New World with Four Husbands
Chapter 491: Unexpected summon and shocking news
CHAPTER 491: UNEXPECTED SUMMON AND SHOCKING NEWS
Coco hoisted the lifeless body of the tough crocodile over her shoulder, the weight of the creature causing her to huff softly with exertion.
The sky above was a mix of beautiful colors, the setting sun casting a brilliant display of orange and pink hues that danced across the clouds.
The air was cool and crisp, a gentle breeze gently rustling through the trees, making the atmosphere between Coco and her big helper calm, but still, it was charged with something tense— more on Coco’s side.
Neo followed closely behind her, a glimpse of awe in his eyes as he watched her carry the massive beast with ease.
Despite the fact that he had witnessed displays of Coco’s strength countless times before, Neo still found himself completely amazed by the sight.
He watched in awe as Coco effortlessly hauled the hefty monsters over her shoulder repeatedly throughout the day, the sheer power she possessed never failing to leave him in a state of wonder.
He couldn’t help, but shake his head in admiration, a look of both amazement and disbelief etched across his face.
Coco and Neo had already made their way back towards the guild, their steps faltering a couple of times due to the intensity of their missions today.
They had finally completed their last mission of the day, the exhaustion of the long day slowly beginning to catch up to them all because Coco finished the two missions that Neo picked earlier immediately so she had no choice, but to get another, and another, and another..
Until the sky had grown much darker since they left.
The stars are now visible in the night sky as the cool night breeze wrapped around them— Coco remained in the lead, her heavy load slowing her down slightly while Neo walked a couple of steps behind her, occasionally stealing glances at her back.
Coco was absorbed in her thoughts about the quest she had received and remained oblivious to Neo’s glances.
The quest had provided no clues about the disguised monster’s true form, leaving her clueless on where she should start looking.
She knew only that it was disguised and it wanted to cause trouble. Two things that made Coco sigh.
Coco and Neo entered the guild, their appearances instantly catching the attention of the other hunters in the lobby, the sight of them caused most of the hunters to roll their eyes, having grown accustomed to Coco’s habit of showing off her strength whenever she returned from finishing a mission.
As usual, Coco simply ignored them and made her way to the front desk, a smile gracing her lips when she glanced at the same receptionist from earlier.
Instead of pausing to greet him, however, she simply flashed him a friendly smile and proceeded directly towards the drop-off area for the dead monster, making the receptionist stare as she walked away, shaking his head slightly at her usual lack of formality.
Coco dropped the crocodile on the drop off area which consists of a simple magic circle that teleports the dead monster somewhere.
Coco sighed and let her gaze linger on the lifeless form of the crocodile for a moment before being interrupted by a soft cough, causing her to look up to find the guild master standing nearby, his expression tense.
Coco blinked and shifted on her spot, her eyebrows furrowing as she straightened herself, giving him her full attention and waited for him to speak.
However, the Guild Master’s gaze briefly flickered towards Neo, causing Neo to flinch, before shifting back to Coco, his command clear and concise. "Follow me to my office, Hughes."
Coco nodded and gave Neo a quick glance before dutifully following the guild master towards his office, her mind racing with questions about the reason behind his summon.
Neo stood there, his worry evident on his face as he watched Coco follow the Guild Master up the stairs to his office, but he knows that the guild master isn’t the type to punish anyone unfairly so that relaxed him a little.
The other hunters in the area exchanged curious glances and whispers, clearly wondering what the guild master wanted with Coco.
Coco and the guild master stepped into the office, the door closing behind them with a soft click.
The room was as spacious and well-furnished as ever, filled with bookshelves, a few couches, and a large oak desk in the center.
The guild master took a seat behind the desk, gesturing for Coco to take a seat opposite him in one of the comfortable chairs and waited until she was seated before speaking, his expression serious as he let out a sigh.
"First of all, congratulations." He began, pride dripping in his voice. "You managed to rise to the top and achieve high ranking status as a hunter in just a month’s time."
The praise caught Coco off guard, her eyes widening.
The guild master paused for a moment, his expression growing more contemplative before continuing, "But.. It was also the very reason why I called you here today."
Coco blinked in surprise, but nodded in acknowledgment, silently encouraging him to continue.
The guild master’s gaze bore into hers, his expression serious and his voice solemn as he continued. "The Baroness, Lady Hughes, personally approached me and demanded that I remove you from the guild."
Coco’s eyes widened at his words, her heart skipping a beat.
She had expected a somewhat difficult conversation, but she had never anticipated that the Baroness herself was playing a role in this matter.
"Is.. Is this true, Mr. Covez?" Coco asked, her throat going dry.
Mr. Covez nodded.. "She informed me that she plans to pass down the title of Baroness to you, Coco.. And as a result, she demands your exile from the hunter guild."
Coco’s jaw dropped in shocked disbelief as she listened to his words, the information he was revealing was utterly unexpected and left her feeling both stunned and disoriented.
"And.. She sent me this."
