New World with Four Husbands
Chapter 311: Questions and questions
CHAPTER 311: QUESTIONS AND QUESTIONS
Coco entered the living room, her footsteps silent on the carpet as she approached the couch, immediately seeing Sinclair and Alithe sitting there, their attention shifting to her as she entered.
They sat side by side on the couch, their gazes turning towards her while she approached them.
Sinclair stood up, a warm smile on his face, as he bowed his head slightly, his expression radiating politeness.
"Good morning, master." said, his tone respectful and obedient, his stance was upright, his back straight and his gaze focused on Coco.
Coco returned the greeting, her smile soft and genuine.
"Good morning, Sin." She replied, her tone warm, soft, and friendly, her gaze met his, her eyes twinkling with unspoken affection.
Then, Coco gestured to the couch, her expression calm and slightly teasing.
"Sit back down. You came here to tutor me, right?" She asked, her tone matter-of-fact, as she leaned against the arm of the couch, her gaze fixed on him, offering the seat, inviting him to start with their lesson rather than keeping the formal greetings.
Sinclair sat back down, nodding his head in agreement.
"Fortunately." He said, a soft smile tugging at the corner of his mouth, "But my husband will be leaving shortly now that you’re here."
He echoed, his gaze flickering towards the floor for a moment and despite the mention of his husband, his demeanor remained polite and composed, his focus turning fully to Coco.
Alithe leaned down and placed a gentle kiss on Sinclair’s head, the gesture a small but affectionate demonstration of his love.
Then, he stood up and turned to Coco, his expression soft.
"I’ll be back before lunch." He said, his tone certain and slightly reassuring.
He gave her a slightly warm smile before heading for the hallway, his footsteps fading away as he exited the room.
Without even a few seconds later, Coco and Sinclair already heard the front door open and close, the sound echoing through the hall and into the living room.
The noise broke the brief silence that had settled in, momentarily interrupting the quiet atmosphere.
Coco took a deep breath, her gaze flickering towards the direction of the noise before returning to Sinclair, her mind momentarily distracted, but the hybrids caught her gaze and scooted to the edge of the sofa.
Sinclair looked back at Coco, his eyes calmly studying her face before he patted the seat beside him, his expression open and inviting.
"Come sit with me." He said, his voice soft and gentle.
"Thanks." Coco mumbled and sat down next to him on the couch, the soft cushion sinking slightly under her weight.
She positioned herself comfortably, her eyes fixed on him as she shifted to face him more directly, and Sinclair looked at Coco, his gaze fixed and intense.
"What we are about to do is not exactly tutoring." The hybrid began, his voice low and firm, "But you will have to ask me questions— a lot of questions."
His words were careful, his expression serious and focused, as if he was prepared to answer whatever she asked.
Coco blinked, her expression contemplative, and nodded her head in understanding, reluctant, but still thinking about it so she hummed.
"Got it." She agreed with Sinclair as she shifted slightly in her seat, her expression turning thoughtful. "I don’t know what to ask though..."
There was a pause as she attempted to gather her thoughts, her mind running through the various questions that were swirling through her head, trying her best to choose the most reasonable and decent ones.
The uncertainty was clear on her face, her eyes darting from the floor and to his face.
Sinclair noticed her internal struggle so he decided to help her out and hummed softly, a gentle sound that was reassuring and soothing.
"In that case." The hybrid quietly started, his tone casual yet serious, "Let me tell you about what familiars can do."
He settled more comfortably into the couch, his eyes fixed on Coco as if waiting for a sign to continue, and sure enough, Coco brightened up, suddenly excited as she remembered what to use as the topic at hand.
"Oh yeah!" She exclaimed, her tone eager and enthusiastic. "I have completely forgotten about you guys! Can you tell me? Tell me, tell me, tell me!"
Coco leaned in slightly, her body language showing her eagerness to learn more about familiars and what they could do, her eyes wide, her full attention fixed on Sinclair, as she waited for him to begin the explanation.
Sinclair chuckled, his gaze fixed on Coco’s eager face for a moment, then he opened his mouth and spoke.
"Hybrids are not entirely familiar." He began to explain, his tone sounding patient and gentle, "They only become one if they find the person they want to have as a master."
He paused for a moment, allowing Coco to digest the information and letting the gravity of his words sink in.
Coco blinked, her expression registering a slight look of surprise, and voiced her query, her tone filled with curiosity and disbelief. "..But you chose me as your master? With all kinds of humans in this world?"
Coco’s eyes were fixed on his face, her head slightly tilted as she waited for his answer, and Sinclair merely nodded his head earnestly.
"Because you are the person who saved me." He affirmed, his tone honest and heartfelt. "Sure, my husband was there.."
He looked away and continued. ".. But again, the monsters around the village are dangerous so he wouldn’t be able to save me by himself, and I already accepted that."
His expression became blank, eyes returning to Coco, silently pleading for her to understand the depth of his answer.
"However, fate did have a plan for me, for him— for us." Sinclair said softly, his voice heavy with an understanding of the greater events that had brought them all together.
He was confident in his words, having no doubt that they were meant to be introduced with each other that night.
