CHAPTER 312: QUESTIONS AND QUESTIONS [2]

"So.. Does that mean you chose me because of fate?" Coco asked.

Sinclair chuckled softly, a quiet laugh that escaped his lips when Coco asked if he chose her as his master due to fate.

"No, not really," he said, his tone light and dismissive. His expression was amused, as if the very question sounded silly to him.

Sinclair paused for a moment, before adding, "I only chose you because I could feel your soul was otherworldly. Your soul was shining.. Literally."

His tone has a matter-of-fact, as if stating the most obvious fact, and he leaned back against the couch, his gaze still fixed on Coco, the words that escaped his lips tinged with a hint of teasing.

However, the underlying tone of his words carried a seriousness, indicating that he was not entirely kidding.

Coco let out a small huff of disbelief, her face scrunching up into a puzzled expression as she echoed a quiet, "Seriously?"

Coco’s tone was filled with skepticism while she slowly leaned back slightly, copying his movement as her eyes scrutinized his face for any signs of mockery or deceit— her brain short circuiting.

Sinclair scoffed and rolled his eyes in playful exasperation, his tone dry, but amused.

"Obviously... Not." The hybrid responded, his voice tinged with a touch of sarcasm. "I already told you that I made you my master because you saved me, didn’t I?"

Coco huffed under her breath, her expression now tinged with irritation and annoyance, before she asked the question, however..

"Whatever." Coco grumbled, her tone a mix of resignation and curiosity as she shifted in her seat, her gaze flickering between faux annoyance and curiosity, "Well.. Are you not going to tell me why hybrids are not familiar or something?"

As much as she loved the banter between her and Sinclair, she couldn’t help, but grow impatient.

Sinclair let out a soft sigh, glancing sideways before continuing, his expression growing more serious, as he answered his master.

"Yes." He confirmed, voice dripping with playfulness, but still respectful, "Hybrids are not familiar, but once we become attached to a master, we gain the ability to change our appearance."

He paused for a good second and gaze flickering over Coco, waiting for a reaction to come out of her mouth.

Coco raised an eyebrow, curiosity piqued.

XChange your appearance?" she repeated, her words coming out as a questioning statement. "What do you mean by that?"

She remained her gaze fixed on Sinclair, waiting for him to clarify the meaning behind his words, and thankfully, Sinclair decided that it would be mean to leave Coco hanging so he nodded his head in affirmation.

"Hybrids cannot change into their animal forms, but they have their own special abilities." The hybrid explained.

He froze, turning his head to look at Coco’s face before continuing, "However, since I have become familiar with someone as strong as you, I can change into my animal form."

Despite the seriousness of his face, his words held a touch of admiration and gratitude, recognizing and acknowledging her strength and importance to him.

So they can’t shapeshift to their animal form if they don’t have a master..? Coco pondered the words, a look of understanding and realization slowly dawning on her face.

That must have been a torture, right? Coco added to her previous train of thoughts, feeling sympathetic towards Sinclair.

She opened her mouth to speak, wanting to express she was glad that she accepted the rescue mission from the village chief and the system.

However, before she could express her thoughts, the sound of someone clearing their throat from the doorway of the living room interrupted her, making the words die down in her throat.

She twisted slightly in her seat to look towards the sound, her attention turning to whoever was in the entryway.

Coco turned her head and her eyes snapping towards the doorway, her gaze landing on Zaque’s figure standing there, arms crossed and all.

She immediately noticed his furrowed eyebrows, his expression a little tense as he looked at both her and Sinclair, a look of disapproval and envy crossing his handsome features.

Coco lifted an eyebrow in curiosity, wondering what might have caused his sudden appearance.

Sinclair, on the other hand, stood up and bowed respectfully towards the first husband, his body moving with fluid grace. "Hello, Zaque. I appreciate you assisting us— and thank you again for letting me in."

Sinclair’s voice was smooth and gracious, his words carefully chosen and polite.

His expression was neutral, but there was a subtle hint of gratitude and respect in his eyes as he looked towards Zaque.

"Hm." Zaque merely let out a quiet hum as he nodded his head in acknowledgement, his gaze lingering on Coco for a moment longer before he turned and exited the room.

His steps were even and controlled, his movements as quiet as a cat padding down the hall.

Coco and Sinclair both blinked in surprise as they watched Zaque leave the room, his red locks swaying down on his back.

The two of them shared a brief moment of mutual confusion before their gazes shifted back to one another, silently acknowledging the brief interruption of their little tutoring session.

"Well.. That’s that." Coco spoke up and broke the silence.

"That was.. Something." Sinclair mumbled, indirectly agreeing with Coco’s statement.

Coco shrugged, her smile softening as she returned her attention to the important topic at hand, and tapped her foot on the carpet.

"Tell me what I need to learn about monsters." She requested, her voice filled with faux desperation, as she leaned forward slightly, her gaze focused on him, ready to absorb the knowledge he was about to provide.

"Relax." Sinclair hummed, "You will pass."

Coco was quick to disagree and shook her head. "Let’s not be too hasty, okay?"

Coco stared at Sinclair and frowned. "Just because I hunt everyday doesn’t mean that I’ll pass.. I don’t know how strong the monsters here are."

"You will pass." Sinclair ignored her, confident that she would.
