CHAPTER 440: QUESTIONS AFTER WORK

Quizen insisted on working on the bar by the city square because he wanted to be away from the house— to become independent and show Coco that he can handle himself.

He wanted to assure Coco that she doesn’t have to worry about him or any of the husbands.

However, fate has other plans for him.

The mediator knew that Coco wasn’t the type to be cruel towards anyone, but there were some days that she would act strange and ignore everyone, blatantly avoiding people like they were affected by some plague.

Of course, he’s talking about how she acted towards them a couple of days ago.

There were some days that she would act super friendly and would flash them a smile like she’s happy to see them, then before they knew it, she would ignore them for a couple of days like they did something wrong.

He knows that whenever she acts like that, there’s always one of them that made her do that.

It’s no secret that she’s good with aversion after all.

Quizen sighed deeply as he pushed his guitar, the one that Coco bought for him, inside of its case and zipped the zipper all the way from the bottom to the top.

Once he’s done packing his beloved instrument, he walked out of the staff room.

"Already on your way out, dear?" Came a melodic voice on his right, causing Quizen to stop on his track and then his attention to the person who asked him.

"Madam Nayin." Quizen said the person’s name with a polite smile. "Yes, I am.. Pei Wei was quite excited so I just finished my last jam before I let him take over the stage for tonight."

Quizen isn’t the only musician of the bar, but he’s the only one who can play a guitar so he was scouted.

Madam Nayin was the one who scouted him after she heard him sing his song in the city square one day and decided that he would be a good addition among her staff— which she was right with.

Quizen adapted to the environment quickly and knew the how ropes work around him.

It was as if he had work for a bar before.

She didn’t questioned Quizen if he had work experience when she first saw him because she was afraid that a rival bar would try to whisk him away before she could.

Now that Quizen had been working in her bar for a good number of days, isn’t it the best time to ask?

So, as Quizen and her walk through the back of the bar, where all the staffs enter and exit once they’re done with their shift, she took the chance to slip the question without sounding like she’s desperate for information.

"Have you worked somewhere before I asked you to work here, dear?" Madam Nahin asked, smiling softly.

Quizen’s grip on the strap of his guitar case tightened a little, not expecting such a question from his employer— well, not that he mind, but it was just kind of sudden.

Madam Nayin doesn’t seem to be the type of employer that is interested with one’s work experience after all.

"Yes, madam." Quizen answered truthfully with a small snile. "I came from Yogusho Village and I was a singer from their inn, Red Horse Inn."

Madam Nayin raised an eyebrow, the name of his previous workplace seemed to ring a bell on the back of her mind and she thought hard about where she had heard the name before, but it didn’t cross her mind.

As they reach the door, Madam Nayin gave it up and asked another question instead.

"I heard that you’re married.. Is it true, dear?" She inquired before she realized that it was quite personal for her to ask. "Oh, no, please don’t what I just said! It was rude of me—"

"It’s okay, madam." Quizen chuckled.

"It’s a personal question, dearie! You shouldn’t let other people ask these kind of questions!" Madam Nayin chastised the mediator, her eyebrows furrowing in worry.

Quizen nodded his head and laughed quietly. "I know, madam.. But to answer your question, I am married.. Happily married infact.. And I love my wife so much that it would hurt me if she ever try to go somewhere without me."

Madam Nayin was in the middle of reaching towards the door handle when Quizen finished speaking and there was this certain tone in his voice that made her stop.

She turned to look at him, eyes wide. "Try to go somewhere? Without you? Why would it hurt you?"

"She’s trying to find a way to get away from me.. From us, her husbands, madam— actually, now that we’re on the topic, do you know where we can go to change our names?" He immediately changed the topic, flashing the old woman a charming smile.

"Pardon?" Madam Nayin blinked, having a whiplash at how fast Quizen tried to change the subject.

"My wife haven’t said it, but we could tell that she wants to change her last name.. So we’ve been looking for ways that she could do without breaking any law." The mediator hummed out.

Madam Nayin looked at the smile on Quizen’s face and felt a cold chill run down her spine.

Not only there was a certain tone in his voice, but there was also a particular look in his eyes that made him look frightening— or is her eyes playing tricks on the good old her?

"Dearie.. I— haha, I don’t know." Madam Nayin stammered out, laughing nervously. "But if you can, you may go to the main city’s inner walls to get your names changed in the administrative office.."

She felt like she had asked a dangerous question and now, she couldn’t wait to let the mediator out of the building.

Quizen blinked and stared at the old woman before he nodded his head. "I see, thank you so much for answering my question, madam."

"No problem!" She said. "Now, off you go!"
