Negative Distance: My Ex Becomes My Boss!
Chapter 149: Why Are You Always the Happy One?
CHAPTER 149: CHAPTER 149: WHY ARE YOU ALWAYS THE HAPPY ONE?
"It’s your own fault for being useless. Someone’s been stalking your boyfriend, and you didn’t even know."
Stella Hollis sneered coldly.
Poppy Hale truly didn’t know.
But what difference does it make?
She looked down at the phone charm hanging from her phone case, which Mia Quinn had returned to her.
Probably found while stalking Declan Hawthorne.
Back then, whether it was stalking or harassment, there were simply too many girls entangled with Declan Hawthorne.
It was Declan Hawthorne’s own attitude that was the most important.
Stella’s eyes were somewhat confused.
"I noticed Mia Quinn because she reminds me of myself—not expected to be born, and even when she got into college, her family exploited her. Why should a person like that secretly love Declan Hawthorne?"
It seemed like she was talking about Mia Quinn, but also about herself.
Stella was like a rag thrown into the sewers, soaking there for who knows how long, exuding a sour stench.
"Poppy Hale, someone like you will never understand."
"How much effort I need to climb out of the mire."
Stella’s pale face bore only an empty gaze.
She stared at the light above, forcing her eyes open wide, letting the light glare into her pupils, causing an uncomfortable pain.
Seeing Poppy remain silent, Stella licked her lips.
"At first, the person I wanted to seduce was actually your dad."
Poppy’s pupils dilated suddenly.
She immediately sat up from the chair.
Hearing the noise, Stella smiled contentedly.
"It’s a pity your dad wasn’t interested in me and only regarded me as your classmate."
Poppy remembered.
At that time, it was Sean Lynch and Connor Lynch who handled the situation together.
Stella protested angrily, "I thought your dad would scold me, blame me. If my parents knew about this, they’d only beat me to death."
That afternoon, Connor and Sean investigated the whole matter thoroughly.
Stella was just a student back then, without many resources, and investigating her IP didn’t require much skill.
After Connor found out, he simply looked at Stella and said one sentence.
"Poppy said getting into Arvum University wasn’t easy for you. You’re a capable kid. The path ahead needs to be walked well; don’t go astray again."
These words were more unsettling to Stella than blame and insults.
Why is there someone as lucky as Poppy Hale in the world?
Why could she easily obtain all the good things?
Stella recklessly seduced Sean, crying about how difficult her childhood was.
Sean felt sympathy for her.
Catching him off guard, Stella had a relationship with Sean, forcing him to divorce Chloe Archer.
Sean didn’t understand how important money was to her.
Without money, she couldn’t survive.
Stella gritted her teeth, clenching them so hard they creaked.
"I’ve walked a long road and made many efforts just to live a little better. What did I do wrong?"
"Do you know why I wanted to have Eugene Lynch’s child? Because I wanted to see if his child would turn out to be like you."
Poppy felt a wave of revulsion rise in her heart.
All these years, Stella had always viewed her as an imaginary enemy.
Her mind wasn’t clear anymore.
Poppy’s stomach churned with nausea.
Did Stella see everything she did as driven by hatred?
She sighed lightly, nodding to the police before turning to leave the hospital room.
Hearing her departure, Stella flipped over in bed, staring intently at Poppy’s retreating figure!
How could she say so many things and just leave?
"Poppy Hale, come back!"
"If I had seduced your dad, I’d be your stepmother now, and the child in my belly would be your brother! How can you treat me like this?"
Rants of madness.
The beast-like howling wailed behind Poppy.
She closed the hospital room door, suppressing the discomfort in her gut, a cold sweat clinging all over her body.
A throbbing pain pulsed in her temples.
The police approached to check on Poppy, "Ms. Hale, are you alright?"
Poppy shook her head gently, subconsciously wanting to speak, but only a breathy sound came out.
She simply waved her hand, pointing to the elevator, indicating she would leave first.
The police, who were aware of the situation earlier, didn’t ask further questions and allowed Poppy to leave.
Once inside the elevator, Poppy pressed the button for the upper floor.
The elevator ascended.
In Declan Hawthorne’s hospital room.
Morgan Sloan stood aside, diligently reporting the company’s affairs over the past few days.
The news of Declan Hawthorne’s injury was kept under wraps.
If word got out, the media would likely camp outside every day watching.
Hugo Hawthorne had been clocking in at work for Declan for a few days now, constantly asking Morgan Sloan.
"When can Declan come back?"
If he could manage the company, would the old man brighten up at the mere sight of Declan?
Morgan Sloan stifled a laugh.
He brought the documents Hugo processed to the hospital.
Although Hugo didn’t possess the prowess for bold, sweeping actions, he could still maintain the Hawthorne Group’s operations for a time.
Poppy Hale pushed open the door and, seeing Morgan Sloan, paused slightly.
She nodded to him and sat down on the nearby sofa.
Her mind was filled with the things Stella had just said.
She didn’t even notice when Morgan Sloan left.
Declan called out several times.
"Poppy."
Only then did Poppy come to her senses.
She walked over to his side.
Declan calmly said, "I want to use the bathroom."
Poppy was about to go find a nurse, but Declan held her wrist.
His gaze burned intensely at her.
Poppy inexplicably felt her face heat up.
Lately, she couldn’t speak, and Declan needed rest. Even if they were together, they would do their own things.
Declan had only recently removed those apparatuses.
He held Poppy’s wrist, his fingers gently massaging her delicate bones.
Poppy shot him a glare, and Declan raised an eyebrow, "The doctor told me to exercise my fingers."
He wouldn’t let her call the nurse, yet his hand had already reached out.
Poppy had no choice but to help him to the bathroom.
Declan leaned most of his weight on her, yet left just enough space for her not to actually fall.
Poppy was speechless to the extreme.
This man.
Was doing it on purpose!
When Morgan Sloan was here, why didn’t he say he needed to go to the bathroom?
Holding her breath, Poppy brought him into the bathroom. Just as she was about to turn away, Declan grabbed her hand again.
"I have no strength."
Poppy’s eyes widened.
Her face clearly stated a few big words.
Are you sick?
This is what you call having no strength?
Where did the strength go when you prevented her from calling someone earlier?
Did his strength disappear at will?
In utter frustration, Poppy stepped on Declan’s foot.
Then she turned and left the bathroom.
As she left, her cheeks puffed up like an angry hamster.
Her ears were flushed red.
The door closed with a bang.
Behind her came Declan’s joyful laugh.
"Such thin skin."
