CHAPTER 308: LETTER

The next morning rolled into the city, the hustle and bustle of early morning activity starting to fill the streets.

The sounds of people starting their day and the noises of shops opening echoed through the air, creating a familiar rhythm.

The warm sunlight started to stream in through the windows, bathing the surroundings in a soft glow.

Inside the house, on the second floor, Coco rolled over in the bed and stirred awake, her body slowly coming to life after a night of rest.

Her eyes fluttered open, adjusting to the soft light filtering through the curtains, as a yawn escaped her lips, her limbs stretching out with her mind gradually coming to consciousness.

The faint sound of the city outside reached her ears, the early morning noises of the city slowly becoming more clear as she fully woke up.

Coco stretched lazily, her body feeling the familiar movement of her limbs as she awakened.

Suddenly, she felt something heavy and vibrating on top of her, its weight adding an unusual pressure to her chest, the vibration was steady, sending gentle tremors through her body.

Coco locked eyes with Konoha, the white cat now lying on top of her chest, its steady purring sound now making sense to her.

The cat regarded her with its usual aloof expression, blinking slowly as if it had been expecting her to wake up.

Coco blinked before chuckling softly, her hand instinctively reaching up to stroke the cat’s soft fur, making Konoha purred louder as Coco’s hand came in contact with her fur, her eyes closing in contentment.

The deep, rumbling sound filled the room, the cat’s body visibly relaxing under Coco’s touch, her fingers ran through the white fur, feeling the softness and smoothness of each hair.

Coco lay comfortably on the bed, basking in the peacefulness of the moment, the only sound resonating in the room was the soft, steady purr of Konoha, her body still purring on top of Coco’s chest.

All of a sudden, a soft knock interrupted the quiet, the gentle sound echoing through the room and pulling her attention.

Coco tilted her head towards the door, her eyebrows furrowing slightly in curiosity as she stared at the wooden door.

Coco was about to sit up, but Konoha curled up in Coco’s chest, her body now forming a soft, fluffy ball.

The cat’s movement made Coco freeze and obviously, she didn’t want to disturb the cat’s comfort so Coco stayed still, her body remaining motionless.

She held her breath, trying to remain as relaxed as possible, not wanting to make a sound that would cause the cat to move— and it was an unspoken rule that if a cat laid on someone, that someone is not allowed to move.

Coco turned her attention to the door and called out, her voice slightly hoarse from sleep.

"I don’t know if the door is locked or not, but come in!"Her words echoed through the room, the sound bouncing off the walls and lingering in the air.

There was a brief moment of silence before the doorknob started turning, the sound of the lock clicking open, and Coco blinked as Zaque peeked his head inside the room, a surprised expression on his face.

He looked at Coco, still lying in bed, her body motionless to accommodate the cat curled on her chest.

Zaque’s gaze darted between Coco and the cat, a hint of amusement in his eyes, then he pushed the door open and stepped inside, his expression still amused as he spoke.

"Sorry to disturb your sleep, but Sinclair sent a letter just now." Zaque hummed, holding up a rolled-up parchment in his hand.

He walked over to Coco’s bedside and held out the letter to her, his movements slow and deliberate.

Coco tilted her head in the bed, unable to move much with the cat still on her chest, and accepted the letter, her voice soft and slightly guilty.

"Thanks.. Sorry for not opening the door." She apologized, her gaze flickering towards the cat curled on her chest as the cat remained blissfully sleeping, oblivious to the conversation going on around her.

Zaque shook his head, his smile growing wider. "It’s fine."

Zaque’s gaze shifted to Konoha, his expression softening as he looked at the cat curled up on Coco’s chest, remembering the way the cat mewled loudly as she looked for her master.

Coco opened the letter carefully, the envelope making a soft rustling sound as it was opened, and the paper crackled softly under her touch— the sound filled the room, the silence otherwise broken only by the faint chirping of morning birds and the soft purring of the cat on her chest.

Zaque stood awkwardly beside the bed, his gaze darting back and forth between Coco and the letter in her hand.

He was unsure of what to do, not wanting to disturb her while she read the letter but also feeling uncomfortable just standing there.

He fidgeted slightly, shifting his weight from one foot to the other, his expression a mix of curiosity and awkwardness.

As Coco read the letter, her expression changed from blankness to confusion, then surprise, and finally to a slight hint of a pout.

Her eyebrows furrowed, her eyes scanning the words on the letter with increasing curiosity, with her lips curling into a small, subtle pout, as if she was both annoyed and somewhat amused by what she was reading.

Coco looked away from the letter and up at Zaque, her expression turning serious.

"They are coming over." She said, her words a statement rather than a question, her tone was firm, her voice betraying a hint of resignation and a hint of sadness.

Zaque nodded his head reluctantly.

"Who’s coming over?" He asked, his voice tinged with curiosity and a hint of caution.

"Alithe and Sinclair." Coco mumbled, dropping the paper down to her bed and sighed deeply, "Apparently, they are planning to tutor me for next week."

"Then you must get up and start preparing."
