New World with Four Husbands
Chapter 307: Dinner
CHAPTER 307: DINNER
After a few minutes, Sinclair and Alithe left their home, their footsteps echoing as they walked away from the house.
They walked back to the carriage, the sound of their footsteps growing fainter and fainter as they went further away and into the carriage.
The carriage was quick to move, running along the street.
As the carriage’s noises faded away in the background, Coco slowly lifted herself up from her position on the floor, her body feeling slightly sore from the fall.
Konoha, the white adorable cat, had already released her from her hold.
The black haired woman stood up, her limbs a bit shaky and her legs a bit numb, as she looked at the feline, who was now back in her normal, small size.
Coco let out a small sigh, rubbing her sore shoulders.
Coco stood up and walked into the house, her steps a bit unsteady from the earlier fall.
She slowly made her way to the kitchen, the dim lighting of the lamps illuminating her path— the house was quiet, the only sound being the faint ticking of a clock and the soft pitter-patter of the cat’s footsteps behind her.
Coco let out a deep sigh and settled herself on a chair once she’s inside the kitchen, feeling extremely exhausted.
The exhaustion she feels from her usual routine hunting and harvesting fruits seems to be much easier than shopping and trying on several clothes for the entirety of the afternoon.
I miss hunting.. Coco thought and was about to close her eyes when she heard a familiar shrill voice calling out her name, making her open her eyes and look around, the voice so familiar her eyes quickly darted towards the source.
"Coco’s back?! Coco! Cocoooo!" She heard the high-pitched voice of a familiar fairy, Lala, somewhere in the house.
She looked around, just in time to see the tiny creature flitted closer to her, her voice shrill and cheerful, as the fairy called out, her words filled with excitement.
"Coco!" Lala squealed, her face brightening up when she saw Coco, only for her eyes to glisten with tears.
"I’m so tired." Coco mumbled, her expression softening into a blank one when she saw Lala was about to cry big fat tears, "Please, don’t.."
"Cocooo!" The garden fairy’s voice rang loudly in the air before Coco saw her, then with a blink, she felt Lala tackle her face with reckless abandon, her hands holding the human’s check.
"I missed you so much! You were already gone when I woke up and didn’t return until it was dark! I was worried that you got lost or something!" The garden fairy cried out, hugging Coco’s face like there was no tomorrow.
Coco let out a weary sigh and patted Lala gently on the back with her finger, her touch soft and gentle.
"Sorry, sorry... I had to leave early because I went to the hunter guild." Coco explained, her voice weary, but patient, "Alithe talked to the guild master so I had no choice, but to go."
The fairy sniffed and nodded against her cheek, her arms still wrapped around her face in a tight hug.
Coco was about to speak when the second husband’s voice resonated through the room, catching Coco’s attention and Lala’s.
"Lala! Where are you?!"
The sound of his voice echoed, the tone worried and loud.
Coco stifled a sigh, her words cut off by the unexpected interruption, as she looked at Lala, who seemed to be hesitating, her tiny body still clinging to Coco.
Lala sniffled and explained, her voice still hiccupping from her earlier tears. "He helped me eat something today...I was so sad that I couldn’t eat anything, but he stayed with me."
Her words came out in a soft, shaky voice, and Coco nodded softly, her expression softening at the thought.
"Lala— oh." Heiren walked through the kitchen door, his brown eyes widening in surprise as he lay his gaze on Coco, a mixture of relief and concern washed over his face as he realized that she was back.
He immediately ran to the refrigerator, his movements urgent, and threw the fridge door open before she started rummaging through the contents.
Heiren set to work on preparing Coco’s dinner, reheating the food he had cooked earlier.
He moved efficiently, moving around the kitchen with ease.
After finishing preparing her meal, he set a cup of tea before her, gently coaxing her to drink it.
Lala continued to cry, clinging to Coco’s face tightly, their sounds filled the kitchen, but all the husband could hear was a bell ringing loudly.
Coco hummed softly, the small pad of her finger rubbing Lala’s back in a soothing motion, offering her comfort.
Her other hand raised the teacup to her lips, the comforting scent of the tea tickling her nose, the steam rising gently, and making her let out a sigh of relief.
The warmth of the cup radiated through her fingers, the ceramic material smooth and cool against her skin as she took a sip.
Heiren finished preparing the food and set it on the table, the dishes clattering softly against the surface, the food was warm, a faint steam rising from it, the scents of spices and herbs filling the air.
He pulled up a seat and sat down across Coco, his gaze fixed on her expectantly.
Coco looked up at the meal in front of her, savoring the smell and appreciating the effort her the mediator had put into preparing her meal at this time of night.
As usual, Coco wanted to express her gratitude, but her words were cut off by the fairy still clinging to her face.
Heiren noticed her predicament and stepped in, gently grabbing Lala with his hands as he held the fairy carefully, his touch delicate while he coaxed her off Coco’s face.
"Come on, fairy." Heiren said, his voice gruff with annoyance, "Coco needs to eat."
Reluctantly, the garden fairy had let go of Coco’s face, sniffling loudly.
