagined that they hadn't just come to trouble him but had a very legitimate reason!
Perhaps his actions on the island lighthouse had been exposed.
Thus, people from the Dawn Spell Society tracked him down, intending to demand an explanation.
"Sigh..."
Faced with such a situation, Ronald sighed and then stepped forward, patting the librarian on the shoulder:
"Open the door, I'll go out and talk to them."
Ronald thought it through clearly.
He didn't consider himself someone who bullied the weak.
Since he had reaped benefits, it was only right to shoulder this responsibility. Since the Dawn Spell Society had come knocking, he should apologize sincerely and then discuss the follow-up issues.
The old man who was patted on the shoulder was also startled.
Turning around and hearing Ronald ask him to open the door, his expression was even more incredulous than before:
"Sir, are you sure you want to open the door?"
"You're from Griard, so you might not understand the capabilities of the Dawn Spell Society and the Twelve Witches Coven in the city of Karpen. Their actions are quite… highly efficient."
When trying to describe this, the aged librarian specifically avoided any derogatory terms
which showed the influence of these two mystic sides in the city of Karpen.
But in response to the old man's concern, Ronald still shook his head immediately, giving the old man a reassuring smile:
"It's alright, let me negotiate with them."
"There isn't too much loss on either side actually; as long as we talk properly, there shouldn't be any big problems."
Upon hearing Ronald's decision, the aged librarian became even more anxious:
"Sir, you don't understand, you really don't understand!"
"This really is a very challenging choice! You might as well just stay in the library; due to the library's special nature, these people will not invade."
In response to the elder's attitude, Ronald asked:
"But can I stay here forever, never going out?"
"..."
The old man couldn't say anything in reply.
He thought for a few seconds, and finally, under Ronald's decision, he placed his hand on the complicated door structure, preparing to open the library's front door.
"Hey, isn't that Layton?"
"..."
"Mela, what are you doing here?"
"We of the Dawn Spell Society have business in the library. If you have nothing to do, you had better leave quickly!"
Just before the door opened, a female voice came from outside, engaging in conversation with the members of the Dawn Spell Society.
The librarian paused in his action of opening the door.
Meanwhile, with his keen sense of hearing, Ronald could tell that a not-insignificant number of personnel had arrived; they were even directly confronting the Dawn Spell Society on the street!
There was no need for Ronald to inquire further.
Standing at the library entrance, the old man who was about to open the door retracted his hand and quickly explained to Ronald:
"Oh no, it's the witch Mela!"
"It's not just the Dawn Spell Society; even the Twelve Witches Coven is here!"
The old librarian gave a brief explanation, his tone and expression becoming extremely tense as he looked at Ronald:
"Sir, aren't they all here for you?"
Ronald now had mixed feelings and didn't quite know how to respond.
After thinking for a while, he barely began to speak:
"They probably are here for me, but the latter might perhaps… be a good thing?"
Almost as Ronald finished speaking.
The witch named Mela outside immediately confirmed his thought:
"Hey! What do you mean we should leave quickly?"
"I'm telling you, today I, the mother, refuse to leave!"
"Everyone knows the library's status in Karpen; it's a place that all casters need to protect together. You can't expect to break in and take anything from here today!"
"..."
The air fell silent for a few seconds, as if the people from the Dawn Spell Society didn't expect such a strong stance from the witch Mela, finally responding with some embarrassment:
"Mela, do not regret this!"
The witch gave a cold laugh and immediately retorted:
"Whether I regret or not, it's not for you to decide!"
