Naruto: I Am The System
Chapter 102 102: Persistence Is a Kind of Talent Too
On the streets of Konoha, Might Duy walked with steady steps, neither fast nor slow.
Each step he took was almost perfectly spaced, revealing just how refined his control over his own body had become.
But this was a world of shinobi.
And he… was just a Genin.
In the shinobi world, chakra determined nearly everything. With chakra, one could unleash all kinds of ninjutsu and genjutsu. It could enhance physical strength, speed, agility, and more.
Yet due to the limitations of his own body, Might Duy's chakra had a natural ceiling. No matter how much he trained, once he reached a certain level, he could no longer improve.
This wasn't uncommon in the world of Naruto.
But Duy, unwilling to accept his fate, didn't resign himself to a life of mediocrity after realizing he would never surpass the level of a Genin.
Instead, he chose the most difficult path of all—
He created his own taijutsu, a style so powerful it ignored the limitations of natural talent!
Such a delusional idea would sound like madness to most. But in his words, it was simply:
"Burn with the flames of youth!"
And so, Might Duy did just that.
Every day, he poured nearly all his time into training in taijutsu, studying medical techniques, and researching ways to unlock the hidden potential of the human body. He scraped by on the meager rewards from low-ranked C and D missions, using them to buy herbs and supplies. His conditions were grueling, to say the least.
And he persisted like this… for over a decade.
That, more than anything else, was what Nawaki admired most about him: his perseverance.
In another timeline, Duy remained a Genin for twenty straight years. Through sheer familiarity with the body and ceaseless taijutsu training, he created a forbidden-level taijutsu technique:
The Eight Gates Released Formation!
A technique that allowed one to break past the body's natural limits and release overwhelming chakra, empowering the body and unleashing explosive strength.
Sadly, Duy had no protagonist's plot armor. Not long after perfecting the Eight Gates, he died on a mission before he could ever make it known to the world.
He opened all Eight Gates, but only managed to take down four of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist.
Later on, it was his son—Might Guy—who would truly demonstrate the fearsome power of the Eight Gates.
He opened all Eight Gates and kicked the Six Paths Madara into a near-death state—almost ending the story of Naruto with a single blow…
Ahem. That might've been a bit exaggerated.
The truth was, Might Duy's aptitude was terrible. So terrible that he remained a Genin his entire life.
But Nawaki chose him to become a Reincarnator because of that very perseverance.
Perseverance is a form of talent. It's just one that often gets overlooked.
After finishing his training for the day, Might Duy returned home according to his strict daily routine to continue researching the Eight Gates.
Recently, he had seen the complete Eight Gates technique listed in the Lord God's exchange panel—and nearly popped his eyes out in shock.
Why was a technique he hadn't even finished developing already available in the system's exchange store?
With mixed feelings, Duy made up his mind:
He would redeem the Eight Gates from the Lord God himself.
At the very least, he wanted to compare it to what he had created on his own.
As he passed by an open plaza, an ear-splitting noise suddenly erupted, accompanied by waves of cheering and laughter.
Turning his head, he saw two men—one large, one small—standing atop a stone platform made with Earth Style in the center of the clearing.
The younger boy, white-haired and grinning, held a loudspeaker in his hand and was rapping excitedly:
"I'm the Kumo ninja genius, Killer Bee in the house—oh yeah~
This here is my big bro A,
Together we're the legendary AB duo—oh yeah~!"
Might Duy's eyelid twitched.
Wait a second… why did that kid look so familiar?
And the man beside him, shirtless with a muscular, bronze-toned body and a face carved with stern lines—his presence made the women in the crowd scream.
"…!"
Was that… A?
The same battle junkie who had challenged Duy to a rematch?
Something was definitely off here.
Instinctively, Might Duy took a few steps back the way he came.
Then turned and walked forward again, to double-check.
Killer Bee was still on the stage, joyfully rapping and soaking in the crowd's enthusiasm.
Might Duy stood there, dumbfounded… and suddenly, tears welled up in his eyes.
"This is the feeling of youth! I can't believe A and Killer Bee have awakened such a passionate way to express themselves—how enviable! My blood is boiling with excitement!"
Not far away, Nawaki—who had arrived with Tsunade—twitched at Duy's words.
As expected, Might Duy's thought process is… unlike normal people.
After the AB duo finished their wild and bizarre performance, Killer Bee changed the subject and thanked the Konoha villagers for their enthusiasm.
Then, they brought out a pile of odd gifts and randomly selected more than twenty people from the audience to receive one each.
Might Duy just happened to be among the chosen.
After distributing the gifts, A and Killer Bee finally ended their concert.
From that day forward, the name "AB Duo Who Loves to Sing" became inescapably tied to Konoha.
Even after they left, Tsunade remained in the square, deep in thought.
If A and Killer Bee had another objective, then this ridiculous concert was likely a cover—and the gifts they handed out had to be rigged somehow.
But how?
"Don't tell me you were actually touched by their singing, sis?" Nawaki teased.
"Wanna die?" Tsunade flicked his forehead hard, her eyes flashing with suspicion.
She recalled that among the gifts given by the AB duo, there had been a strange, giant snail.
To ordinary people, it might just seem oddly large.
But having experienced the One Piece world, Tsunade instantly recognized it as one of the pet options in the system's exchange list:
A Transponder Snail.
Why did A and Killer Bee possess a Transponder Snail?
Why did they suddenly appear in Konoha?
Why were they doing such inexplicably bizarre things?
None of it made sense—unless you viewed it from a Reincarnator's perspective.
Then suddenly… it all clicked.
A and Killer Bee are Reincarnators—and they've become teammates with a Konoha ninja.
They came to Konoha to find that ninja.
Their weird antics? Probably just part of a random Lord God mission.
Tsunade had recently seen plenty of absurd mission prompts, but none of the rewards tempted her, so she hadn't accepted any.
Now that everything made sense, she immediately sprang into action.
"Nawaki, you go home first. I've got something to take care of."
Sensing the calculations in her heart, Nawaki smiled and nodded.
Way to go, sis.
Unfortunately for A and Killer Bee, they hadn't considered one critical detail:
Might Duy wasn't the only Reincarnator in Konoha.
Their sloppy gift-giving—handing out weird items without any concealment—had completely exposed them.
And Might Duy's identity as a Reincarnator was now compromised as well.
Originally, someone like Duy—a minor Genin—would never have attracted Tsunade's attention.
But now… he was very much on her radar.
